Results – 2024 Anzac Meeting Drops The Season Curtain On Sidewinders U16 Speedway Club Series

April 24, 2024 Filed Under: News, Speedway

After a full season of racing, the final event of the year at Sidewinders U16 Speedway Club took place last Saturday night for their 2024 Anzac Meeting. Adding to the excitement, the night also featured the rescheduled Presidents Cup, originally planned for the night before. This resulted in the winner of the main feature race taking out the 2024 Anzac Day honours, and the Presidents Cup being presented to a person or rider chosen by the president.

With a great field of riders, including plenty of familiar young talents, junior speedway fans were in for a treat with plenty of returning faces keen to give it one last crack for the season. Adding to the excitement of the competition classes, we saw a great lineup of novice riders, featuring non-competitive classes such as 50cc Auto and the 50cc demo class.

From the get-go, Victoria’s Blake Schlein got off to an early start with sights firmly set on the Anzac meeting honours, however returning regular Ryleigh McGregor would prove to be tough to beat as both took domineering positions across the night heats. With absolute class, Ryleigh McGregor rode an exceptional final to take out the 2024 Anzac Day meeting in front of Riley Stout in second and Hayden Kuchel in third. Unfortunately, it would be a challenging final for Blake Schlein, who received an exclusion for touching the tape.

After an exceptional night of competitive riding and to round out the season, congratulations to Connor Machin for being awarded the Presidents Cup for 2024.

President of the Sidewinders U16 Speedway Club, Adam Possingham said “I would like to send a massive thank you to the amazing volunteers for all their hard work behind the scenes in making this season such a success. This year has continued to be a deeply rewarding experience seeing our junior riders excel both locally and even internationally. I am really excited and looking forward to what’s in store for next season and hope everyone has a great relaxing off-season”.

There’s certainly nothing quite like a night at Sidewinders U16 Speedway Club, and with a well-earned offseason ahead for volunteers to recharge, we’re counting down the days until we see the track light up again with junior speedway talents.

2023 MOTORCYCLING SA ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING – A NEW ERA BEGINS!

April 17, 2024 Filed Under: News

The 2023 Motorcycling SA Annual General Meeting was held on Tuesday, April 9th 2024 at MSA Hall on The Parade at Beulah Park, with 20 attendees representing 12 of our affiliated clubs, along with another 10 online through Teams representing 8 affiliates, along with 5 MSA Board Members.

After the required Reports were tabled, President, MSA Office, Sports Managers and Financial, the 2 incoming MSA Board members were ‘elected’ for the next 2 years, with Brenton Matters and Sofie Kraft being the only applicants. This meant a vote wasn’t needed and both were welcomed by all present.

Sofie responded in that, while she feels she has a lot to learn, she has thoroughly enjoyed her 18 months as an appointed Board Member, and she now looks forward to working to make the sport even better, while enlarging her knowledge base as an elected Board Member.

Brenton then thanked all present, before making it clear that he will not be re-standing to be the MSA President, so ending his tenure in the ‘top job’ at 12 years (see below) and stated in his report that: “I want to thank you all for the support I have had from across the sport in the past 12 years. I want to thank the MSA Board Members past and present for their support and contribution to the sport. I was going to step down from the Board completely but there is still unfinished work to do, so I am staying on the Board to support Rocky Warren as the new MSA President predominantly on National matters.”

Although not to be confirmed until the May MSA Board Meeting, Paul ‘Rocky’ Warren has been anointed as the incoming MSA President, and he will become just the 10th person to hold the position of President, since the MCC of SA became what is now MSA in 1952.

All present welcomed Rocky to the position, and he stated that while Brenton was remaining as his Vice President (incoming) for the next 2 years to concentrate on the National issues, Rocky himself, will be focussed more on what happens inside SA’s borders and continuing the resurgence in participation numbers post COVID-19, and that he looks forward to working with all of MSA’s affiliates over the next 2 years.

This means the make up of the MSA Board for the coming year will:

  • Rocky Warren President 2023-24
  • Brenton Matters Vice President 2024-25
  • Carole Fear elected 2023-24
  • Sofie Kraft elected 2024-25
  • David Parker appointed
  • Mike Hampton appointed

Both Rocky and Brenton did state, most emphatically, that new people are always welcome to apply to sit on the MSA Board, with the current Board having now implemented a 3 term limit (6 years) of holding a Board position, to ensure a continuing roll over of new people and ideas coming into the sport.

To this end, the Motorcycling SA Office will open nominations for the MSA Board’s 2 elected positions on September 3 2024, with the timeline to be as follows:

  • MSA Board nominations OPEN                       Tuesday, September 3rd 2024
  • MSA Board nominations CLOSE                     Tuesday, December 3rd 2024
  • MSA nominations Ballot sent to Clubs           Tuesday, January 7th 2025
  • Ballot closes                                                        Tuesday, March 4th 2025
  • Any new Board members announced             Tuesday, April 8th 2025 – 2024 MSA AGM

The 2 positions that will be up for re-election are currently being held by Rocky Warren and Carole Fear.

The floor was opened for questions and after a few relating to the MSA Annual Report, the meeting was closed at 7.47pm.

The normal ‘bar talk’ then flowed amongst all present, with the doors of MSA Hall finally being closed at just after 9.00pm, with MSA and the MSA Board thanking all the Clubs that took the time to attend, including:

  • 24 Hour Trial Committee (Teams)
  • Adelaide Hills MCC
  • AJS Moto Trial Club of SA
  • Atujara MCC
  • Café Racer Club of SA
  • Gawler MCC
  • Historic MCRR of SA

Results – SAMX Championships Round 1 Points Dashes at Motocross Riders Association

April 17, 2024 Filed Under: Motocross, News, SAMX Championship

Last weekend, the South Australian Motocross Championships made a thrilling return to the Motocross Riders Association in Gillman for Round 1. The action-packed event kept fans on the edge of their seats with an impressive lineup of racers. Additionally, Round 1 welcomed Three 3s Apparel and Merch as a major sponsor for the 2024 Championship, alongside the return of Great Southern Security as a sponsor for the 2024 Championship. With a fantastic 231 riders and 280 bikes taking to the track over the 2 packed days of racing, fans young and old soaked up the sheer talent available for Motocross in South Australia.

Before we get into the 2024 SA Motocross Championship Round 1 top ten point results below, let’s take a look at some of the weekend highlights:

Jet lag certainly didn’t slow down Honda Racing’s Todd Wilson, as he went on to win the hotly contested Pro MX 1 class after a tight Race 1 battle with teammate Kyle Webster. Although Webster gained the upper hand in the heat, Wilson secured victories in Races 2 and 3 to claim the overall top spot. Current championship 4th place holder, Siegeh Ward, will be looking to seize every opportunity to take over the overall championship lead in the upcoming rounds.

Honda Racing’s Charli Cannon took control of the Women’s All Powers class, winning all three races with ease. An early championship battle is forming between ‘holeshot’ Haylock and reigning champion Amy Bartsch. In the end, Haylock took the runner-up championship spot for the weekend with second-place finishes in Races 2 and 3.

The fiercely contested 100-125cc 2-stroke class for ages 13-16 was won by Jayke Hansen, who secured victories in Races 2 and 3. Dylan Gromball followed closely in second place, while Noah James took third. Despite missing out on the 2023 championship and never securing the top spot on the podium until now, it appears the class battles are just heating up. Only time will tell if 2024 will be Hansen’s year.

Making an exciting return for 2024, Great Southern Security is back to support the Junior Girls Championship classes. In the Great Southern Security 100cc to 150cc 2-stroke and 200cc to 250cc 4-stroke Girls class, Emily Lambert swept the weekend, finishing ahead of 2023 runner-up Danielle Churchett and last year’s champion Charlize Waldhuter.

In the Great Southern Security 85cc 2-stroke and 150cc 4-stroke (All Wheels) Girls class, Lacey Thompson secured the top spot, finishing just 5 points ahead of Maddy Bahnisch. Despite Maddy’s late charge and Race 3 win, she placed second overall, while Matilda Ryan of Morgan Motorcycle Club took third place.

Offering a glimpse into the next generation of South Australian Motocross stars, South Coast MX Club’s Oliver Thredgold gained a small but crucial advantage over MRA’s Carter Williamson by just 3 points, with Hilton Motorcycle Club’s Hudson Hitch in third.

Preview – 2024 SA Motocross Championships Round 1 Gate Drops At MRA

April 11, 2024 Filed Under: Motocross, News, SAMX Championship

This weekend marks the highly anticipated return of classic favorites and the debut of thrilling newcomers as we launch into the 2024 South Australian Motocross Championship. We are excited to welcome Three 3s Apparel and Merch as a major sponsor for 2024. Be sure to stop by and check out their stand next weekend, and say hello to the team. We are also thrilled to welcome back longtime supporter Great Southern Security, which will continue its partnership with us for another year. Speaking of returning legends, the Motocross Riders Association will kickstart the 2024 Championships, promising an electrifying start to what is set to be an exhilarating weekend ahead.

With the deadline for late entries now passed, excitement is in the air as we prepare for this weekend’s introduction to the 2024 SAMX Championships. A remarkable count of over 231 riders and 280 bikes are poised to hit the track, with all eyes on who will take the holeshot and claim an early Championship lead.

As the countdown to the first gate drop begins, let’s shine a spotlight on some of the key talents set to tear up the MRA track this weekend:

Reigning 2024 King of the Gulf Champion and ProMX talent, Siegah Ward returns to challenge the likes of Penrite Go 24’s Brett Metcalfe and the Honda Australia Factory team duo of Wilson Todd and Kyle Webster.

Round 1 will witness a fierce MX 2 competition, with 22 racers hailing from NSW, Vic, QLD, and SA vying for victory. Mitch Norris, the reigning MX 2 Champion, aims for a third title in 2024, facing a stacked field of stiff competition, including the emerging talents of class newcomer Wil Carpenter. Wil has aged up in 2024 to seniors and is taking on the MX 2 class after claiming the 2023 Junior Lites Championship.

The MX All Powers Women’s class makes a triumphant return, led by perennial champion Amy Bartsch. However, Bartsch faces the hard-charging challenges of a determined Emma Haylock and the formidable Charli Cannon, both eager to dethrone her Championship reign.

Showing that age is just a number, seasoned veterans are making a comeback with former champions Bradleigh Thompson (35-44) and Darren Averay (45+) once again taking their place on the grid for another exhilarating season.

Additionally, the lineup includes 24 Experts and 25 Clubmen, adding to the excitement of the weekend’s senior program. With the Championships of these two classes having been decided in nail-biting fashion in 2023, anticipation is high for what promises to be another nail-biting year of racing action. Make sure you don’t miss a moment of the new 2024 Championship chapter.

The future of the sport shines with promise as nearly 130 riders gear up to show off their skills, including the returning 2023 Championship talents of Bodhi Austin, Charlize Waldhuter, Kye Little, Riley Mullen, and Kobe Smart, ready to leave their mark once again. Joining them are a stack of fresh faces, eager to take their own race wins at MRA.

In addition, the 50cc demo non-competitive class will hit the track, providing our young racers with a taste of the state Championship atmosphere. This experience will help them hone their skills and lay the foundation for their journey in the sport.

For SAMX fans eager to witness the Championship opener firsthand, head down to MRA Gillman this weekend. The action kicks off both days at 8 am, and be sure to stay updated on all the Championship action through the SA Motocross Facebook page and the Motocross Riders Association Facebook page. Results -SA Continue Their Pro MX Charge at Horsham’s Round 2

April 8, 2024 Filed Under: Motocross, News

What a weekend of action for our SA riders at round 2 of the 2024 Pro MX in Horsham, Vic. With plenty of consistent overalls, top-10 results, and even podiums in the mix, we’re certainly proud of our lot for a great weekend away. Let’s break down how Round 2 turned out for SA in Horsham.

Thor MX 1

Mr. #24 Brett Metcalf went from a 9th qualifying session to demonstrating consistency in the strong competition across round 2, securing a 9th qualifying, 8th in the AMX Superstores MX 1 Superpole and two 7th place race finishes in his races. Meanwhile, Siegah Ward fought into a top 20 qualifying position with a 19th place, subsequently excelling in race times with a 17th place finish in race 1 and a 15th place finish in race 2 for the weekend.

Elijah Wiese faced a tough challenge in the 32nd qualifying position, but he quickly immersed himself in the pack battles, ultimately securing two 28th-place finishes during his round 2 campaign.

Pirelli MX 2

Pirelli MX 2 saw Mitch Norris looking to be on his way to a great opening finish before a flat tyre took him out of the 14th-place contention. He would come back in race 2 to take out the 14th place and make up those crucial Championship points. Showing the same grit and determination, Wade Thompson went from strength to strength from a qualifying 30th to then taking 26th in race 1 and 21st in race 2.

Riley Pitman fired back after a 25th place race 1 finish to avoid the race 2 carnage and take out the 26th place race 2 finish, 5.904 seconds behind Victoria’s Seth Jackson in 25th.

Maxxis MX 3

Will Carpenter showcased his strength in the second Maxxis MX3 qualifier, securing a commendable 6th place finish, trailing just .012 seconds behind the coveted top 5. Although starting his round 2 MX3 campaign in 25th place, Carpenter displayed resilience, progressively climbing to the 21st spot in race 2.

You could throw a blanket over the SA crew knocking on the top 20 qualifying door with Harry Gilbertson finishing 22nd, Kye Little 23rd, Noah Rochow 25th, and Jayke Hansen 26th, all looking to crack the top 20 in round 3. Notably, they delivered an electrifying performance in the non-qualifiers race, with Noah clinching the race win, Kye Little securing 4th place, and Jayke Hansen finishing 9th.

Unfortunantly, Logan Scott faced a challenging weekend, starting with a 30th place finish in MX3 first qualifying and ultimately retiring from the non-qualifying race.

FOX RACING MX 85

Dylan Gromball and Declan Smart engaged in a close battle during the opening Fox Racing MX 85 race 1, finishing 16th and 17th, respectively. As the competition intensified in race 2, Dylan made a remarkable surge through the ranks to secure 11th place, closely trailing Queensland’s Connor Feather. Meanwhile, Declan showed improvement in race 2, clinching a 15th-place finish and narrowly missing out on 14th by just 2.478 seconds.

Jayden Minerds demonstrated progress from his initial 32nd place finish in race 1, concluding the weekend in 29th and setting his sights on a stronger performance in round 3. Unfortunately, Travis Sparrow, despite qualifying 34th, faced retirement in both races, hoping for a better outcome in the next Pro MX event.

Dylan Gromball #350

Check out all the times from the weekend through Computime as our SA team looks forward to the 2024 Pro MX returning to SA on May 5th at the Motocross Rider Association, Gillman for round 3. The anticipation and tension are already building for what our crew can do on home soil.
