Riders and motocross fans returned to the Riverland Junior Motorcycle Club last weekend for Round 2 of the SA Motocross Championships. Anticipation was high as early points leads started to form, with ever-changing front runners emerging. The Riverland stage was set for a huge throwdown. The hard work of the Riverland Junior Motorcycle Club’s volunteers was evident throughout the weekend, providing a great stage for all the championship battles to continue. We must extend our gratitude to Three 3s Apparel and Merch and Great Southern Security for their invaluable support in the 2024 SAMX Championships. Now, before diving into the weekend heat results, let’s take a quick look at the class podiums.

Sunday 19 May

MX 1

With Round 1’s top three overall racers absent, 2024’s King of the Gulf winner and ProMX star Siegah Ward took control, winning the first two heats. Mitch Norris challenged early in the final heat, putting Siegah in second, but Siegah clinched the overall victory and took the championship lead. As Matt Clark and Seth Carpenter jousted back and forth across all three heats, they both ended up with 50 points, with Matt being awarded 3rd for the round after his 3rd place finish ahead of Seth in the final heat.

MX 2

Mitch Norris faced challenges in MX 2, with a heat 1 DNF. He made a strong comeback with a second place in heat 2 but dropped to 7th in heat 3. Noah Fergusson dominated with a clean sweep, maintaining his Championship lead from a flawless Round 1. Will Carpenter secured second place, followed by Wade Thompson in third.

Women All-Powers

Charli Cannon, the Round 1 overall winner, did not compete, leaving 2023 Champion Amy Bartsch to fend off Emma “Holeshot” Haylock. Bartsch won heat 1, but Haylock took heat 2. Bartsch reclaimed control with a heat 3 win, securing the overall victory. Jessica Bennett, aiming to improve her standings, finished third in heat 1 but a DNF in heat 2 ended her weekend, with Lexy Hayes taking over third place in heats 2 and 3.

Expert All Powers

Aaron Van Zetten, Round 1 winner, started strong with a third and first place finish in the first two heats. A chaotic heat 3 saw him drop to ninth, but he still secured third overall. Cody Loffler’s consistent performance earned him the top podium spot, with Travis Wells closely trailing by just one point.

150/250cc 13-U16Yrs

Noah Rochow moved to the Championship lead with a clean sweep of wins. Cambell Cadd and Kyle Little had a fierce battle, with Cambell taking second place for the weekend after winning the final heat.

Ian Ellis displayed exceptional skill, with finishes of 2nd, 1st, and 2nd, securing first place for the round. Jayden Hank, despite winning the first heat, had to settle for the round second after finishing 4th and 5th in the remaining heats. Jordan Gabbitas rounded out the podium, edging out Cody Harrison by just one point.

Vets 35-44Yrs & Vets 45+

In the Vets 35-44 Years class, Warren Carroll achieved a clean sweep of wins, followed by Bradleigh Thompson in second and Craig Hepburn in third. In the Vets 45+ class, Charlie Hollis consistently won all heats, with Darren Avaeray in second and Anthony Slade rounding out the podium.

Preview – 2024 SAMX Championship Round 2 – Rivalries Set To Light Up At Riverland Junior Motorcycle Club

May 16, 2024 Filed Under: Motocross, News, SAMX Championship, State Championship

After an edge-of-the-seat Championship opener, this weekend sees the SA Motocross Championship heat up with on-track rivalries at Riverland Junior Motorcycle Club for round 2.

As the late entries deadline has just closed and the final countdown for gate drop is well underway, Round 2 promises to be an absolute treat for SA motocross fans. With 215 riders and a huge 260 bikes across the classes at Renmark, we are sure to see some new Championship front-runners.

Shoutout and thanks to our series sponsors, Three 3s Apparel and Merch, and Great Southern Security, as they continue their support of the South Australian Motocross Championship journey.

Entry List:

With the top 3 Championship points leaders in Pro MX1 not lining up this weekend, 2024’s King of the Gulf and current 4th-place holder, Siegah Ward, is looking to make his move and solidify his name as a frontrunner in the Championship. He will, of course, be joined by SAMX regulars Mitch Norris, Levi McManus, and the Carpenter Brothers, Seth and Mitch, all looking to secure those crucial Championship points.

Continuing their round 1 showdown, 2023’s MX Women’s Champion Amy Bartsch is still in the Championship fight, trailing by just 2 points behind current second-place Emma Haylock. The front-runner, Charli, misses this round. Can she close that gap even further, or will we see a new senior women’s champion crowned?

Not to mention a stacked field of Experts and Clubmen featuring the current Expert Championship leader Aaron Van Zetton and Clubman Cody Harrison, both eager to continue their points lead. With over 20 riders in each field, this weekend will keep them on their toes with plenty of challengers emerging.

This weekend is all set to provide a perfect insight into the exceptional level of riding coming from our future stars in the sport, with over 170 junior riders taking to the track, including a stack of riders beginning their journey in the sport in the 50cc Demo (non-competitive) field.

Determined to continue her round 1 streak of successes, Emily Lambert is back this weekend in the Great Southern Security 100cc to 150cc 2-stroke and 200cc to 250cc 4-stroke Girls class, with last year’s Champion Charlize Waldhuter looking for any chance to take over the overall lead.

With SAMX young gun regulars including current leaderboard talents like Jayke Hansen, Dylan Gromball, Lacey Thompson, Mason Ezergailis, Koby Smart, and Oliver Thredgold taking on SA and Australia’s top junior fields, it’s going to be an edge-of-the-seat showdown for points leads.

Where:

Situated just outside the picturesque Riverland region, and adjacent to Renmark, there’s no better excuse to make the trip down for the weekend to experience everything the region has to offer and witness SA’s best motocross talent continue their Championship rivalries.

No need to worry about packing lunch if you prefer to travel light. With a fully stocked canteen offering hot food and cold drinks throughout the weekend, this event will be a one-stop shop for attendees of all ages to refuel between on-track action. Results – SAMX Championships Round 1 Points Dashes at Motocross Riders Association

April 17, 2024 Filed Under: Motocross, News, SAMX Championship

Last weekend, the South Australian Motocross Championships made a thrilling return to the Motocross Riders Association in Gillman for Round 1. The action-packed event kept fans on the edge of their seats with an impressive lineup of racers. Additionally, Round 1 welcomed Three 3s Apparel and Merch as a major sponsor for the 2024 Championship, alongside the return of Great Southern Security as a sponsor for the 2024 Championship. With a fantastic 231 riders and 280 bikes taking to the track over the 2 packed days of racing, fans young and old soaked up the sheer talent available for Motocross in South Australia.

Before we get into the 2024 SA Motocross Championship Round 1 top ten point results below, let’s take a look at some of the weekend highlights:

Jet lag certainly didn’t slow down Honda Racing’s Todd Wilson, as he went on to win the hotly contested Pro MX 1 class after a tight Race 1 battle with teammate Kyle Webster. Although Webster gained the upper hand in the heat, Wilson secured victories in Races 2 and 3 to claim the overall top spot. Current championship 4th place holder, Siegeh Ward, will be looking to seize every opportunity to take over the overall championship lead in the upcoming rounds.

Honda Racing’s Charli Cannon took control of the Women’s All Powers class, winning all three races with ease. An early championship battle is forming between ‘holeshot’ Haylock and reigning champion Amy Bartsch. In the end, Haylock took the runner-up championship spot for the weekend with second-place finishes in Races 2 and 3.

The fiercely contested 100-125cc 2-stroke class for ages 13-16 was won by Jayke Hansen, who secured victories in Races 2 and 3. Dylan Gromball followed closely in second place, while Noah James took third. Despite missing out on the 2023 championship and never securing the top spot on the podium until now, it appears the class battles are just heating up. Only time will tell if 2024 will be Hansen’s year.

Making an exciting return for 2024, Great Southern Security is back to support the Junior Girls Championship classes. In the Great Southern Security 100cc to 150cc 2-stroke and 200cc to 250cc 4-stroke Girls class, Emily Lambert swept the weekend, finishing ahead of 2023 runner-up Danielle Churchett and last year’s champion Charlize Waldhuter.

In the Great Southern Security 85cc 2-stroke and 150cc 4-stroke (All Wheels) Girls class, Lacey Thompson secured the top spot, finishing just 5 points ahead of Maddy Bahnisch. Despite Maddy’s late charge and Race 3 win, she placed second overall, while Matilda Ryan of Morgan Motorcycle Club took third place.

Offering a glimpse into the next generation of South Australian Motocross stars, South Coast MX Club’s Oliver Thredgold gained a small but crucial advantage over MRA’s Carter Williamson by just 3 points, with Hilton Motorcycle Club’s Hudson Hitch in third.

We are excited to welcome Three 3s Apparel and Merch as a major sponsor for 2024. Be sure to stop by and check out their stand next weekend, and say hello to the team. We are also thrilled to welcome back longtime supporter Great Southern Security, which will continue its partnership with us for another year. Speaking of returning legends, the Motocross Riders Association will kickstart the 2024 Championships, promising an electrifying start to what is set to be an exhilarating weekend ahead.

With the deadline for late entries now passed, excitement is in the air as we prepare for this weekend’s introduction to the 2024 SAMX Championships. A remarkable count of over 231 riders and 280 bikes are poised to hit the track, with all eyes on who will take the holeshot and claim an early Championship lead.

As the countdown to the first gate drop begins, let’s shine a spotlight on some of the key talents set to tear up the MRA track this weekend:

Reigning 2024 King of the Gulf Champion and ProMX talent, Siegah Ward returns to challenge the likes of Penrite Go 24’s Brett Metcalfe and the Honda Australia Factory team duo of Wilson Todd and Kyle Webster.

Round 1 will witness a fierce MX 2 competition, with 22 racers hailing from NSW, Vic, QLD, and SA vying for victory. Mitch Norris, the reigning MX 2 Champion, aims for a third title in 2024, facing a stacked field of stiff competition, including the emerging talents of class newcomer Wil Carpenter. Wil has aged up in 2024 to seniors and is taking on the MX 2 class after claiming the 2023 Junior Lites Championship.

The MX All Powers Women’s class makes a triumphant return, led by perennial champion Amy Bartsch. However, Bartsch faces the hard-charging challenges of a determined Emma Haylock and the formidable Charli Cannon, both eager to dethrone her Championship reign.

Showing that age is just a number, seasoned veterans are making a comeback with former champions Bradleigh Thompson (35-44) and Darren Averay (45+) once again taking their place on the grid for another exhilarating season.

Additionally, the lineup includes 24 Experts and 25 Clubmen, adding to the excitement of the weekend’s senior program. With the Championships of these two classes having been decided in nail-biting fashion in 2023, anticipation is high for what promises to be another nail-biting year of racing action. Make sure you don’t miss a moment of the new 2024 Championship chapter.

The future of the sport shines with promise as nearly 130 riders gear up to show off their skills, including the returning 2023 Championship talents of Bodhi Austin, Charlize Waldhuter, Kye Little, Riley Mullen, and Kobe Smart, ready to leave their mark once again. Joining them are a stack of fresh faces, eager to take their own race wins at MRA.

In addition, the 50cc demo non-competitive class will hit the track, providing our young racers with a taste of the state Championship atmosphere. This experience will help them hone their skills and lay the foundation for their journey in the sport.

For SAMX fans eager to witness the Championship opener firsthand, head down to MRA Gillman this weekend. The action kicks off both days at 8 am, and be sure to stay updated on all the Championship action through the SA Motocross Facebook page and the Motocross Riders Association Facebook page. Get ready for a weekend packed with down-to-the-line racing and unforgettable moments on the track.

Check out the program for the weekend – HERE.

If you can’t get down to MRA this weekend, you can still keep up with the racing as it happens with live timing through Speedhive.

RESULTS – 2023 SA MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIPS ROUND 4

September 12, 2023 Filed Under: Motocross, News, SAMX Championship

Last weekend saw the exciting fourth and final round of the 2023 SA Motocross Championships run and won with the Motocross Riders Association. Feeling a bit of déjà vu from the round 1 battles, riders returned to Gillman from all corners of SA to claim the last crucial points and cement placings on the 2023 Championship table.

We will share a write-up on the event soon, but for the moment below are the overall weekend points results. Full race results can be found on Speedhive and of course, the 2023 Championship points leader board can be found – HERE.

EVENT PREVIEW – GATES DROP ONE LAST TIME AT MRA FOR THE 2023 SA MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIPS FINALE

September 6, 2023 Filed Under: News, SAMX Championship

Taking a final bow, the 2023 SA Motocross Championships returns back to where it all started at Gillman with the Motocross Riders Association this coming 9th and 10th of September. With the Championship yet to be decided and very little between many of the class leaders, this final weekend of competitions is going to be filled with bar-to-bar racing right down to the line.

If you’re somehow still undecided… entry over the weekend is free for spectators so round up all the kids and come down to the MRA to see the SA Motocross Championships for the last time in 2023. Don’t fret if you forget your lunch either, the MRA team has you completely covered with a fully stocked canteen dishing out hot food and cold drinks all day.

Continuing our journey right to the end are our amazing series sponsors, Butler’s Mechanical Service and Great Southern Security. We can’t express how appreciative we are for all the support they have both provided to the South Australian Motocross Championships – Thank you so very much.

Entry List:

Just shy of 200 riders will be lining up for the final time in this years Motocross Championships with still plenty of opportunity throughout the weekend to replace points leaders and see overall Championships stolen away.

Joining the masses of juniors lining up this weekend in the 13-U16 125cc class, points leader Wil Carpenter is back to continue the 2023 Championship charge, but with only a 27 point gap to Jayke Hansen, he can’t afford to relax for a second.

Don’t miss seeing the points table change in the 150cc/250cc 13-U16Yrs Girls with Amelia Gwiazda unfortunately out injured. This opens up the opportunity of Charlize Waldhuter to close the 6 points gap to take over control of the Championship class. This however is certainly not set in stone with Lexy Hayes lining up as a contender for the 2023 150cc/250cc 13-U16YRS Girls Championship.

With 23 riders set to put on a show in the Junior Lites 250cc 13-U16Yrs class, you are going to want to make sure to keep an eye out for all the Championship battles set to go down. Can Clayton Bogucki make up the 39 point gap on Will Carpenter or will third place points holder Jackson Rossi get the round win?? Only time will tell.

Still on a high after taking a 7th overall in the Aus Pro MX – Women’s MX and determined to hold onto the SAMX Butlers Mechanical Service Women’s All Powers lead, Amy Bartsch will take to the track again this weekend. She will need to keep her head on a swivel though with Great Southern Security and Butlers Mechanical team rider Emma Haylock looking for any opportunity to close the Championship 21 points gap.

Turning the speed up to level 10, current Pro MX1 Championship leader, Brett Metcalfe is back this weekend with current third place contender Levi McManus lining right up next to him. With Siegah Ward out injured from a crash in the ProMX round 8, Levi will be doing everything he can to hold off the field and close the points gap.
