Now that we have 41 clubs that have renewed their affiliation with MSA for 2025/26, we thought this would be a good time to review our processes, and communicate them to our clubs and private promoters, so there are clear guidelines moving forward.
The aim of the information is to ensure all clubs and promoters are aware of their expectations, particularly relating to the permitting and reporting of events.

Coaching Permits – Important Information
Motorcycling South Australia have been receiving a number of queries surrounding the process required for running coaching sessions. Additionally, we will be implementing some clear timelines surrounding the requesting of permits, and the processing of endorsements to help us streamline the process and to allow us sufficient time for administration.
Please review all information carefully so that you are fully aware of a coach’s obligations.

PERMITS
Private or Commercial Coaches: All coaching activities must be conducted under a Coaching Permit. It is the coaches’ responsibility to apply for the permit and submit all required paperwork to MSA in the stipulated timeframes. From 15 July 2025, commercial coaches will need to pay for coaching permits upfront.
Club Coaches: Coaching activities through clubs can be conducted under a Coaching Permit, but can also be run under Club Training Days, Recreational Activity or RPA days. Clubs are responsible to apply for the permits and submit all required paperwork to MSA in the stipulated timeframes. Where any coaching activity is not run under a dedicated coaching permit (eg RPA), sessions must be run separately, away from any other activity. PLEASE NOTE: The ability to run coaching sessions at recreational rides is currently under review and may change in the near future.
TIME FRAMES
Permits: An application for a coaching permit MUST be submitted at least 7 days prior to the event. Any applications submitted within 7 days will incur an urgency fee of $55. Any applications submitted within 48 hours of the planned event may not be approved.
Reports: All reports must be submitted electronically to MSA within 5 working days, with the exception of the injury reports which must be submitted within 24 hours after the event (or the next business day). Failure to provide these reports within the required timeframes will incur a late fee of $200. Failure to provide these reports within 30 days will result in the temporary suspension of permits being issued until the required reports have been correctly submitted.
Cancellations: For private or commercial coaches, if you wish to cancel a coaching event, this MUST be communicated to MSA in writing at least 24 hours prior to the event. Any events cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice will still incur a permit fee.
Failure to pay any of the above mentioned fees will result in the suspension of permits being issued.
REPORTS & ENDORSEMENTS
Following the coaching event, sign in sheets and event reports must be submitted to MSA correctly. No endorsement will be approved if the coaches’ paperwork hasn’t been correctly received.
All endorsements MUST be recorded on the appropriate log book. Kick-start books or coaching books must be used for every rider that is seeking and endorsment. The coach must fill out the book(s) correctly so that the riders can upload the relevant pages to their RiderNet profile. Only then will their endorsement be approved. Failure to fill out the details correctly will result in the endorsement being denied.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
All Coaches must:
Any club or coach found to be hosting events without a permit or using an incorrect permit will be charged a fee of $1,000. In addition, any club or coach found to be in breach of any rules after investigation will be charged a fee of $500.

For a full list of requirements please read the MA National Coaching Guidelines. Please ensure you are familiar with these guidelines to ensure all processes are being followed correctly. More resources can be found here.
Please feel free to contact MSA for more information.
Last weekend, 15 of South Australia’s top trial talents took on the nation’s best at the 2024 GASGAS Australian Trial Championship in Ravenswood, near Bendigo—and our riders certainly made their mark! From crowning the first-ever South Australian Trial 1 Open Australian Champion to securing multiple podium finishes and several top-10 placings, 2024 has been a standout year for our SA contingent. Before diving into the full SA results, let’s highlight a few of the weekend’s standout moments.
Fresh from representing Australia at his seventh Trial des Nations (TdN) and competing against world-class riders in Europe, Connor Hogan returned to Australian soil in sensational form. Tackling the challenging Open Solo/Trial 1 class, Connor barely put a foot wrong over two days, finishing 25 points clear of NSW’s 9-time reigning, Kyle Middleton to be crowned the 2024 Trial 1 Australian Champion and Australian #1 for the first time. Reviewing his historic win, Connor said, “It’s taken a long time and a lot of hard work, but I finally managed to take the win.” He continued, “Congratulations to all the other riders in the field, in particular Kyle Middleton who I have idolised for many years and whose level has always been a goal to strive towards. Biggest thanks need to go to the Turners; without Paul and Harry Turner it would have been extremely difficult to do what I did overseas this year, not to mention all the guidance Harry provided on the bike. This one means a lot!”

This monumental achievement places Connor among an elite group of South Australians, as only Kym Powell (1981) and Adrian Harry (2002/03) have previously reached the podium in the Trial 1 Australian Championship.
Several other South Australians joined Connor with Championship podium performances after the 2 huge days. Rob White claimed third place in the Veterans 55+ class, Hayden Eardley secured third in the Youth category, and Cadance Long achieved third in the Junior Girls 7 to Under 13 Championship. Special recognition goes to Aaron Long, who set aside his 2024 Championship campaign to support and mind his daughter, Cadance, as she earned her well-deserved podium finish.
Special mention and kudos to Lucinda Cowan and Ashley Barwick, who both stepped up to ride in the Open Women’s class, as there were no Open Junior Girls class featured over the weekend. Their determination to compete at this higher level demonstrates the resilience and talent emerging from our South Australian riders.
In the State Team Championship, the Team SA Wallabies, featuring Connor Hogan, Hayden Eardley, Kody Irrgang, and Lucinda Cowan, delivered a stellar performance, securing third place ahead of Queensland. Meanwhile, the Team SA Taipans—comprising Alisha Harry, Harry Petersen, Cadance Long, and Oliver Schultz—finished in a commendable 7th place. The Taipans were closely matched with Western Australia, narrowly missing out on sixth by just 8 points.
With such a high level of trial expertise across all classes, our SA riders have made us incredibly proud. We are confident that many future Australian champions are in the making, ready to leave their mark in the coming years. A massive congratulations to all our South Aussie Trial 2024 Championship competitors!

As the 2024 SA Trial season reaches its thrilling finale, the Juventus MCC is excited to bring the Rockhopping SA – GASGAS 2024 SA Trial Championship to Mt Pleasant on September 14th and 15th. This highly anticipated event will showcase South Australia’s top trial riders alongside leading competitors from across Australia, all vying for the prestigious 2024 SA Championships.
The weekend promises an exhilarating display of trial riding talent. With 20 senior riders and 19 juniors set to compete across the two days, expect intense action and fierce competition. In addition to these competitive classes, a range of non-competitive riders will also participate, highlighting the diverse skill range of South Australia’s top trialists.
The excitement ramps up with NSW’s multiple Australian Champion and Australian representative, Colin Zarczynski, competing in Trial 1, while Aaron Long and Grant Stephen will go head-to-head in Trial 2. Over the two action-packed days, 17 junior trial stars will showcase their skills across Junior A, B Open, and Trial 1-3 classes. Don’t miss the chance to see rising talents like Cooper Harry, Eve Bentley, and Haydon Barwick in action, alongside 2023 winners Kody Irrgang (Trial 4), Lucinda Cowan (Junior Women), Isaac Schultz (Junior A), and Cadance Long (Junior B Women), all aiming to make their mark at Mt Pleasant.
With so much on the line and a diverse lineup of riders, the Rockhopping SA – GASGAS SA 2024 Trial Championship is set to deliver an unforgettable weekend of trial riding.
Adrian Harry, a long-time supporter of the Rockhopping SA – GASGAS SA Trial Championship and Juventus MCC member, shared his enthusiasm for the event:
“Yeah, it’s awesome to host the 2-day 2024 SA Championship. On a good note, our state is strong, with Australia’s best in male and female classes. However, date clashes mean they are overseas competing in the Trials des Nations, leaving the Championship open for the taking. We have expert rider and ex-Aussie champ Colin Zarczynski from NSW, who will be expected to lead the way. We also have a strong field of juniors in SA who will be right there with him, watching every move.
Biased opinion alert: we have the most varied property in the state, with sections including logs, big and small, arena-style sections over cable reels and concrete pipes, and a sandpit-type section with no rock steps where the top 3 classes will tackle the same line. Full catering and camping will be onsite, so I’m looking forward to hearing all the ‘woulda, coulda, shoulda’ stories around the campfire Saturday evening!”
The 2024 SA Trial Championships promise an incredible weekend of trial riding! With free entry for spectators across both days & fully homemade catering, there’s no better place to be. Join us from 9 am on Saturday and 8:30 am on Sunday at the Mount Pleasant Venue, 736 Angas Valley Road. Bring your family and immerse yourselves in the thrilling competition and vibrant atmosphere as we celebrate the end of an extraordinary season. Don’t miss the chance to witness some of the best riders in action and enjoy a weekend full of family fun!

Last Sunday, June 16th, the AJS Moto Trial Club brought all the action of the Rockhopping SA TROY Series SA 2024 Round 2 – 49th Peter Sparkes Trophy Trial to Tungkillo. With South Australian trial skills across all ages lining up on another fantastic set of sections, the weather came out in the end for a perfect day of trial riding despite a chilli, misty start.
Event organiser and Secretary for the AJS Moto Trials Club, Brenton Wundenberg, said, “The Peter Sparkes 49th Trophy Trial saw a field of nearly 40 male and female entries take on the never-ridden-before part of the magnificent Hentschke’s Tungkillo property. The day started out cold and foggy, and riders gathered around the campfire to listen to the morning briefing. From there, they headed out to tackle the nine sections set in a tight loop.
After the first lap, riders’ comments were ‘slippery and more slippery.’ This remained true in the afternoon session, but Junior B rider Max Gill rode the day to only drop 1 point, and T3 rider Steve Rees went one better and had a clean day. It was a great day of riding and was wrapped up with a results presentation and smiles all around. Next year’s Trial will mark the 50th Peter Sparkes Trophy Trial and will undoubtedly be an event not to be missed.”
With thanks as always to our Series sponsors:
