SOUTH AUSSIES MAKE A STATEMENT IN THE 2023 FIM MINI GP

The FIM Mini GP Australia Series kicked off its inaugural year in 2022 and is shaping up to be a crucial tool for the selected junior riders to pursue their dreams of racing at the highest level in the Moto GP. In 2022, the competition bar was set extremely high, but as time would tell, that was just a taste of the racing that would take it to the next level in 2023. This year saw up to 14 talented budding Australian riders and one Kiwi joining the circuit, all with their sights set on the top prize and taking that crucial next step in their racing careers. Best of all, two of our South Aussies joined the journey, with one of our future legends claiming the Series top honours in the 160cc class for 2023.

From the get-go, Rikki Henry put his head down and showed what he was made of, making a regular appearance on the podium, even at times sharing it with fellow South Aussie Judd Plaisted and even taking the top spot more than once this series.

Starting off with a 5th place finish in race one, round one, Rikki turned up the talent to fight through the pack and bring home a second-place finish in race two to start his series in second place overall. Taking to the track in Newcastle, NSW, the stars started to align for Henry. Taking control of the race, he went on to hold off Queenslanders Hunter Corney and Jake Paige throughout both races to secure an epic first-place finish for both races and took over the Series overall lead for the 160cc class.

Round three saw the series head to Ipswich, QLD, with our South Aussies representing at the highest level. Rikki continued to ride extremely competitively, unfortunately missing out on the podium in race one but coming back to charge through the field (including passing 2 riders on the last lap) to share the podium in second place for an extremely special moment with Judd Plaisted, who had been on fire all week in first.

Returning home to Adelaide for the second-to-last round at the Monarto Go Kart Club Track, Judd Plaisted pulled together a clean weekend, taking the overall round wins with firsts in both races. Putting Plaisted and Henry in good company, Archie Schmidt joined the round as a wildcard entry and proved to be good company to add a twist to the already formed on-track rivalries of the Championship. Putting down some exceptionally strong riding and showing nothing but consistency at the front of the pack with countless battles happening between himself, Plaisted, Paige, and Schmidt, Rikki would walk away from the weekend with second place overall and a 12-point lead going into the MiniGP 160 series finals at Oakleigh, VIC.

Looking cool, calm, and collected, Rikki let his riding do all the talking and made short work of taking the pole by almost half a second in front of Hunter Corney. Tensions were tight at the front for race one, with Rikki narrowly missing the top position behind Cooper Horne by just 0.164 seconds. Judd Plaisted would round out the podium in third place, posting a new race lap record of 44.784 seconds. Henry then went on to win the second race ahead of Jake Paige by 0.546 seconds. This would not only be his second-round win but also secured the series win with a 24-point lead over Jake Paige.

Judd Plaisted would round out the FIM Mini GP SA campaign with a 4th place finish in round five and 4th place in the Series overall.

After an extremely well-earned Series win, Rikki has earned a life-changing opportunity to head over and race in the MiniGP World Series at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo Valencia, against the world’s best in November.

Rikki was quoted as saying, “I’ve got a lot of mixed emotions right now,” the 14-year-old said. “I’m just so happy to have won the series, and now I’m even more excited, knowing I get to go to Valencia to race against the world’s best in November. It’s something I’ll remember for a long time, that’s for sure.”

EVENT PREVIEW – THE BERYL PEARCE RELIABILITY TRIAL WAVES THE CHEQUERED FLAG FOR THE 2023 CHAMPIONSHIPS

After a fantastic 2023 Reliability Trial Championship that felt like it all just started yesterday, the Clare MCC will present The Beryl Pearce Reliability Trial and officially wave the checkered flag on the 2023 SA Reliability Trials Championships this coming Saturday the 23rd of September.

After unfortunately not being able to go ahead in 2022 due to weather, all lights are green for this weekend and we couldn’t think of a better way to finish such an action-packed year. To decide the final positions on the Championship points table, the Beryl Pearce Reliability Trial will be a full daytime format of 2 laps and around 6 hours of bike time to bring it all home. Don’t miss out and have to wait till 2024…BE THERE!!

Entry List:

A stacked field of 106 riders are all set to take to the circuit for the last time this year and we couldn’t be more excited. Returning with a 30-point lead for Outright Solo and the pressure off his shoulders, Rowan Pumpa will start his final championship round at 10:31 am from Main Control. With second place still up for contention, Clinton Voigt will be doing everything he can to keep the 17-point lead, ahead of the current Championship third place, Adam Wright.

After their round 5 win, the dynamic duo Max Hutchesson and Sam Hutchesson sit 1 point behind Sidecar Outright Championship leaders Shaun Buckley and Brett Harding. Only time will tell, who has all the right moves at Clare to take the top spot for the Championship outright Sidecar and who will have to settle for second place. Third-place team Ross Watson / Cooper Winter will still be feeling the heat coming into the weekend with current Championship fifth-place overall sidecar team Zak Smith / Brendon Noble sitting just 7 points behind. With current Sidecar outright fourth place team Daniel Plowman and Bradley Brook not taking to the course this weekend, this could be the perfect chance for Zak and Brendan to put the pressure on them to take over the podium third place for 2023 – Only time will tell!!

This year’s Main Control has a fresh backdrop in the Clare Showgrounds Club Rooms and not in the pavilion as in previous years. Most importantly spectators, riders, family and friends can all come together for hot food and cold drinks behind the clubhouse.

With perfect weather conditions on the horizon for the upcoming final Reliability Trial of 2023, there’s no better excuse to make the trip out to the Mid-North and take in everything Clare has to offer whilst you see all the final points dashes of the 2023 SA Reliability Trial Championships.

Competition Information:

Welcoming riders and spectators will be a picturesque challenging course spanning across the region and with the dry conditions coming up to the event, you can bet there will be plenty of dry, dusty unpredictable corners to catch out unsuspecting riders and add some spice to the day. Maps to all the perfect spectator spots will be available at Main Control, so head there first get all stocked up on food and work out where you’re going to cheer on your favourite rider for the last time in 2023.

With riders briefing scheduled for 9:30 am and the first rider leaving main control at 10:01 am, better save the sleep-in for Sunday and get trackside early for a full day of Reliability Trial competition.

RESULTS – 2023 SA MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIPS ROUND 4

Last weekend saw the exciting fourth and final round of the 2023 SA Motocross Championships run and won with the Motocross Riders Association. Feeling a bit of déjà vu from the round 1 battles, riders returned to Gillman from all corners of SA to claim the last crucial points and cement placings on the 2023 Championship table.

EVENT PREVIEW – GATES DROP ONE LAST TIME AT MRA FOR THE 2023 SA MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIPS FINALE

Taking a final bow, the 2023 SA Motocross Championships returns back to where it all started at Gillman with the Motocross Riders Association this coming 9th and 10th of September. With the Championship yet to be decided and very little between many of the class leaders, this final weekend of competitions is going to be filled with bar-to-bar racing right down to the line. 

If you’re somehow still undecided… entry over the weekend is free for spectators so round up all the kids and come down to the MRA to see the SA Motocross Championships for the last time in 2023. Don’t fret if you forget your lunch either, the MRA team has you completely covered with a fully stocked canteen dishing out hot food and cold drinks all day.

Entry List:

Just shy of 200 riders will be lining up for the final time in this years Motocross Championships with still plenty of opportunity throughout the weekend to replace points leaders and see overall Championships stolen away. 

Joining the masses of juniors lining up this weekend in the 13-U16 125cc class, points leader Wil Carpenter is back to continue the 2023 Championship charge, but with only a 27 point gap to Jayke Hansen, he can’t afford to relax for a second.

Don’t miss seeing the points table change in the 150cc/250cc 13-U16Yrs Girls with Amelia Gwiazda unfortunately out injured. This opens up the opportunity of Charlize Waldhuter to close the 6 points gap to take over control of the Championship class. This however is certainly not set in stone with Lexy Hayes lining up as a contender for the 2023 150cc/250cc 13-U16YRS Girls Championship. 

With 23 riders set to put on a show in the Junior Lites 250cc 13-U16Yrs class, you are going to want to make sure to keep an eye out for all the Championship battles set to go down. Can Clayton Bogucki make up the 39 point gap on Will Carpenter or will third place points holder Jackson Rossi get the round win?? Only time will tell.

Still on a high after taking a 7th overall in the Aus Pro MX – Women’s MX and determined to hold onto the SAMX Butlers Mechanical Service Women’s All Powers lead, Amy Bartsch will take to the track again this weekend. She will need to keep her head on a swivel though with Great Southern Security and Butlers Mechanical team rider Emma Haylock looking for any opportunity to close the Championship 21 points gap. 

Turning the speed up to level 10, current Pro MX1 Championship leader, Brett Metcalfe is back this weekend with current third place contender Levi McManus lining right up next to him. With Siegah Ward out injured from a crash in the ProMX round 8, Levi will be doing everything he can to hold off the field and close the points gap.

PROVISIONAL RESULTS – 2023 SART CHAMPIONSHIPS ROUND 5: THE RIVER MURRAY RELIABILITY TRIAL

Round 5 of the SA Reliability Trials Championships – The River Murray Trial kicked off last Saturday the 2nd of September through Palmer district. The SAPMAC Motorcycle Club put in the hard yards and hosted an exceptional event, bringing the finish of the SA Reliability 2023 Championship season even closer.

Continuing his 2023 SA Reliability Trials Championship dominance, Rowan Pumpa put down a solid day on the bike to take the provisional overall Open Solo win ahead of Clinton Voight by 1 minute and 8 seconds. The fight for second and third place was exceptionally closer with Jesse Lange coming out of the gates strong on the first lap finishing 5 seconds ahead of Clinton going into lap 2. Clinton found the answer and came back to regain second place after lap 2 by a mere 2 seconds ahead of Jesse Lange, who settled for third.

With the course whittling down 20-weekend starters to 15 sidecar teams making the finish, it was the dynamic brother duo of Max Hutchesson and Sam Hutchesson who had all the right moves to take the provisional top spot in Open Sidecar and finish with a cracking time to finish 32nd overall for the round. Current points leaders Shaun Buckley and Brett Harding took second place and Bradley Manuel / Bradley Brook in third. This now tightens the Open Sidecar points table right up. If nothing changes in the top provisional results for this round, Shaun Buckley and Brett Harding will go into the final round 6 with a single-point lead ahead of Max Hutchesson and Sam Hutchesson, who have now been moved into second.

The sixth and final round of the 2023 SA Reliability Trials Championships all comes together at Clare for the Beryl Pearse Trial on Saturday the 23rd of September. This daytime, 2-lap format is the last chance for riders to lock away valuable points and after a season of unexpected twists, upset losses and fairy-tale finishers, one thing is for certain… the Clare MCC is guaranteed to bring the 2023 Reliability Trial Championship home with a BANG!!

Event Preview: Points Gaps Tighten Ahead Of The 2023 River Murray Reliability Trial

The 2023 River Murray Reliability Trial presented by the SAPMAC Motorcycle Club will take off this Saturday through the Palmer district and is already shaping up to be a fantastic lead into the finish line of the 2023 SART Championship. Already showing to be a popular event and with the limited sunshine, entries hit capacity and closed early. Over 110 riders will be lining up to take on the full-day riding format of 2 laps and over 6 hours of bike time throughout a challenging dusty course. With points gaps closing quickly and this being the second to last Championship round for the year, riders will be pulling out all the stops and taking every opportunity to get a leg up on the competition before the 2023 SART finale. 

Entry List:

Continuing to lead the Open Solo 2023 SART Championships points table, Rowan Pumpa is all set to take to the course and continue his already confident 2023 Championship lead. After a 7th place finish in the Gil Harris Reliability Trial, Clinton Voigt will be looking to redeem some points this weekend to stay in the running to keep the overall P2 position 2023 SART Championship outright Open Solo.

This weekend is going to set the 2023 SART Sidecar overall points table alight with dynamic duo Shaun Buckley and Brett Harding coming into the round with a mere 4-point lead, ahead of teams Daniel Plowman / Bradley Brook and Max Hutchesson / Sam Hutchesson, who are both tied on 60 points.
Ross Watson and Cooper Winter still have time to close the 6 point gap to make it into the top 3 position. The question on everyone’s lips is, can they get it done with 2 rounds to go??

Where:

The event Main Control is all set up at Palmer Oval (Collier Park) Randall Rd, Palmer – (Plan your trip HERE). Unfortunately due to the limited parking on the oval, we are asking all spectators to park on the road outside of the oval and make the short walk in to enjoy all the food, drink and reliability trials atmosphere on the oval.

An important reminder to everyone on a motorcycle or sidecar that helmets must be worn at all times riding around the oval.

Competition Information:

The place to see all the action will be the main control (address above) as unfortunately due to restrictions, there will be NO ACCESS TO COMPETITION SECTIONS for the public. Only Control Officials and riders are permitted to enter any property that the trial runs on.

Spectators and riders will be well fed with Collier Park Management taking care of all the catering, however, there will be no bar facilities at this Reliability Trials event. 

Following the landowner’s wishes and the permit rules through MSA, unfortunately, dogs are NOT permitted at this event, with the exception of service animals accepted.
