This weekend sees round 2 of the 2018 South Australian Off Road Championships, being held in the deep sand of Wanbi in the states east, via Murray Bridge if coming from the metro area. Round 2 already looks like it will be harder and faster than round 1 with the entry of recently selected Australian ISDE Team Australia member, KTM Australia’s Lyndon Snodgrass!
For this round also, juniors will race on Saturday, with seniors on Sunday, and led by the current Australian Champion & Motorcycling SA Rising Star, Jayden Rudd, the junior competition will be worth the drive to Wanbi on its own! Looking through the 4 junior classes, there is class everywhere, from Rudd in J4, who had a close win in round 1 over Rory Hill, to Charlie Milton who had a ‘comfortable’ 2 minute win over visiting Victorian, Jack Bithall in the J3 Class, while Taj Gow-Smith and Jordan Simpson went hammer & tongs in J2 to finish less than a minute apart, while Lachlan Metcalf led home the youngsters in J1 from another Victorian in Ethan Alderton.
This weekend will just as tight at the top of the leader boards, and with a total of 89 junior entries, this is so good for the future of the sport here in SA! Get around these ‘stars of the future’ and get out and support them this weekend as they tackle the sand & whoops of Wanbi!
Sunday will see the seniors take to a 27km course and with Snodgrass joining the fun in the sand, the Round 1 podium of Riley Graham (SA#1), Andy Wilksch (SA#2 and 2018 ISDE Junior Team Australia member) & Jayden Pilgrem will be all out to knock off the Team Australia rider in their ‘backyard’ and will certainly liven up the chase to be SA#1 at season’s end
As good as the PRO Class is going to be, the Expert Class could be an even better battle on the day as young guns Will Price & Cooper Sheidow resume hostilities from round 1! The good mates are only in their 1st (Cooper) and 2nd (Will) years of senior competition, and already they are a good window into the future of the sport here in SA!
In the Clubman classes, look for the brotherly battle in C1, with the younger Simpson, Mitch, leading Olly after round 1, with the former Red Bull Rookie road racer keen to not let his younger brother get the result again!
Also look to the Veterans Class, which saw a 20+ year rivalry continue at round 1 as 4 out and out Champions of the sport here in SA went at it like 20 year olds again, with Rowan Pumpa leading home Leigh Bentley, Peter Rudd & Anthony Diener!
A total of 118 seniors will front the starter early on Sunday morning, meaning a total entry of over 200 riders for an SAORC – a fantastic effort by all concerned!
CAMPING & CATERING OPTIONS; The campground opens at 11.00am on the Friday and there is no charge, but there are strict fire limits all weekend! Full catering including espresso coffee commences from Friday 6.00pm till Sunday at conclusion of racing – This includes breakfast Saturday & Sunday.
