EVENT PREVIEW – 2023 SAMX ROUND 2 COMES ROARING TO THE RIVERLAND

Round 2 of the 2023 SA Motocross Championships continues the racing story, at the stunningly scenic Renmark in the Riverland at the Riverland Junior Motorcycle Club this coming weekend of the 20th and 21st of May.

Make sure you get to the Track early to secure the best seats in the house for an action-packed weekend. The Riverland Junior Motorcycle Club will be taking care of riders and spectators with their fully stocked canteen and also supplying the following for the weekend –

TOILETS: Toilets are available at the venue.

SHOWERS: Showers are in the Amenities Block at the Southern end of the pit area (Behind Finishing Tower).

RUBBISH: Bins have been provided around the venue, please ensure all rubbish is either placed in the bins provided or taken home with you.

CAMPING AREA: Is available from Friday at the track. For those camping at the track please ensure all rubbish is placed in the bins or taken home with you, do not leave rubbish at the venue.

NO Camping or Competitors to set up along start straight.

ALL Competitors, camping to be set up in designated Pit Areas adjacent to the highway and behind the club rooms/canteen area.

CAMPING COST: $20.00 CAMPING TO BE PAID IN GOOD FAITH AT THE CANTEEN ON SATURDAY/SUNDAY MORNING.

Entries have now closed with a fantastic lineup of 247 riders entered and a spectacular 303 bikes competing over the weekend. That’s right 56 riders hitting the track on different bikes racing multiple classes.

We are looking forward to seeing Amy Bartsch line up again to hopefully move up from her current 4th place Championship placing. She joins 9 other women in the chase for those valuable Championship points.

MX1 is looking to be a great mix of riders with plenty of interstate competitors including NSW Blake Fox lining up to take on our South Aussie contingent. We can’t wait to see who will stand tall at the end of the weekend and take home the 2023 SA Motocross Championship, Round 2 win.

SA’s Denzel Woulfe is rearing to go and aiming to take the number one spot away from Victoria’s Liam Dinnage ahead of a fast weekend racing Expert All Powers. Only time will 20 other riders chasing that number one spot.

Showing that the future of the sport is strong we have a line up of 25, 85cc 2/ & 150cc 4/ (9-u12yrs) and 29, 85cc 2/ & 150cc 4/ (12-u16yrs) racers entered- How good!!

Clubman All powers is going to be a spectacular class to watch with 48 riders lined up to battle it out over the weekend.

All in all the entry list is packed with talent and fast names for a massive weekend of racing.

Where:

The SAMX Championship comes roaring into the beautiful Riverland to put on a show at the Riverland Junior Motorcycle Club. The club is located at 19695 Sturt Hwy, Renmark, SA, Australia, 5341 and with all the fantastic work going into both the track and spectator viewing locations around the track, it’s going to be a show not to miss.

RESULTS – 2023 SA RELIABILITY CHAMPIONSHIPS ROUND 1 – MARRABEL BRINGS THE PHILLIP HAYDON TRIAL TO LIFE AGAIN for 2023

Last Saturday, May 6th saw the start horn sound on a new series of the South Australian Reliability Championships (SART) for 2023, with beautiful Marrabel welcoming the first round. Continuing the long-standing tradition of Gawler MCC opened the SART Championships with the Phillip Haydon Trial as Round 1.

Round 1 gave riders and spectators a taste of everything throughout a fantastic course, challenging competitors over 2 laps, with around 6 hours of racing in a day/night format. On top of spectators enjoying exceptional viewing vantage points, the delicious egg and bacon rolls, hot chips, sausages, burgers, sandwiches & cakes were exceptionally popular, even after a mercy dash to Kapunda couldn’t help keep the food on the tables long enough, before selling out. This combined with a bar stocked bar and cold drinks flowing, was a weekend enjoyed by the crowds of spectators.

With spectators crowding in to see all the action, they certainly didn’t leave disappointed after nail-biting tight racing and photo finishes into the night. Congratulations to Rowan Pumpa for taking out the A-class – Expert Solo – Unlimited by a mere 1-second gap in front of the race leader, Jayden Rudd after he experienced issues on the last lap.

After an exceptional ride, the combo team of Shane Schiller / Brian Anthony put in a cracking effort being both the first sidecar across the line and putting down a time to be 13th outright – Well done guys!! Kudos to Max Hutchesson / Sam Hutchesson for being the only other sidecar duo to finish in the outright top 2o -Congratulations.

Provisional open solo and sidecar results are below, with details and results by class available on the SART website here. (Note competitors have until midnight on Sunday, May 14 to challenge or query any results.)

Round 2 of the 2023 SART Championship action continues on the 27th of May in Keyneton with The Mike Connors Reliability Trial presented by the Keyneton MCC. Put it in your calendar now and make sure you are there as the 2023 Championship story continues.

PRESS RELEASE – THE PHILLIP HAYDON TRIAL GREEN LIGHTS RELIABILITY TRIAL ACTION FOR 2023

This coming weekend of the 6th of May sees the 2023 SA Reliability Championships kick off with round one, the Phillip Haydon Trial, presented by the Gawler MCC. Coming to the beautiful town of Marrabel, we are so excited for an exceptional year of reliability trial racing ahead.

With 150 riders entered, it’s looking to be a huge round 1 of racing and we can’t wait to see who is taking the early lead for the Championships. Round 1 will be testing riders with a Day/Night format of 2 laps and approximately 6 hours in total duration.

It’s going to be a great day for all members of the family with plenty of food catering available including Egg and Bacon rolls, Hot Chips, Sausages & Burgers, Sandwiches & Cakes, Cold Drinks – soft drinks, water, sports drinks. Tea, coffee, milo. chocolate. With all proceeds going to community groups, there’s no excuse to have that extra sweet.

Best of all for the adults, there will be a licensed bar also available for some cheeky reds or cold beers whilst you enjoy watching all the action.

2022 runner up Clinton Voigt is back with sights set on claiming the title for 2023 but as we all know in reliability trials, anything can happen and there is tough field of riders all looking to take that win. Joining the field of sidecar racers we have the 2022 SART Sidecar Championship outright winners Shane Beckman and Adam Brook back for another year – will they make it back to back Championships?

Where:

What better location to kick off this year’s reliability trials action, than the Marrabel Rodeo Grounds (Google Map here). A fan favorite with both riders and spectators the course is looking the goods to provide exciting, challenging reliability trial action.

When:

It’s always best to get in early with rider sign on for the day starting at 9:00am and open till 12pm. Rider briefing is scheduled for 12:00pm and first bikes will leave the start line at 1:01pm. – Get your family and friends all together to be trackside for a great day and night.

Guaranteed a fan favorite the last section of the trial located in the rodeo grounds and ending in the main arena is sure to provide fantastic viewing opportunities to spectators and conveniently close to the food and drinks.

If you wish to see the riders on some of the sections of the course, that’s completely fine to follow these directions to safely access spectator-friendly areas.

PLEASE DO NOT FOLLOW RIDERS ON THE MARKED COURSE ON THE ROADS.

Spectator location 1.
• Turn left on to main road from the car park.
• Turn right onto Tarnma Road
• Competitors will also be using this road. Please use care and allow bikes a safe passage.
• travel 5km, spectating in the section on left.

Spectator location 2.
• To get to the second spectating area return to Main Marrabel / Kapunda Road.
• Turn right and continue north for 9km and continue north for 9km and turn right onto Steelton Road for 2.3 km.
• Please keep clear of fuel area exit gate.

All Competitors are required to complete a SELF-SCRUTINEERING FORM (included in the Competitor Info) which must be filled in and brought to sign on.

Detour on Thiele Highway via Eudunda from Kapunda
It is advised to travel via the Barrier Hwy A32 to Saddleworth and B84 to Marrabel.
Please allow for this detour.

PRESS RELEASE – SAMX KICKS OFF FOR A MASSIVE 2023

The dreary weather couldn’t hold off the fast-paced racing action heating up on the track, as SAMX Round 1 kicked off over the weekend of 29th and 30th April 2023. Motocross Riders Association hosted the packed event at the Gillman MX track and boy did they put on a great show. With work well underway for the upcoming Round 5 of the PROMX on the 28th of April, MRA wanted to ensure this was a perfect preview into the exceptional racing ahead.

From the get-go, entries were strong and in the end, we had the pleasure of seeing 257 riders start their Championship series battle over the weekend with 12 future stars of our sport also, getting out in front of the crowds to ride the 50cc Demo 4 class. With racing for round 1 being this tight, we can only imagine the points battles in store for us ahead. So far we have seen old champions return and go head to head with new points leaders and potential 2023 champions stepping up.

EVENT PREVIEW – SAMX ROUND 1 – MRA KICKS OFF A HUGE 2023 CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES

Only one sleep to go until the 2023 SA MX Championship season kicks off and we couldn’t be more excited. Gillman Motocross track is all prepped and set for a massive 2 days of racing, presented by Motocross Riders Association. The crew at MRA have worked overtime to ensure the track and facilities are up to their usual exceptional level with this weekend being a great preview to Round 5 of the 2023 ProMX, scheduled for the 28th May 2023.

There’s no better show in town this weekend with free entry for spectators to catch all the action.

Also, check out the MRA’s awesome canteen – with hot & cold food and drinks all weekend as well!

2023’s Championship season is off to an exceptionally strong start with 258 competitors from all over Australia, lining up, to give it their all for the top spot and the valuable early lead.

Pro MX 1 see’s 2022 Champion Brett Metcalf, go up against an exceptionally stacked field. Will 2022 SAMX runner up Siegah Ward make 2023 his year to take the title or will one of the interstate competitors take Round 1 Championships win home with them?

Pro MX 2 has a great mix of South Aussies going up against tough competitors from NSW, VIC, QLD and even WA. After a huge 2023 win and a great off-season, Mitch Norris is looking to continue the success through the 2023 Championship Season. Will he keep it together?

This weekend sees a great lineup of competitors for the Butlers Mechanical Service Women’s All Powers. 2022’s Champion Amy Bartsch and reigning 2023 SignSational SA Women’s Cup winner, has her sights set on continuing the winning run through 2023. Only problem is…there are 14 other women looking for a chance to break the winning streak.

Joining the action throughout the weekend, we have 12 of the future stars of our sport riding the 50cc Demo 4 – Under 9 years. One definitely not to be missed.

These combined with a huge field of age classes are making sure 2023’s Round 1 SAMX Championships is bigger and better than ever. We can’t wait!!

RESULTS – AORC ROUNDS 3 AND 4 – SA CONTINUES THE CHAMPIONSHIP CHARGE

Queensland Moto Park (QMP) came to life for Rounds 3 and 4 of the 2023 Yamaha Australian Off-Road Championship presented by MXstore (AORC), with riders rolling in and anticipation mounting of who can get it done for the weekend the feeling in the air was electric. SA was there in force and boy did we bring it!!

14 South Aussies made the trip over to continue their championship hopes for the season. Still sitting on cloud nine after being selected by the ShopYamaha Off-Road Racing Team to replace the injured Kyron Bacon, Cooper Sheidow showed what he was made of right from the get-go. Sitting sixth outright for Round 3 (Saturday) and finishing Second for E1, he was able to hold off ex-pat Will Price, who settled for third. Showing nothing but consistency, he finished Sunday’s Round 4 again second in E1 with a seventh outright time. Will Price couldn’t quite get the upper hand on Cooper who again stood third on the podium.

Rowan Pumpa started the weekend on a heater, leading the Veterans class, with a first-place finish. Unfortunately, after some really tight racing, he had to settle for a second-place finish for Round 4 behind NSW Christopher Thomas.

Round 3 saw our South Aussies top the first 2 steps of the Masters podium with Leigh Bentley taking out the category first, followed closely by Peter Rudd. Keeping his flow going into Round 4 Leigh kept the top sport going with another podium first, however unfortunately Peter had a day he would rather forget, finishing ninth.

Continuing the journey of bringing home another back-to-back championship, Ollie Gear really let his riding do the talking, taking out a clean sweep of first-place wins for Rounds 3 and 4 in the J3 class, but also topping the leaderboard in first place both days overall…Well done lad!!

After being pipped for a podium in Round 3 by NSW Kai Austin and settling for forth in J2, Harry Gilbertson put his head down and fought through, passing Kai and taking the third place finish for Round 4. We’re looking forward to plenty of battles ahead between these two.

Plenty of our South Australian contingent came through with top 10 finishes including:

Max Midwinter (EJ), Forth place round 3 and 4.

Luke Bunnik (E3), Sixth Round 3 and fifth Round 4

Davey Gear (J4), Fifth place Round 3 and sixth place Round 4

Levi Rossi (J1), Fourth place Round 3 and Fifth place Round 4.
