Recreational Riding in South Australia
Motorcycling isn’t just about racing, it’s about having fun, getting outdoors, and enjoying the ride with others. Recreational riding offers a relaxed and social way to stay active, build your skills, and share great experiences with mates and family. No matter your age, ability, or bike type, there’s a recreational riding option in South Australia to suit you.
Come & Try Days are the perfect way for completer beginners to experience the excitement of motorcycling in a safe and supportive environment. Whether you’re curious about road, dirt or track riding, these events give you a no-pressure opportunity to give it a go. You don’t need a motorcycle licence to participate, and all riders receive a free Come & Try Licence which includes personal accident cover under MA’s national insurance program. After attending, you can also apply for a free 90-day Introductory Recreational Licence to continue enjoying non-competitive events.
Recreational motorcycle events and rallies are a great way to meet people, explore new areas and celebrate the joy of riding. Events range from relaxed social rides to large-scale rallies that bring riders together from all over the state. Each event has its own unique atmosphere and activities, from scenic rides to live entertainment. Licence requirements will vary depending on where the event is held, but in most cases, riders will need either a One Event or Annual Recreational Licence to ensure personal accident cover.
If you love the thrill of the ride, whether on the bitumen or in the dirt, Recreational Track Days are for you. These events are held in safe, controlled environments where riders can enjoy the excitement of motorcycling without the risks of public roads, traffic, or unpredictable conditions. Track Days may take place on road circuits, motocross tracks, or off-road venues, giving riders the chance to develop their skills and have fun on a variety of surfaces. Many clubs and promoters run these days specifically for social and recreational riders, offering both asphalt and off-road Track Days (including motocross) across South Australia. Riders are usually grouped according to bike capacity and ability to ensure everyone rides at a comfortable pace.
Most Track Days do not require a state-issued motorcycle licence, though you’ll need to purchase a One Event Recreational Licence for personal accident cover at the time of booking or on the day. If you plan to ride regularly, an Annual Recreational Licence offers excellent value and covers you for all non-competitive events throughout the year. Ride Days are an ideal way to build your confidence, refine your technique, and enjoy the social side of riding, whether you prefer the smooth lines of the track or the jumps and corners of motocross.
Ride Park Days are safe, controlled, non-competitive ride days run by MSA affiliated clubs, where families, friends and riders of all levels can enjoy motorcycling together. These days are all about fun, freedom and skill development in a relaxed, social environment, without the pressure of racing. They’re open to riders of all ages, including non-club members and those without a current motorcycle licence, making them the perfect way to experience the joy of riding in a safe setting.

South Australia offers some of the most beautiful off-road and trail riding in the country. From scenic bush trails to rugged outback tracks, there are endless opportunities to explore. Off-road riding is a fantastic way to improve your skills, stay active and enjoy the natural environment at your own pace. Many local promoters and motorcycle dealerships also organise group rides and rallies, which are a fun way to meet other riders and discover new trails. In most cases, you’ll need a Full Motorcycle Registration to ride in national parks or public areas, so always check requirements with your local authority before heading out. Riders will also need to purchase a Trail Pass via RiderNet to ensure they’re fully covered.
