Provisional Results – Gawler Motorcycle Centre 2024 SART Championship: The Lew Job 2 Day Trial

Last weekend, the spotlight was on the Reliability Trials at Robertstown, which coincided with the fan-favourite Mutton & Gravy Roll, marking the third round of the Gawler Motorcycle Centre 2024 SA Reliability Trial Championship – The Lew Job Trial, presented by the Velocette MCC. The weekend was particularly special as it also marked the 50th anniversary and the 49th running of the iconic ‘Robbie 2 Day Trial’, adding an extra layer of celebration to the event.
This year, due to less rain than usual leading up to the event, riders faced a continuous onslaught of dust, with the notorious ‘bog hole’ proving to be the exception and giving riders the slightest bit of mud experience. As expected, the riders’ endurance and stamina were put to the test as the packed field tackled the 95 km course. The added challenge of night riding on Saturday further tested their limits before finishing with a full day on Sunday.

Adding to the drawcard of providing that last bit of nighttime reliability trial riding before the HARDI 24 Hour Trial Centenary 1924-2024 is run and won, a stacked field of 133 solos and sidecars made the yearly trek up to Mid North for the weekend. With Championship outright leaders Nicholas Throup and Rowan Pumpa missing the round, this opened up the opportunity for Riley Graham to let loose and take firm control of the round’s outright solo and overall competition. Setting an absolutely blistering pace, Graham was unmatched and took the Lew Job 2 Day Trial honors with a lead of 3 minutes and 14 seconds ahead of Tristan Throup. The battle for the second and third podium positions was much tighter, as Throup entered Sunday just 24 seconds ahead of a fast-paced Clinton Voigt. Despite some tight laps, Voigt couldn’t close the gap to Throup, ultimately settling for third, trailing by just 57 seconds at the end.

Bradley Hunter and Bradley Manuel proved they are a force to be reckoned with by taking the Lew Job 2-Day Trial sidecar win after leading every lap of the weekend. Shaun Blenkiron and Nathan Saegenschnitter secured second place after showing great consistency and narrowly beating the cracking pace of Matthew Neldner and Aiden Wilksch. The challenging course saw many competitors unable to finish, including Shane Beckman and Adam Brook, who sat third in the Championship as of round 2. They will be looking to claw back points in the coming rounds and are surely already planning their redemption at next year’s Lew Job 2-Day Trial.

Keep in mind, as always, that these results are provisional for five days after publication, allowing riders to review and lodge any challenges before the results are finalized at midnight on Saturday, June 15th.

Preview – Gawler Motorcycle Centre 2024 SART Championship Return To Robbie For A Mutton & Gravy Roll with a side of Lew Job 2 Day Trial Action

Arguably one of the most anticipated weekends of the year, the Gawler Motorcycle Centre SA Reliability Trial Championship comes to Robertstown for Round 3’s Lew Job 2 Day Trial on Saturday, the 10th, and Sunday, the 11th of June, hosted by the Velocette MCC. This year is particularly special as it marks the 50th year and 49th running of the Lew Job 2 Day Trial. As always, fans and competitors will enjoy everything the SA Mid North has to offer, including the famous Mutton and Gravy Rolls that consistently draw crowds. With the Championship round marking the half and two full days of reliability trial riding ahead, Robertstown promises to be the perfect backdrop for a weekend of double the action, setting the standard in the Championship standings. 

Event organiser and Secretary for the Velocette MCC Michael Kerin said “I am so excited for another long weekend at Robbie and a fantastic course layout with many returning favourites for 2024. The Trail has withstood the test of time & is a true test of Rider & Machine over two days.

Entry List:

Building on last year’s impressive turnout at the Robbie 2 Day Trial, this weekend will see 133 solo riders and sidecars taking to the course. Known for delivering tight finish times, the Robbie course promises intense competition.

With frontrunners Rowan Pumpa and Nicholas Throup absent, and last year’s champion Cooper Sheidow still recovering from an injury, the stage is set for Samuel Nenasheff’s consistency to shine. This round of the Championship could see Nenasheff taking the top spot. This is not going to be an easy task with the competition and strong performance of round 1 runner-up Tristan Throup lining back up for the round. 

The anticipation mounts as the spotlight shifts onto Bradley Hunter & Bradley Manuel, spearheading the weekend’s sidecar action. With the formidable absence of Shane Schiller and Steven Doecke, all eyes are on Hunter and Manuel to seize the opportunity and establish dominance from the outset. Amidst a field teeming with 23 determined teams vying to etch their names into the illustrious 2024 Robbie Sidecar honours list, speculation brews. Will Shane Beckmann & Adam Brook mount the most formidable challenge to Schiller and Doecke’s throne, or shall we witness the emergence of a fresh contender, poised to rewrite the narrative at Robbie??

Where:

Returning to fan-favourite traditions, the Lew Job 2 Day Trial, affectionately known as “The Robbie 2 Day,” will kick off from Robertstown Oval, located on Main St, Robertstown, home of the Southern Saints Football Club – (Google maps here).

For 2024, riders’ endurance will be given a great test on a challenging 95km course, with each lap taking around 3 hours to complete. With minimal rainfall covering Robertstown over the last couple of weeks, participants will face a dry, arid landscape filled with plenty of mallee holes and deep ruts by the weekend’s end. Over the two days, riders will complete 2 laps of 3 hours each, with the added challenge of nighttime riding on Saturday. Of course, a huge draw card and rider favourite making its return for 2024 will see riders’ speed ramp right up as they take on Spring Hut Creek.

 

When:

Once you’re all stocked up on food and drink, the first rider will start their journey at 1:01 pm Saturday and a fresh early start at 9:01 am Sunday.

What more can we say except…Mutton and Gravy Rolls on hand all weekend!!

Results – 2024 SA Road Race Championship Make A Round 3 Final Sprint Finish at Mallala

The 2024 SA Road Race Championship resumed on May 25th and 26th at the iconic Mallala Motorsport Park, marking the season’s halfway point after a brief hiatus. Fans gathered at the popular Mallala viewing hill, amidst unseasonably warm weather, to witness the intensified on-track rivalries and Championship points battles. As we delve into the Round results below, let’s explore some of the stories that made up the weekend.

 

Declan Carberry’s Superbike weekend took an unfortunate turn with a significant crash during the second lap of practice, forcing him to end his weekend prematurely with a hospital visit. Despite this setback, reports indicate that Declan is in high spirits and eager to return to the grid.

Charles Holding continues to dominate the 2024 Superbike Championship, maintaining his hold on the round overall first position. However, the competition remains fierce, with Brad Raethal trailing closely by just 27 points. Michael Kemp remains a strong contender, securing third place for the round despite engaging in a tightly contested battle with Raethel. Unfortunately, Dwayne Tosen’s Superbike race 1 lap 2 would see bike issues end his weekend in the Superbike class, shiting his focus to his Supersport campaign. 

Entering the round as the leader of the Supersport Championship, Unitech Racing’s Sam Pezzetta faced a challenging weekend. Not only did he have to adapt to a new bike, but he also had to contend with Holding, trailing close behind him in the standings. Despite putting up a huge fight and achieving consistent results, taking fourth place in the class for the round, Pezzetta lost the overall championship lead. Charles Holding took over the lead with his second-place finish in Round 3, behind Cooper Rowntree, who secured the round class win and is currently 6th in the 2024 Class Championship. Shaking off his Superbike weekend issues, Dwayne Tosen would take the round third with a string of 4th and 3rd heat finishes. 

Following a strong start with a second place in qualifying and a sixth-place finish in Race 1 of the Limited class, Tara Morrison unfortunately endured a severe crash in Race 2, necessitating a trip to the hospital for treatment. Alongside her in the list of weekend’s unfortunate early finishes in the Limited class, Simon Willgoose’s Round 3 concluded with a crash in qualifying finishing his weekend. As with all the crashes this weekend, we extend our hopes for a speedy recovery to Tara, Declen Simon, and all our racers, wishing them a prompt return to the track. Meanwhile, Rikki Henry narrowed the gap in the Limited Championship points standings by securing a clean sweep of wins, inching closer to current leader Andy Pitman, who maintains a slim 3-point lead.

After a clean sweep round win in the SS300 class, Ryder Gilbert has leapfrogged Ghage Plowman for the Championship table first place. However, with only a 10-point gap, there is plenty more fight in Ghage with 2 more rounds to go. Jordan Simpson held his own to claim the round 3, second place finish ahead of Plowman in third. 

With Judd Plaisted absent from the round, the Championship lead was up for grabs, leading to an intense battle for first place overall. Brothers Ethan & Seth Dellow provided thrilling performances, exchanging heat wins throughout the weekend. Despite Seth’s strong showing with wins in heats 2 & 3, Ethan narrowly edged out Seth for the Championship lead by 3 points, clinching victory despite Seth’s round first-place finish.

As excitement mounts, riders and their support teams eagerly await the annual interstate journey to Phillip Island for Round 4 of the SA Road Race Championship, coinciding with the Vic Road Race Championship from September 13th to 15th, 2024. Supersport SA Championship – Round 3

Provisional Results – Gawler Motorcycle Centre 2024 SART Championship Kick Up The Dust At Round 2: The Mike Connors Trial

The Gawler Motorcycle Centre 2024 SA Reliability Trial Championship continued last Saturday with Keyneton MCC proudly presenting Round 2 – the Mike Connors Trial. Excitement was at an all-time high as the SART Championship rounds filled up well in advance, generating significant interest in who could secure the Round 2 Championship points. With the main control moved to Keyneton Oval, riders faced a challenging day in what could only be described as a dust storm, completing a full day of two laps.

Showing off those endurance skills to good effect, 2023’s Solo Champion Rowan Pumpa excelled through the Barossa landscape, delivering a clean run to secure the top spot for solo and overall for the round. He was closely followed by 2023’s Championship sixth overall Jesse Lange, who finished second by just 1 minute and 90 seconds. Despite posting a scorching second fastest time on lap 1, Round 1 winner Nicholas Throup had to settle for third place, trailing Lange by a mere 13 seconds by the end of the day loam gauntlet.

The sidecar competition was marked by a thrilling sprint to the finish between the Sidecar Championship leaders, Bradley Hunter and Bradley Manuel, and the runner-up team of Shane Schiller and Steven Doecke. In the first lap, Hunter and Manuel set a blistering pace, establishing a 36-second lead. The competition intensified in the second lap, with both teams evenly matched. Despite the fierce challenge, Hunter and Manuel managed to extend their lead by just 3 seconds during the second lap, securing their hold on the overall Championship.

Full provisional results for the open solo and sidecar are listed below & detailed results across all classes can be found on the SART website. As usual, these results are provisional for five days after publication, allowing riders to review and lodge any challenges before the results are finalized at midnight on Friday, May 31st.

Continuing onto the next instalment of the 2024 SART Championship, our competitors are set to make the return back to “Robbie” for the Lew Job 2 Day Trial, presented by the Velocette MCC, over the June long weekend. Following the trend of Round 2, entries have reached capacity and closed, with many riders and fans already gearing up for the famous Mutton & Gravy Rolls on hand all weekend.

Event Preview – 2024 SA Road Race Championships Round 3 Drops The Chequered Flag At Mallala

Returning this weekend after a brief hiatus, the SA Road Race Championships, presented by Cafnix, are set to bring Mallala back to life as Round 3 takes to the grid. Marking the championship’s halfway point, class outright positions are still completely up for grabs as South Australia’s fastest road racers put it all on the line over two huge days of racing. Joining the SA Championship class lineup this weekend are the Steve Martin/Peter Kerr Cup and the Reece Bancell Cup.

As anticipation builds for the upcoming Mallala Superbike Championship weekend, all eyes are poised on Charles Holding, the current leader of the 2024 Superbike Championship, edging ahead by just a single point over his closest rival, Brad Raethel. Meanwhile, Michael Kemp remains a potent contender, trailing a mere 17 points behind Raethel. The burning question on everyone’s mind: will we witness a new Championship leader emerge from the thrilling battles of this weekend, or will Charles Holding continue to tighten his grip on the overall standings?

Turning our attention to the Supersport class, where the championship race remains tantalizingly open, the spotlight falls on current leader, Sam Pezzetta of Unitech Racing. With Charles Holding nipping at his heels, trailing by a mere 3 points, Pezzetta faces the challenge of maintaining his lead. With just 29 points separating the top contender from sixth place, the Mallala circuit is primed for a potential shakeup of the leaderboard. In the realm of the Supersport 300 Championship, Ghage Plowman returns to defend his lead with a slender 18-point advantage over the burgeoning talent of Ryder Gilbert. Alongside Plowman, stalwarts of the SS300 class, including Jordan Simpson and Cooper Pitt, prepare to show off their skills on the track. Adding to the intrigue is the return of “Tornado” Tara Morrison, making a comeback to the SA Championship start grid after recovering from an injury sustained in SA’s Road Race Championship Round 1. With recent appearances in the ASBK Championships and the Pirelli Motul Victorian Road Racing Championship under her belt, Morrison appears poised to challenge the frontrunners and inject fresh energy into the competition.

Meanwhile, the junior riders return to showcase the future of SA road race talent. With current Championship leader Judd Plaisted absent from this round, Ethan Dellow seizes the opportunity to narrow the 27-point gap. However, the competitive landscape intensifies with the return of Seth Dellow and Ghage Plowman, promising a fierce battle for supremacy in round 3 at Mallala.

As the SA Reliability Trials Championship continues its thrilling 2024 season, the Mike Connors Trial is set to return to Keyneton on Saturday, May 25th. Building on the excitement from the highly successful Phillip Haydon Trial, which saw registrations close early due to hitting maximum capacity, the Mike Connors Trial is looking to be a huge day for riders and spectators. 

Returning for 2024, Riders will start at Keyneton Oval before they head over the hills towards the Barossa. With the lack of rain coming into the event, competitors will be kept on their toes through dust and loam as they face off the 2-lap format, riding for about 6 – 8 hours.

Feeling a bit of déjà vu? Entries hit capacity and closed early as 208 competitors gear up to take on the course for 2024. Following an exceptional round 1, the Reliability Trials have truly bounced back from the lull caused by COVID-19.

This weekend, all eyes will be on Nick Throup, the current 2024 Expert Solo Champion and winner of round 1. Nick aims to solidify his lead in the points standings, leveraging the absence of his closest competitor and brother, Tristan Throup, who secured the runner-up position in the first round but won’t be competing this weekend. Current third-place Expert Open rider Samuel Nenasheff is set to join the stacked field and challenge Nicholas. Coming off last weekend’s AORC wins, Rowan Pumpa will also be looking to close the Championship lead gap.

The competition is set to heat up in the Sidecar field as the top three teams—Bradley Hunter/Bradley Manuel, Shane Schiller/Steven Doecke, and Shane Beckmann/Adam Brook—are all back for a round two rematch. After an unfortunate premature exit in round one, the 2023 Sidecar Champion team of Max Hutchesson and Sam Hutchesson will be eager to get their 2024 Championship back on track.

Adding to all the excitement, round 1 class heavy hitters set to take on this weekend include Jake Henderson in ‘Clubman Open 2-Stroke,’ Noah Riebke in ‘Clubman Up to 405cc 4-Stroke,’ and Tyson Schumacher in ‘406cc & Over Four Stroke.’ Coming off her round 1 Ladies All Powers win, Chloe Barton is fired up to make it 2 for 2, but with exceptionally fast ladies joining her, this weekend could be anyone’s to take.

Returning to the Barossa District, Keyneton remains a fan favourite round for families of all ages to enjoy South Australia’s reliability trial talents. This year, the event will kick off at the Keyneton Oval, where all the main information and control start will be located. The Keyneton Progress Association will be on hand, offering a variety of hot food and cold drinks, while a coffee van ensures riders and spectators are energized for a full day of action.

Drop by the main control at Keyneton Oval early for all the excitement of the Round 2 Mike Connors Trial kick-off as the first rider is due out at 8:44 am.

Once you’ve stocked up on food and drink at the main control point at Keyneton Oval, be sure to catch some of the action at the nearby spectator area. Don’t forget to pick up a copy of the spectator maps, which will guide you to the best spots to experience all the excitement of the Mike Connors Trial.
