SOUTH AUSSIES RIDE, RACE, SWIM & SINK AT THE HATTAH ‘SWAMP’ RACE

July 8, 2019 Filed Under: Enduro, News, SAORC

SOUTH AUSSIES RIDE, RACE, SWIM & SINK AT THE HATTAH ‘SWAMP’ RACE!

The 2019 Penrite Hattah Desert Race looked more like the NT’s Kamfari Mud Run on the Sunday, as the heaven’s opened on the Senior Race and while it gave the region some much needed rain for the farmers – it could have held off for about 4 hours!

That said, the 100+ South Aussie strong contingent, like all events, had some tales of woe, some tales of ‘getting the job done’, and some tales of epic rides! Here are just a few of the tales to come out of this iconic Australian event in 2019.

Will Price took to the event like a duck to water and splashed his way to an awesome 15th outright and 2nd in the Under 19 Class, and finishing in front of some of Australia’s best off road and desert races, Broc Grabham and Jacob Smith to name a couple.

Will’s Kessner KTM teammate, Cooper Sheidow, also had a great result in finishing 5th (41st outright) in the Under 19 Class, and one of only 7 in the class to finish on the lead lap!

David Jongebloed also had a great run, finishing 2nd in the Veterans 35-44 Years Class, and one of only 2 in the class to finish on the lead lap.

In the Junior Big Wheel race, Jack Colbert had an outstanding run, finishing in the top 10 for 9th outright on the day, and 6th in class – an outstanding ride from Jack against many of the best in Australia!

In the Juniors, Charlie Milton was also looking good for a great finish when he ran out of fuel near the end and had to push home, but even with running dry he still managed an excellent 12th outright in the Big Wheel Junior Race and finished 8th in class!

Also having good runs in that class were Max Liebknecht, Mitchel Stanway and Kyan Haydon who finished 17th, 18th & 21st.

In the 100-150cc 2 stroke Class for the Big Wheels, Jack McLean rode to an excellent 6th place, with Alex Head right behind in 7th place, and with Aimee Butler leading home the SA girls with a 7th place in the 12-U16 Girls Class.

In the Small Wheels race there was an outstanding effort from the Gear brothers from Keith, with Davey finishing 4th outright and 4th in class, and younger brother, Ollie, finishing 10th outright and 2nd in his class – superb effort lads!

For a comprehensive look at all the results – outright and class, junior and senior – head to this link to see how all the south Aussies went! https://speedhive.mylaps.com/Events/1688910

& A COUPLE OF PROUD MUMS!

From Cassandra Liebknecht;

2017, he blew the bike on the first lap

2018 started in 59th position and finished

2019 started 18th position and finished 35th outright and 17th in class. So proud!

 2020?????

#hattah19 congrats again for an awesome event and the perfect weather

Maxwell Liebknecht you make us very proud, just remember the mind needs as much training as the body.

From Jen Verhees;

So proud of my boys getting Hattah 2019 done! Such an awesome event to be part of. Congratulations Tanner on finishing your first Desert Hattah Race. Couldn’t have been part of this event without your support/pit crew – Thanks guys! Tanner is very fortunate to have a great dad, Darren Verhees who made sure this could all happen

AND FROM THE HATTAH COMMITTEE;

The Hattah Committee would like to thank you all for attending the 2019 Penrite Hattah Desert Race powered by Optus.
The landowners, the volunteers, the riders, the pit crew, the families and the spectators – you made the 2019 race a memorable one.
This year’s race is certainly one for the history books for being the 2019 Hattah Swamp Race.
See you all in 2020!

And finally – we mentioned it was a tad damp on Sunday – and with photo credits to Motosport Mildura – here’s the proof, which includes a ‘dirty’ look at the camera from SA’s own Nick Leditschke (top 2 pics)

Motorcycling SA is proud to be supporting SA’s Alex Larwood, who is representing Australia at the World Junior Motocross Championships, over the weekend of 13 – 14th July, 2019 in Italy.

ALEX KRIEG JOINS THE KESSNER KTM OFF ROAD RACE TEAM AT WANBI!

June 24, 2019 Filed Under: Enduro, News, SAORC, State Championship

ALEX KRIEG JOINS THE KESSNER KTM OFF ROAD RACE TEAM AT WANBI!

Roger Kessner, from Kessner KTM Off Road Race Team, has put into place a 2019 initiative to help junior development in the Enduro/Off Road discipline this year by bringing in a junior rider under their team tent for a race weekend, so they can get the full experience of what it is like to be a part of a race team.

It is always fantastic when people / businesses invest in the future of their  specific sport, and this is what Roger and his team have done for many years, across many disciplines, and continue to do so – and in a way that not only highlights the future of the sport, but also some of the talented riders within!

A rider is invited to become part of the team for the whole of the weekend and receives the following;

  • Full access to the Kessner KTM Off Road Race Team trailer, as well as use of all of the team’s Motorex products
  • The rider and family receive support from team manager Scott Billing as well as guidance from team riders (track walk, mentoring, nutrition tips).
  • Suspension adjustments and bike set up from Grant Beale – Bike Tune. For this round Grant was available and he helped the whole team, he was out watching the team riders on a test and then would make relevant adjustments as needed.

The Kessner KTM Off Road Race Team has always prided itself on bringing a real family environment to the team, and they aim at developing riders to their full potential each year, as much as they aim at getting race wins each weekend.

The team is very supportive of its riders and team members and they also ensure that the fun factor always remains in the sport, and there are a lot of laughs and fun along the way.

The Junior rider who joined the team at Wanbi was: Alex Krieg

After having to calm the lad down after he was asked to join the team for the weekend – saying no was never an option apparently – Alex grabbed this opportunity with both hands – and didn’t want to let go, even after the event had ended!

Whilst this initiative is not ‘results driven’, to not put too much pressure on the young rider and keep the whole experience enjoyable, what was obvious to all who were watching closely was that the improvement from Alex as the weekend progressed was obvious to see.

And it wasn’t so much his speed that improved, as much as it was the smoothness in riding as the weekend progressed, which comes from bike set-up and thinking more about lines on the track walk, which he would have got from talking to the team mechanics, and the team riders.

And what did Alex think, well, here are a few questions that the team asked him after the event;

Congratulations and well done to Roger and the whole Kessner KTM Off Road Race Team for this great initiative!

The Kessner KTM Off Road Race Team aim to carry this initiative on throughout the remainder of the 2019 season.

Stay tuned for an announcement on who the lucky rider will be for the next SAORC rounds at TBA!

SOUTH AUSSIE RIDERS IN EUROPE!

SOUTH AUSSIE RIDERS IN EUROPE!

2 South Australian riders had mixed results over the weekend in Europe, with Brian Anthony climbing onto an International podium for the first time, with Brian and his rider, Joachim Reimann finishing 2nd overall at the German Championship round in Rennen over the weekend.

While this was happening Connor Hogan was having an improved ride at round 3 of the Trial2 World Championship in the Netherlands – in dry conditions and at a venue that was virtually all man made.

Here’s the round up – and as you can see, Brian is a man of many words!!

Trial GP Netherlands Qualifying 2019

(From Brenton Hogan) Connor in the Netherlands. Connor usually doesn’t worry about going too fast in Qualifying, just get the clean. He did go clean in Q2, unfortunately there were 29 other guys that went clean and faster! He qualified 30 out of 32 meaning he is 3rd rider away in T2. This isn’t a big deal though. Probably means less chance of getting caught up in queues and picking up time penalties.

Trial GP Netherlands 2019

(From Connor) Had a lot of fun riding the sections this weekend, they were far more enjoyable then the other rounds. I was fairly happy with my riding, my 1st lap wasn’t too bad but my last lap was well off the pace. Had a number of questionable observing decisions which cost me many points putting me in 27th by the end of the day. Had some really good rides but I was not consistent enough for them to make a difference.
