Fog Couldn’t Stop the Racing Spirit at Renmark
Saturday 18 July 2026 | Renmark, South Australia
Dense fog delayed the start of Round 2 of the 2026 Banks Race Development South Australian Motocross Championship at Renmark, but once conditions improved, riders and officials made the most of the day, showcasing the resilience, professionalism and spirit of South Australia’s motocross community.
The opening day of Round 2 of the 2026 Banks Race Development South Australian Motocross Championship at Renmark presented an unexpected challenge, with dense morning fog delaying the commencement of racing until visibility across the track reached a safe level.
While the delay was disappointing for competitors eager to hit the track, the patience, understanding and professionalism shown by riders, parents, mechanics, officials, volunteers and spectators was nothing short of outstanding.
Motorcycling South Australia extends its sincere thanks to everyone for their cooperation throughout the morning. The safety of all participants remains the organisation’s highest priority, and officials continued to monitor and assess conditions before making the decision to commence racing once visibility met the required standard for safe competition.
Once the fog lifted, officials worked tirelessly to maximise the available racing time, allowing the majority of Saturday’s scheduled program to be completed. Their commitment, combined with the incredible support of the Riverland Junior Motorcycle Club, volunteers, recovery crew, medical team and event personnel, ensured the event continued to run smoothly despite the challenging start to the day.
The professionalism displayed by competitors across all classes, from the youngest 50cc riders through to the senior championship categories, was a true reflection of the strength and spirit of South Australian motocross. Despite the delayed start, the atmosphere throughout the pits remained positive, with families, teams and officials working together to support one another and make the most of the conditions.
Motorcycling South Australia State Manager Cilla Thomas praised the motocross community for their patience, cooperation and commitment throughout the day.
“Safety will always be our first priority, and while the delayed start was not what anyone had hoped for, the understanding and support shown by our riders, families, volunteers and officials was incredible,” Ms Thomas said.
“Once conditions improved, everyone worked together to make the most of the available time. We are extremely proud of the way our motocross community responded and continued to showcase the professionalism, resilience and sportsmanship that makes our sport so special.”
With similar weather conditions forecast for Sunday morning, officials will again assess conditions before racing begins. Every effort will be made to complete as much of the remaining program as possible while maintaining the highest standards of safety for competitors, officials and spectators.
Round 2 has already demonstrated the resilience and determination of the South Australian motocross community. Whatever the weather brings, competitors, officials, volunteers and supporters remain committed to delivering a safe, enjoyable and memorable conclusion to another exciting weekend of championship racing at Renmark.
Motorcycling South Australia looks forward to welcoming everyone back tomorrow and hopes for clearer skies as we conclude Round 2 of the 2026 Banks Race Development South Australian Motocross Championship.
