2024 SAMX Championship Round 5 Results: South Coast Sets the Stage for Final Championship Battles

September 18, 2024 Filed Under: Motocross, News, State Championship

After four rounds of action-packed racing across SA, the 2024 SA Motocross Championships came to a head last weekend at South Coast Motocross Club. With most championship overalls still up for grabs accross the stacked field of senior and junior classes, the stakes were higher than ever, setting the stage for a dramatic winner-takes-all final round. So without further ado, let’s take a quick look at the provisional results from the weekend –

Full results of the weekend:

Sunday 15 September

Pro MX 1 & Pro MX 2

With PROM MX 1 & 2 combining for an epic showdown, it was Victoria’s Joel Milesevic who stole the spotlight, securing a commanding win across all three races ahead of championship leader Siegah Ward & Liam Mason in third.

Will Carpenter sealed his 2024 ProMX 2 Championship win dominantly, taking a clean points sweep to win the ProMX 2 class. Close behind was Daniel Watkins, who battled hard to secure second place, narrowly edging out Caleb Walker for the overall third spot by just two points. With the Championship second and third-place contenders Noah Ferguson & Mitch Norris missing South Coast, Walker squeezed past to narrowly take over the provisional Championship second place thanks to his weekend’s efforts.

Women All-Powers

Making her SAMX Championship debut in the final round, Victoria’s Emma Milesevic made an immediate impact. She took the lead in Heat 1 and, despite facing challenges from reigning SA Champion Amy Bartsch in Heat 2, Milesevic swept all three heats to secure the Round 5 victory. While Bartsch finished second in the round, she clinched the 2024 Women All Powers SAMX Championship, edging out Emma Haylock, who took third in Round 5. With yet another SA Championship added to her impressive resume and no signs of slowing down, it remains to be seen whether Bartsch will return in 2025 to defend her streak.

Expert All-Powers

Continuing her winning streak from the Women’s All Powers Class, Emma Milesevic brought her competitive edge to the Expert All Powers division. After a close second place in Heat 1, she dominated the final two heats to secure the Round 5 class win. The battle for second and third place was intense, with Championship leader Aaron Van Zetten ultimately taking silver despite a challenging start. After finishing fifth in Heat 1, Van Zetten recovered with third and second-place finishes in Heats 2 and 3. Jayden Hank, who clinched victory in Heat 1 but faced challenges with two sixth-place finishes in the subsequent heats, ultimately secured third place on the podium. Meanwhile, Lucas Brereton, a top contender for Round 5, saw his weekend take a turn after a crash in Heat 3, despite strong performances with third and second places in the earlier heats.

Aaron Van Zetten.

150/250cc 13-U16Yrs

Rounding out the 150/250cc 13-U16Yrs class Championship would see a battle royal unfold between Cambell Cadd, Noah Rochow & Jayke Hansen for those last Championship points. Cambell Cadd started strong with a Heat 1 victory over Noah Rochow and Jayke Hansen. However, Noah Rochow demonstrated consistent performance, securing the Round 5 win with two second-place finishes and a first. Cambell Cadd, despite his Heat 1 win, had an unfortunate mid-race mistake in Heat 2, placing him third, and finished second in the final heat. Jayke Hansen rounded out the round 5 podium thanks to his third, first, and third heat finishes.

Noah Rochow.

Clubman

Entering the Round 5 South Coast finale with a strong lead, Ian Ellis appeared poised to secure the Clubman 2024 Championship. However, as always, the unpredictability of racing meant anything could happen after the gate drop. Jayden Hank made a push for the championship points with a decisive Heat 1 win, finishing ahead of Ellis and Lashford. Despite the shifting positions and intense competition throughout the class, Ellis maintained his consistency to win Round 5 and clinch the 2024 Championship. Thomas Horn finished second in Round 5, while Archer Colwill rounded out the podium in third.

Ian Ellis.

Vets 35-44Yrs & Vets 45+

Charlie Hollis claimed top honours in the Vets 45+ class, securing the 2024 Championship with a flawless performance, winning all three heats over the weekend. Darren Averay finished second in the championship standings, while Anthony Slade, who was seventh in the overall championship, earned third place in Round 5 with a consistent 3-3-3 heat scorecard.

Despite closing the gap in the Vets 35Yrs-44Yrs Championship to just 15 points, Bradliegh Thompson was unable to surpass Warren Carrol for the Round 5 win or the overall Championship. Carrol delivered an exceptional weekend of racing, securing both the Round 5 victory and the overall top spot. Thompson finished second for both the round and the championship, while Craig Hepburn rounded out the podium in third place.

100-125cc 13-U16Yrs

Demonstrating his mastery of the track at South Coast, Kye Little had an exceptional weekend, fending off strong competition from Joshua Whitehorn to secure the Round 5 win. The battle for the top was intense, with Dylan Groball finishing second in Round 5. His performance puts him in a strong position to potentially take over the 2024 Championship lead if the standings among the top four remain unchanged.

Great Southern Security 150/250cc 12-U16Yrs Girls

With Emily Lambert missing the final round due to injury, the championship race became more competitive. Danielle Churchett seized this opportunity, putting herself in a strong position by finishing third in Heat 1 and winning Round 5 with two first-place finishes. Her impressive performance set her up to take over the championship overall once the results are finalized. Ava Sparrow narrowly missed out on the win, finishing second in the round by just one point with her 1-2-2 heat scores. Tahlia Felton secured third place for Round 5, holding off a strong challenge from Amelia Gwiazda.

Danielle Chruchett.

85/150cc S/W 12-U16Yrs

In a thrilling conclusion to the 85/150cc S/W 12-U16Yrs SAMX Championship, Dylan Gromball and Declan Smart went all out for the final round. Smart secured an early lead with a win in Heat 1, but Gromball responded with strong performances in the next two heats, ultimately winning Round 5 and the Championship overall. Xavier Freeborn showcased consistency across the weekend, finishing third in Round 5.

Dylan Gromball.

Great Southern Security 85cc 11-U16Yrs Girls

Continuing their strong performances from the Round 4 Ceduna event, Maddi Bahnisch and Lacey Thompson dominated the weekend’s heats. Bahnisch took an early lead with a win in Heat 1, but Thompson responded with a victory in Heat 2. Unfortunately, Bahnisch did not compete in the final Heat 3, allowing Thompson to secure both the final Heat win, Round 5 overall & 2024 Championship victory. Matilda Ryan’s steady third-place finishes in all heats earned her second place for Round 5, just ahead of Paige Kitchen.

Lacey Thompson.

85/150cc S/W 9-U12Yrs

Mason Ezergailis and championship leader Riley Mullen went head-to-head in a thrilling showdown, with Mason narrowly edging out Riley by just 0.912 seconds in a dramatic Heat 2 finish. Mason’s efforts secured him the round win, while Koby Binnion put in a strong performance to claim third place for the weekend. With Mullen’s second-place weekend finish, he now has locked down the 2024 class championship.

Riley Mullen.

65cc 10-12Yrs

Mason Ezergailis and Riley Mullen continued their bar-to-bar battle in the 65cc 10-U12Yrs class, with Mullen entering the weekend aiming for his second championship of 2024. Despite a similar outcome to their 85cc to 150cc class showdown, where Ezergailis dominated all heats to take the round win, Mullen had done enough throughout the season to secure the overall 65cc 10-U12Yrs Championship. Lachlan Murdoch rounded out the Round 5 podium in third place, holding strong despite Brax Chittleborough edging ahead in Heat 3.

Lachlan Murdoch.

65cc 7-9Yrs

With only 10 points separating Kobe Smart and Bailey Thompson heading into the final round, Kobe knew the pressure was on to secure the Championship, and he delivered in dominant fashion. Smart claimed victory in all three heats, locking down the overall and leaving the remaining podium spots up for grabs. Rory Walter stepped up to take second place with consistent finishes of 4-2-2, narrowly edging out Bailey Thompson, whose steady third-place efforts throughout the weekend secured him the final spot on the podium.

Kobe Smart.

50cc 7-U9Yrs

Entering the final round with an unassailable lead and the 2024 50cc Championship already secured, Oliver Thredgold set his sights on finishing the season with one more victory. However, it wouldn’t come easy, as Carter Williamson put up a strong fight. While Thredgold claimed the win in the first heat, Williamson took control of the remaining heats to secure the overall Round 5 win and elevate himself to second place in the Championship standings, ahead of Leo Williamson. Kade Chittleborough’s consistent third-place performances throughout the weekend earned him the final spot on the Round 5 podium, capping off a stacked 2024 SAMX Championship.

Sunday 28 July

Pro MX 1 & Pro MX 2

Continuing the fresh rivalries from Round 3 in Robe, Ceduna hosted a fiery showdown as the Pro MX1 premier class approached the Championship’s final leg. Siegah Ward, with a firm grip on the overall class win, maintained his dominance with a clean sweep of wins for the weekend. His Pro MX1 win is nearly secured, though the South Coast finale remains a chance for potential upsets. Shane Carpenter put up a strong fight but finished as the MX1 runner-up.

In MX2, second-placed contender Noah Fergusson missed Ceduna, allowing Wil Carpenter to extend his lead with a clean points sweep for the weekend. Zac Hoffrichter battled hard to secure second place, while Matthew Quin was in contention for third until a final heat crash ended his chances for extra points.

Women All-Powers

Defending champion Amy Bartsch is well on her way to another Women All-Powers Championship, showing strong form with a clean sweep of firsts across all heats. Championship second-place holder Emma Haylock couldn’t close the gap and settled for second with second-place finishes in all heats. Gemma Gers started strong in Heat 1 but fell to fourth after a mistake in Heat 2, with Lexy Hayes taking third.

Expert All-Powers

The 2024 Expert Championship lead is heating up, with current leader Aaron Van Zetten holding a 22-point advantage. Lucas Brerton, hot on his heels, secured the Round 4 win with a mix of first, second, and third-place finishes. He heads into Round 5 trailing Zetten by just a few points. Liam Buckley claimed second place for Round 4 with wins in Heat 2 and Heat 3, while Cody Loffer secured third with a consistent scorecard of 4, 3, and 2.

Clubman

If the pressures of leading the Clubman Championship were affecting Ian Ellis, he didn’t show it. With a clean sweep of firsts, he now holds a commanding 44-point lead. Jayden Hank secured second place with consistent performances of second in both heats and fourth in the final, finishing just 4 points ahead of Harry Guy, who had results of third, fifth, and second.

Vets 35-44Yrs & Vets 45+

In the Vets 35-44 years class, David Murphy claimed top honours after a competitive weekend. Nigel Walsh secured the runner-up spot with consistent performances in Heat 1 and Heat 3, and a strong challenge in Heat 2.

For the Vets 45+ class, Championship leader Charlie Hollis continued his dominant run, despite Darren Averay closing in with a strong opening heat. Hollis finished with a 2, 2, 3 scorecard, while Averay settled for second and Heath Boundy rounded out the top three.

Saturday 27 July

100-125cc 13-U16Yrs

Heading into the final round of the Championship, Joshua Whitehorn emerged as the new front-runner in the 100-125cc 13-U16Yrs class. After an exceptional weekend, he secured both the round win and the Championship lead, ahead of Dylan Gromball. Jayke Hansen took the round runner-up with two third-place finishes and a second, narrowly edging out Gromball by just 2 points.

Great Southern Security 150/250cc 12-U16Yrs Girls

Emily Lambert solidified her Championship lead with a perfect weekend, taking first place in all heats. Danielle Churchett claimed second place for both the round and the Championship with consistent second-place finishes. Maddi Bahnisch narrowly edged out Ava Sparrow for third by just 2 points, setting the stage for an exciting Round 5.

85/150cc S/W 12-U16Yrs

Round 4 featured a fierce competition between Dylan Gromball and Declan Smart. Each heat came down to a final lap sprint, with Gromball managing to hold his own for the round win and continuing his dominance in the 2024 Championship. Xavier Freeborn took third place, closing the gap to just 15 points behind for Championship third.

Great Southern Security 85cc 11-U16Yrs Girls

Lacey Thompson and Maddi Bahnisch kept the crowds guessing in a close contest. Bahnisch took an early lead with wins in the first two heats, but Thompson responded with a Heat 3 victory. Despite this, Bahnisch took control of the Championship lead ahead of the final round. Matilda Ryan secured third place for the round and continues to hold bronze overall.

85/150cc S/W 9-U12Yrs

The 85/150cc S/W 9-U12Yrs class kept spectators entertained with tight racing. Ollie Paech claimed the round win by just 2 points with a scorecard of 2, 2, 1, ahead of Bodhi Austin and current Championship leader Riley Mullen. Riley narrowly holds onto the Championship lead by 6 points over Ollie.

65cc 10-12Yrs

Riley Mullen continued his stellar Championship run with another gold star weekend, taking the 65cc 10-12Yrs class win despite tough competition from Bodhi Austin and Lachlan Murdoch. Lachlan secured the round silver with a third, second, and second-place finish, edging out Championship second-place contender Bodhi Austin by just 2 points.

65cc 7-9Yrs

Kobe Smart and Bailey Thompson engaged in a fierce battle for heat points. Kobe took the early lead with a win in Heat 1, but Bailey claimed first in Heat 2. Ollie Brombal rounded out the podium in third, facing strong competition from fourth-place finisher Olli Morgan.

50cc 7-U9Yrs

With Championship leader Carter Williamson not competing in Round 4, Oliver Thredgold seized the opportunity to take the lead. Thredgold won the first two heats and faced a tight battle with Leo Williamson in the final race, ultimately securing the round win and taking the lead into Round 5.

Charging up for the grand finale of the 2024 SA Motocross Championship, preparations are underway for a standout showdown at South Coast Motocross Club on September 14th and 15th, 2024. Entries will open soon through Ridernet, so be sure to secure your place for the final round of the Championship.

ProMX Round 6 Recap: SA Riders Push for Points in Toowoomba

July 23, 2024 Filed Under: Motocross, News

As we turn the corner into the final sprint of the 2024 ProMX Championship, our South Australian team made the journey to Toowoomba, QLD, for all the action-packed excitement of Round 6 last weekend. With the Championship points tables tightening up and every race becoming crucial for those coveted final spots, our SA team put it all on the line to hold their own in these final championship challenges. Let’s take a quick look at just some of the stories from the weekend.

As Brett Metcalfe edges ever closer to his final ProMX race before retirement at the end of the year, he entered this round in good form, well within the championship fight for the top 5, trailing by just 9 points. Metcalfe pushed hard to secure a strong qualifying position, finishing 11th in the premier Thor MX1 competition class, narrowly missing a top 10 spot by just 0.137 seconds behind Queensland’s Luke Zielinski. Determined to pick up as many valuable championship points as possible, he worked his way up from 12th on the opening lap to secure 9th place in the weekend’s Race 1 opener. Keeping the momentum going, Metcalfe staged an early charge in Race 2 but eventually relinquished some positions. In a final down-to-the-line battle, he claimed another 9th-place finish, this time ahead of Queensland’s Levi Rogers.

Edging his way ever so closer to the pointy end of the Pirelli MX2 Championship, Alex Larwood could taste that top 5 coming into the round, trailing by just 7 points. He started his Toowoomba outing with a 10th-place qualifying in the exceptionally tight competition, trailing ninth place by 0.277 seconds and just under 3.5 seconds off first. Race 1 saw an early setback, reducing Larwood by 3 positions in the first lap, but looking calm and collected, he turned it around to climb back up 6 places, rounding out lap 2. Coming down to the line, he had a final showdown with Kayden Minear to finish 6th, tantalizingly closer to those top 5 points. With a much better Race 2 start, Larwood got to work early, claiming position after position until finally rounding out his Race 2 endeavours, just missing that elusive podium in fourth behind Queensland’s Jayce Cosford. Larwood now trails the championship top 5 by just 6 points.

Returning to all the action in the Elilift MX Women’s class, Emily Lambert had her sights firmly set on closing that 1-point gap to break into the championship top 10. From qualifying, she looked well on her way, taking tenth place behind WA’s Leah Rimbas by just over 2 seconds in the class opener. Race 1 saw hopes of a top-5 finish with an early charge through the pack, but after relentless position challenges, she relinquished the lead and took 8th to round out Heat 1. Lambert pushed hard from the opening of Heat 2 with hopes of holding onto 6th place until a mistake on lap 5 saw her fall back to 11th. Despite making a recovery dash up to 9th late in the race, the competition from New Zealand’s Karaitiana Horne and Western Australia’s Tahlia O’Hare saw her finish her Heat 2 endeavours in 11th, ahead of fellow South Aussie Amy Bartsch. Lambert, now 10th in the championship, sits 1 point behind Madison Healey and Bella Burke, who are tied on 62 points.
