Last Sunday, April 28th, witnessed the commemoration and jubilation of the 50th running of the Mountain Man Trial, organised by Keyneton MCC. The event featured the Rockhopping SA 2024 SA Women’s Cup. This year’s occasion was made even more special as it marked the 16th time Keyneton MCC has hosted the event duo. The picturesque Ahrens Ponderosa at Menglers Hill provided the perfect backdrop, attracting riders not only from South Australia but also from Victoria, drawn by the promise of exceptional weather and challenging terrain.
Riders of all abilities were greeted with a fantastic course meticulously laid out by the Keyneton MCC. The course boasted many fresh obstacles, ensuring the 59-strong field of riders remained engaged and on their toes throughout the event. Adding to the day’s festivities was the presence of former A-Grade competitor and Keyneton MCC life member, Bob Petts. Despite making the journey down from Wallaroo, Bob Petts was enthusiastic about being the special guest on the day. His pivotal role in naming the ‘Mountain Man’ Trial made him a standout figure in the history of South Australian Trials. Competitors and trial fans alike had the unique opportunity to meet and interact with a key player in shaping the legacy of South Australian Trials.

Here’s to another 50 years of Mountain Man Trials and the enduring legacy they represent.
South Australian Trials Sports Manager Matthew Petersen said “Having Bob Petts, the man who named the Mountain Man Trial attend in person and speak at riders briefing to celebrate the 50th running of the event was really special.
