RESULTS – 2023 SA MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIPS ROUND 4

September 12, 2023 Filed Under: Motocross, News, SAMX Championship

Last weekend saw the exciting fourth and final round of the 2023 SA Motocross Championships run and won with the Motocross Riders Association. Feeling a bit of déjà vu from the round 1 battles, riders returned to Gillman from all corners of SA to claim the last crucial points and cement placings on the 2023 Championship table.

We will share a write-up on the event soon, but for the moment below are the overall weekend points results. Full race results can be found on Speedhive and of course, the 2023 Championship points leader board can be found – HERE.

RESULTS – 2023 SA MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIPS ROUND 3 AT SOUTH COAST MCC

August 11, 2023 Filed Under: Motocross, News, SAMX Championship

Last weekend’s 5th and 6th of August saw Round 3 of the 2023 SA Motocross Championships put on a show at the South Coast MXC. Throughout a full 2 days of tight racing, riders put it all on the line, with the points tables heating up and a thrilling 2023 SAMX Championship finale just around the corner, we couldn’t be more excited. Well done to South Coast MXC for their hard work in putting on a great round 3, all the volunteers behind the scenes on and off the track off the track and of course all the riders that gave it their all through a full weekend of fantastic racing.

Thanks again to our series sponsors, Butler’s Mechanical Service and Great Southern Security that have come on board again for the 2023 SAMX Championship series.

A full breakdown of results and timing can be found for Saturday – HERE and Sunday – HERE.

2023 SA MX Championship Round 3 Makes A Return To South Coast MX

August 2, 2023 Filed Under: Motocross, News, SAMX Championship

The 2023 SA Motocross Championship points tables are heating up and the finish line is nearly in site for another year. Round 3 of the 2023 SA MX Championships making a return to South Coast MX Club, this coming 5th and 6th of August. After last holding the Championships back in 2020, the club is gearing up for a fantastic weekend ahead and not one to be missed with 2 full days of racing to entertain the whole family.

A special thanks to our series sponsors, Butler’s Mechanical Service and Great Southern Security who have come on board again for the 2023 SAMX Championship journey.

Entry List:

Returning for Pro MX 1 after a flying round 2 first-place overall, Brett Metcalfe lines up against the strong competition including both Siegah Ward and Levi McManus, who are both looking for any opportunity to get past the big #24.

A field of 10 MX2 riders have locked in their names to take on the South Coast Motocross circuit and as we know in racing, it could be anyone’s weekend. After a challenging start to the season in round 1 and securing a round 2 win in MX2, Mitchell Norris is gearing up to lock away as many Championship points as possible before the season comes down to the line.

With the positive continued growth of Females making their mark in the sport of Motocross in SA, 30 of the states best senior and junior talents will take to the track this weekend. For the Butlers Women all Powers class, if round 2 is anything to go by, round 3’s racing is going to come down to the line. Last time out Amy Bartsch took the overall top sport and is back this weekend with sights set for a back to back win. She of course, can’t relax for a second with a strong field of competition chasing her every move including Emma Haylock and Stephanie Cutler.

After a huge trip up to the NT for the 2023 Australian Motocross Championships, Bodhi Austin is ready to extend his 65cc 2stroke 7-u10yrs championship lead for his SAMX 2023 season, after P1 finishes in both Rounds 1 and 2. With a field of over 20 competitors looking to stop his winning streak, can he make it 3 out of 3 for 2023?

This weekends Junior Motocross field will be the perfect example of the exceptional talent levels coming out of our SA clubs. Over 140 of our fastest youngsters are set to take to the track across the weekends junior classes, not to mention the youngest of our sport, 29 budding 50cc riders will be out throughout the demo and auto classes.

With Championship battles heating up and points leads disappearing, you’re not going to want to miss a second of the action this weekend!!

SA TAKES ON THE TOP END AND AUSTRALIAS BEST AT THE 2023 AUSTRALIAN JUNIOR MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIPS

July 25, 2023 Filed Under: Motocross, News

20 of our top South Australian Motocross Juniors made the long trip up to the NT to face off against Australia’s best at the 2023 Australian Junior MX Championships at the Acacia Hills Motocross Complex and boy did we represent and hold our own. With riders getting the feel of the track in challenging conditions they seemed to be dropping personal best times and creating new goals every lap. It was certainly a great look into the exceptional potential on the track for the week ahead.

Throughout the week we saw our Juniors stand tall taking against some pretty stiff competition against in of Australia’s fastest Junior Mx riders and coming out the other side with great results.

Shout out and congratulations to the 8 SA riders that qualified to represent SA in the State Trophy Challenge Cup from their qualifying times in their own classes (as specified by the MoMS 8.21.4)

  1. Emily Lambert
  2. Riley Mullen
  3. Ollie Paech
  4. Ryder Woodrow
  5. Danielle Churchett
  6. Tomi Doble
  7. Declan Smart
  8. Nash Metcalfe

Through their  fantastic racing efforts, team SA finished 6th in the State ranking – Great work everyone!!

Below are the overall points for each class, but first and we caught up with a couple of our juniors that qualified to represent SA in the State Trophy Challenge to get a view into their experience at the 2023 Australian Junior Motocross Championships.

Declan Smart

Age: 12

First started racing: Demo class when I was 6 years old.

Have you always wanted to race the Junior Motocross National Championships?

It’s always been a dream and goal on my list to take on this event.

How did you prepare coming into the event?

I have raced and won all the rounds of the Victorian State Titles for A grade 85cc SW along with winning the overall in Championships helped my riding coming into the event. Along with the Vic rounds, racing Hattah, Deep well and a few club rounds in SA has all helped.

What was a highlight of you time in the NT?

Would have to say qualifying 3rd in the first qualifying race out of all the 85cc SW and then getting a 2,4,2 in the heat races and qualifying 5th overall before the finals started were standout moments.

I’m incredibly stoked to get my name in the Motorcycling Australia write up.

Unfortunately the heat race points don’t carry over for the riders that have to qualify Declan had a couple of little offs in the final’s giving him 10th overall after the finals were finished.

Unfortunately the heat race points didn’t carry over for the riders that have to qualify and I had a couple of little offs in the final’s putting me in 10th overall after the finals were finished.

Biggest challenge faced at the Australian Junior Motocross Championships?

The biggest challenge would definitely have to be avoiding all the rocks on the track.

Is there anyone you would like to thank?

I would love to give a massive thank you to James Wintle from Fox Australia for his support at the track along with taking some awesome pictures!

Peter Steven’s Motorcycle’s, Fox, Moto Cred, Smart Earthworks, 2D1, Dirt Bike Service’s, Emar Seats, Clare Rodeo, Clare Motorcycle Club, Choice Suspension, Panta Race Fuels, Three3sMerch and The Australian Sports Commission for selecting me as a recipient of a local sporting Champions Grant.

Ryder Woodrow

Age:

13 years old

First started racing:

I got my first motorbike at 18 months old and learnt to ride with training wheels, I started competitive racing at 5 and had to travel to Victoria to be able to compete till I turned 7 and was eligible to race in SA.

Have you always wanted to race the Junior Motocross National Championships?

Since turning 7 I have entered every Nationals competition as it’s a great benchmark to compare where you’re at against riders across the whole of Australia, as well as riding a national prepped track.

How did you prepare coming into the event?

At the start of each year we set out our goals for the year, a training plan for on and off the bike aswell as a calendar full of races across Australia to attempt to compete against some of the competitors.  I have a motocross track at home, so I ensure I ride a few nights a week, as well as over the weekend. I run 5km every morning as well as push bike ride 10km on alternate days. We do benchmark testing to see improvements in lap times on the bike, as well as fitness benchmarks to ensure my off bike fitness consistently improves (i.e how long per KM) . I also fuel my body with Ryno power (protein and sports drinks) to ensure I get the right nutrients to help with these goals.

What was a highlight of your time during the event up in the Northern Territory?

Would have to say, 3rd fastest in practice, a 2nd position in a heat. Unfortunately in Final 1, I was caught up in a first corner crash which put me at the back of the pack of 40 riders. With the challenge of no sight lap on the track, I am stoked I still charged my way from 40th up to 10th position and although that was the worst result I achieved in my finals,  it was my best ride and my most proud moment to get up to 10th position and pass 30 top Australian riders.  I had Brett Metcalfe congratulate me on that ride, and to have such feedback come from someone of his level meant so much to me.

What was the biggest challenge you faced at the Aus Junior National Champs?

Heat 1 seen me lose my clutch , so after an amazing NT family leant me the part I was back in action however Suspension was set to a predicted to a flat one lined track, so after a crash where my suspension bucked me in a heat, I had to do a full suspension change and took my bike out to practice one morning before racing started to change the settings. It was completely different to what we expected and was one of the roughest tracks I’ve faced with ruts so big you could lay down in them. Once my suspension was fixed my confidence on the track was much better and helped me feel more comfortable on the bike

Is there anyone you would like to thank?

Ninness MX for the clutch parts , wouldn’t have been on the line without you, Chappy for the NT hospitality , Shaun Murdoch from the SA crew for getting behind every SA Rider and creating the SAMX nationals page to help promote the kids, Brett Metcalfe for the support and encouragement throughout the week and picking me to represent SA in the SA state team,  Dad and Mum for getting me there, Moto Adelaide and KTM for the weapon of a bike, Pirelli for the tyres, Ryno Power for the body Fuel, Monza Imports, Oakley and Alpine stars for the best gear, Dom for sponsoring our fuel to get us there, Nanna and Poppa for contributing towards the trip , jacka bricklaying for his 2nd year of sponsorship and Wayne Pengilly from WP concrete for believing in me this year and giving me the opportunity to ride for him and the opportunity to learn from him to build as a rider

Nash Metcalfe

Age:

I’m 10 nearly turning 11 years old.

First started racing:

I’ve been racing for about 4 years now.

Have you always wanted to race the Junior Motocross National Championships?

Yea I have been pretty interested in this event and the experience.

How did you prepare coming into the event?

I practiced before the race at home and I’ve raced 2 state title rounds this year.

What was a highlight of your time during the event up in the Northern Territory?

Getting my best finish 11th and spending time visiting Darwin.

What was the biggest challenge you faced at the Aus Junior National Champs?

Not getting a holeshot and fighting through the pack was my biggest challenge.

Is there anyone you would like to thank?

My dad for all the help telling me lines to take and how ruff it is in that section’s.

I would also like to thank Shane Lambert and Brad Thompson for bringing up my bikes and all my gear and parts for the Aus Junior National Champs. Thanks to my friends, team, dad my brother Mav and Marny for all their help

I also would like to thank my nanna for booking hotels for us to stay at and giving us good places to visit while we were up there. I would also like to thank GO24 Penrite team, 3D siteworx, Cisco’s race tuning, Nanna and Pops, Rat Racing / Fist, MXstore, SKDA, whitehaul, Michelin

RESULTS – 2023 SAMX CHAMPIONSHIPS ROUND 2 – GATES DROP AT RIVERLAND JUNIOR MOTORCYCLE CLUB

May 26, 2023 Filed Under: Motocross, News, SAMX Championship

Conditions were prime and riders rearing to go, with the Riverland Junior Motorcycle Club rolling out the red carpet last weekend of the 20th and 21st May for Round 2 of the 2023 SAMX Championships. Spectators and fans all weekend long were kept on the edge of their seats with tight bar-to-bar racing taking centre stage. Round 2 brought a spectacular  lineup of 247 riders entered, with a massive 303 bikes competing over the two days. That’s right 56 riders couldn’t get enough and hit the track in multiple classes. With weather and track conditions as good as they were…who can blame them!!

After his round 1, third-place Pro-MX1 finish, Brett Metcalf took control and made the weekend a clean sweep of firsts ahead of Siegah Ward and Levi McManus. – Well done champ!!

Mitchell Norris fought hard all weekend in MX 2 to take a well deserved top step finish within extremely fast competition. Giving the girls a run for their money in sheer speed and style, Amy Bartsch pulled together a consistent weekend in taking a clean sweep of firsts in the Women’s All Powers class with Emma Haylock and Stephanie Cutler battling it out for the second and third.

Eric McConnochie caught all the action over the weekend. See all the photos – HERE
