Provisional Results – Gawler Motorcycle Centre 2024 SART Championship Kick Up The Dust At Round 2: The Mike Connors Trial

The Gawler Motorcycle Centre 2024 SA Reliability Trial Championship continued last Saturday with Keyneton MCC proudly presenting Round 2 – the Mike Connors Trial. Excitement was at an all-time high as the SART Championship rounds filled up well in advance, generating significant interest in who could secure the Round 2 Championship points. With the main control moved to Keyneton Oval, riders faced a challenging day in what could only be described as a dust storm, completing a full day of two laps.

Showing off those endurance skills to good effect, 2023’s Solo Champion Rowan Pumpa excelled through the Barossa landscape, delivering a clean run to secure the top spot for solo and overall for the round. He was closely followed by 2023’s Championship sixth overall Jesse Lange, who finished second by just 1 minute and 90 seconds. Despite posting a scorching second fastest time on lap 1, Round 1 winner Nicholas Throup had to settle for third place, trailing Lange by a mere 13 seconds by the end of the day loam gauntlet.

The sidecar competition was marked by a thrilling sprint to the finish between the Sidecar Championship leaders, Bradley Hunter and Bradley Manuel, and the runner-up team of Shane Schiller and Steven Doecke. In the first lap, Hunter and Manuel set a blistering pace, establishing a 36-second lead. The competition intensified in the second lap, with both teams evenly matched. Despite the fierce challenge, Hunter and Manuel managed to extend their lead by just 3 seconds during the second lap, securing their hold on the overall Championship.

Full provisional results for the open solo and sidecar are listed below & detailed results across all classes can be found on the SART website. As usual, these results are provisional for five days after publication, allowing riders to review and lodge any challenges before the results are finalized at midnight on Friday, May 31st.

Continuing onto the next instalment of the 2024 SART Championship, our competitors are set to make the return back to “Robbie” for the Lew Job 2 Day Trial, presented by the Velocette MCC, over the June long weekend. Following the trend of Round 2, entries have reached capacity and closed, with many riders and fans already gearing up for the famous Mutton & Gravy Rolls on hand all weekend.

Event Preview – 2024 SA Road Race Championships Round 3 Drops The Chequered Flag At Mallala

Returning this weekend after a brief hiatus, the SA Road Race Championships, presented by Cafnix, are set to bring Mallala back to life as Round 3 takes to the grid. Marking the championship’s halfway point, class outright positions are still completely up for grabs as South Australia’s fastest road racers put it all on the line over two huge days of racing. Joining the SA Championship class lineup this weekend are the Steve Martin/Peter Kerr Cup and the Reece Bancell Cup.

As anticipation builds for the upcoming Mallala Superbike Championship weekend, all eyes are poised on Charles Holding, the current leader of the 2024 Superbike Championship, edging ahead by just a single point over his closest rival, Brad Raethel. Meanwhile, Michael Kemp remains a potent contender, trailing a mere 17 points behind Raethel. The burning question on everyone’s mind: will we witness a new Championship leader emerge from the thrilling battles of this weekend, or will Charles Holding continue to tighten his grip on the overall standings?

Turning our attention to the Supersport class, where the championship race remains tantalizingly open, the spotlight falls on current leader, Sam Pezzetta of Unitech Racing. With Charles Holding nipping at his heels, trailing by a mere 3 points, Pezzetta faces the challenge of maintaining his lead. With just 29 points separating the top contender from sixth place, the Mallala circuit is primed for a potential shakeup of the leaderboard. Keep a keen eye on contenders like Ryder Gilbert, newcomer Callum Morrison, and Mitch Radford, as they inject an extra dose of excitement into the competition.

In the realm of the Supersport 300 Championship, Ghage Plowman returns to defend his lead with a slender 18-point advantage over the burgeoning talent of Ryder Gilbert. Alongside Plowman, stalwarts of the SS300 class, including Jordan Simpson and Cooper Pitt, prepare to show off their skills on the track. Adding to the intrigue is the return of “Tornado” Tara Morrison, making a comeback to the SA Championship start grid after recovering from an injury sustained in SA’s Road Race Championship Round 1. With recent appearances in the ASBK Championships and the Pirelli Motul Victorian Road Racing Championship under her belt, Morrison appears poised to challenge the frontrunners and inject fresh energy into the competition.

Meanwhile, the junior riders return to showcase the future of SA road race talent. With current Championship leader Judd Plaisted absent from this round, Ethan Dellow seizes the opportunity to narrow the 27-point gap. However, the competitive landscape intensifies with the return of Seth Dellow and Ghage Plowman, promising a fierce battle for supremacy in round 3 at Mallala.

With practice kicking off Friday, the Mallala Canteen will be stocked for a full weekend so don’t worry about cooking lunch. There will be plenty of on-site convenient parking and great viewing of the weekend’s racing action across the spectator hill.

Preview – Gawler Motorcycle Centre 2024 SART Championship Round 2 Keyneton Gears Up For The Mike Connors Trial

As the SA Reliability Trials Championship continues its thrilling 2024 season, the Mike Connors Trial is set to return to Keyneton on Saturday, May 25th. Building on the excitement from the highly successful Phillip Haydon Trial, which saw registrations close early due to hitting maximum capacity, the Mike Connors Trial is looking to be a huge day for riders and spectators. 

Returning for 2024, Riders will start at Keyneton Oval before they head over the hills towards the Barossa. With the lack of rain coming into the event, competitors will be kept on their toes through dust and loam as they face off the 2-lap format, riding for about 6 – 8 hours.

Feeling a bit of déjà vu? Entries hit capacity and closed early as 208 competitors gear up to take on the course for 2024. Following an exceptional round 1, the Reliability Trials have truly bounced back from the lull caused by COVID-19.

This weekend, all eyes will be on Nick Throup, the current 2024 Expert Solo Champion and winner of round 1. Nick aims to solidify his lead in the points standings, leveraging the absence of his closest competitor and brother, Tristan Throup, who secured the runner-up position in the first round but won’t be competing this weekend. Current third-place Expert Open rider Samuel Nenasheff is set to join the stacked field and challenge Nicholas. Coming off last weekend’s AORC wins, Rowan Pumpa will also be looking to close the Championship lead gap.

The competition is set to heat up in the Sidecar field as the top three teams—Bradley Hunter/Bradley Manuel, Shane Schiller/Steven Doecke, and Shane Beckmann/Adam Brook—are all back for a round two rematch. After an unfortunate premature exit in round one, the 2023 Sidecar Champion team of Max Hutchesson and Sam Hutchesson will be eager to get their 2024 Championship back on track.

Adding to all the excitement, round 1 class heavy hitters set to take on this weekend include Jake Henderson in ‘Clubman Open 2-Stroke,’ Noah Riebke in ‘Clubman Up to 405cc 4-Stroke,’ and Tyson Schumacher in ‘406cc & Over Four Stroke.’ Coming off her round 1 Ladies All Powers win, Chloe Barton is fired up to make it 2 for 2, but with exceptionally fast ladies joining her, this weekend could be anyone’s to take.

Returning to the Barossa District, Keyneton remains a fan favourite round for families of all ages to enjoy South Australia’s reliability trial talents. This year, the event will kick off at the Keyneton Oval, where all the main information and control start will be located. The Keyneton Progress Association will be on hand, offering a variety of hot food and cold drinks, while a coffee van ensures riders and spectators are energized for a full day of action.

Preview – 2024 SAMX Championship Round 2 – Rivalries Set To Light Up At Riverland Junior Motorcycle Club

After an edge-of-the-seat Championship opener, this weekend sees the SA Motocross Championship heat up with on-track rivalries at Riverland Junior Motorcycle Club for round 2.

As the late entries deadline has just closed and the final countdown for gate drop is well underway, Round 2 promises to be an absolute treat for SA motocross fans. With 215 riders and a huge 260 bikes across the classes at Renmark, we are sure to see some new Championship front-runners.

With the top 3 Championship points leaders in Pro MX1 not lining up this weekend, 2024’s King of the Gulf and current 4th-place holder, Siegah Ward, is looking to make his move and solidify his name as a frontrunner in the Championship. He will, of course, be joined by SAMX regulars Mitch Norris, Levi McManus, and the Carpenter Brothers, Seth and Mitch, all looking to secure those crucial Championship points.

Continuing their round 1 showdown, 2023’s MX Women’s Champion Amy Bartsch is still in the Championship fight, trailing by just 2 points behind current second-place Emma Haylock. The front-runner, Charli, misses this round. Can she close that gap even further, or will we see a new senior women’s champion crowned?

Not to mention a stacked field of Experts and Clubmen featuring the current Expert Championship leader Aaron Van Zetton and Clubman Cody Harrison, both eager to continue their points lead. With over 20 riders in each field, this weekend will keep them on their toes with plenty of challengers emerging.

This weekend is all set to provide a perfect insight into the exceptional level of riding coming from our future stars in the sport, with over 170 junior riders taking to the track, including a stack of riders beginning their journey in the sport in the 50cc Demo (non-competitive) field.

Determined to continue her round 1 streak of successes, Emily Lambert is back this weekend in the Great Southern Security 100cc to 150cc 2-stroke and 200cc to 250cc 4-stroke Girls class, with last year’s Champion Charlize Waldhuter looking for any chance to take over the overall lead.

With SAMX young gun regulars including current leaderboard talents like Jayke Hansen, Dylan Gromball, Lacey Thompson, Mason Ezergailis, Koby Smart, and Oliver Thredgold taking on SA and Australia’s top junior fields, it’s going to be an edge-of-the-seat showdown for points leads.

Situated just outside the picturesque Riverland region, and adjacent to Renmark, there’s no better excuse to make the trip down for the weekend to experience everything the region has to offer and witness SA’s best motocross talent continue their Championship rivalries.

PROVISIONAL RESULTS – 2024 SA RELIABILITY TRIALS CHAMPIONSHIPS ROUND 1 COMES DOWN TO THE LINE AT TARLEE

Last Saturday, May 4th, the town of Tarlee came alive with the buzz of reliability trials once again for 2024 as Championship Round 1, The Phillip Haydon Trial, proudly presented by the Gawler MCC, kicked off. Fans settled in for a full day of competition as a great turnout of past and new emerging reliability trial talent took on the dry, dusty conditions of the day and night 6-hour format, with a course fully designed to keep racers on their toes. 

Showing they haven’t slowed down in their time away from reliability trials competitions, brothers Nicholas and Tristan Throup took the early lead at the end of lap 1, with Nicholas gaining the slight 81-second edge over the tight competition of Tristan, Samuel Nenasheff, 2023 outright Champion Rowan Pumpa, and runner-up Clinton Voigt. Even with Tristan narrowing down an 11-second gap after lap 2, the hard work had already been done to crown Nicholas as the open solo and outright round 1 Championship winner. Rounding out third place, Samuel Nenasheff held off Rowan Pumpa in 4th by just a gap of 5 seconds.

It was a tough start to the Sidecars Round 1 Championship for defending champions Max Hutchesson & Sam Hutchesson when they blew a head gasket on the opening lap, putting a premature end to their Round 1 endeavours. This left the powerhouse duo of Bradley Hunter/Bradley Manuel to put in the work and get a leg up to take the Sidecar win ahead of Shane Schiller & Steven Doecke. The competition between second and third places would be fierce and come down to the final lap of the day to decide. With a gap of just 26 seconds at the halfway point after lap 1, Shane Schiller & Steven Doecke put in the hard yards to establish a 1:23 buffer between them.

Round 2 of the SA Reliability Trials Championship comes to the Barossa Valley on the 25th of May as Keyneton MCC proudly presents the Mike Connors Trial. As Championship leaders have made a firm stand, the competition is only going to heat up.

Results – 2024 SA Road Racing Championships Round 2 Bring The Easter Treats To Mac Park

Round 2 of the SA Road Race Championships, featuring the traditional Easter Cup and Oz Bears Championship opener, was run and won last weekend at Mac Park, presented by the Mount Gambier Motorcycle Club. Tarmac racing fans, young and old, made the traditional long weekend road trip to be trackside for a full weekend of action and were certainly not disappointed.

Saturday saw the weekend kick off with exceptionally tight racing, gearing crowds up for a huge weekend ahead, and despite the Sunday race program experiencing a delay due to heavy fog early on, crowds braved it out to witness the schedule getting back underway and the racing heating back up as last-minute points dashes finished the weekend. As the class results tightened up and new leaders emerged, let’s take a look at some of the weekend highlights before we get onto the round results –

Heating up the SA Superbike Championship class, Brad Raethel and Charles Holding kept crowds guessing who could take the round overall as they played musical chairs with podium first and second throughout the weekend races. Raethel ended up with the upper hand, taking both the Championship round overall win and Easter Cup ahead of Charles Holding.  He now trails Holding on the Championship table by just one point.

We now have a new Supersport 600 Championship leader after holding his own in some pretty heated top 5 position battles. Unitech Racing’s Sam Pezzetta progressed from a 5th and 4th over his first 2 races to claiming his first SS600 race win in race 3, giving him the round win for the weekend, and now sits 3 points ahead of Ryder Gilbert.

Claiming his first SS600 Championship podium with 2nd in race 3, Championship newcomer & current 4th place overall, Callum Morrison showed that he will be one to challenge the leaderboard if he can keep this momentum firing.

Declan Carberry showed off what a Honda 450 Motard can do, and after borrowing it for the weekend, he took it right to the top step of the Lightweight Easter Cup with a convincing 30-second win over 10 laps in front of Ghage Plowman. He also doubled up to secure second place in the Limited Championship class after a back-and-forth tit-for-tat battle with the round winner, Kev (Anthony) Stephens.

Increasing his Junior Championship lead with a clean sweep of wins, Judd Plaisted is showing he is a force to be reckoned with and will give plenty of senior riders a run for their money in the near future. Keeping himself busy over the weekend, he not only broke the Junior Class lap record of 1:24.750 set by Rikki Henry in 2022 with a flying 1:24.457 in race 1. He then went on to break his own record-setting the bar even lower with a 1:23.692 in the third Juniors race.

In the end, Judd charged on to claim both the Junior Easter Cup and the Junior Championship round 2 win ahead of brothers Seth and Ethan Dellow. All eyes are firmly set on Judd to see if he can continue his top-step run for a perfect 2024.

Riders and teams can enjoy a well-earned short break before the Championship Round 3 moves to the Mallala Motorsport Park for the first time this year over the 24th to the 26th of May with CAFNIX. Entries are currently open through Ridernet with entries closing on the 15th of May and final late entries locking off on the 18th of May 2024.
