NEWS – MSA SPORTS MANAGER APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN

Nominations are now open for a number of Sports Manager positions, across a number of disciplines at Motorcycling South Australia.

Open from 9:00am today Thursday September 1 2022, through to 5:00pm Wednesday November 30 2022, nominations will be reviewed by the MSA Board of Directors for consideration with all decisions/appointments to be finalised on Tuesday December 6. Appointments will be made official at the Sports Manager’s meeting on Thursday December 6.

All nominees should take into account
– All Sports Manager positions are a volunteer position
– The term for each discipline is 2 years
– Sports Managers meet on a quarterly basis at MSA Hall (251 The Parade, Beulah Park – or via Microsoft Teams) to discuss the sport as a whole and work together on a number of issues (e.g. sport development and the annual calendar of events).
– Sports Managers are NOT required to attend every event in their discipline

The current Sports Managers guidelines are available on request – email events@motorcyclingsa.org.au

The positions that are open are as follows :

2023/24 term :
– Reliability Trial
– Road Race
– Speedway
– ATV (Quads)

To complete the 2022/23 term :
– Enduro
– Dirt Track

NEWS – TEAM SA ANNOUNCED FOR AJMX 2022 IN ROCKHAMPTON

After a two year hiatus, 2022 sees the return of the KTM Australian Junior Motocross Championship (AJMX), which will take place in Rockhampton and will see the country’s top junior riders compete for national title glory from 27 September to 1 October.

“The 2022 KTM Australian Junior Motocross Championship at Rockhampton will be one of the biggest junior sporting events in Australia…” said Motorcycling Australia CEO, Peter Doyle. “And after a two-year break between Championships because of COVID-19 restrictions, we know our best junior riders will be eagerly awaiting the drop of the start gate.”

Motorcycling SA are proud to announce Team South Australia for the event, with eight of our best young SAMX riders heading to central Queensland next month to compete : Bodhi Austin, Nate Bowman, Wil Carpenter, Emily Lambert, Thomas Lambert, Kye Little, Riley Mullin and Declan Smart.

“We congratulate all the riders selected as part of Team SA,” said MotorcyclingSA’s Sports Manager for Motocross, Clint Gow-Smith. “After a successful 2022 SAMX Championship Series now wrapped up, I know that the entire SA Motocross community will get behind our SA team and wish these legends all the best for Rockhampton.”

NEWS – MSA 2022 ELITE RIDER PROGRAM APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN

After dealing with COVID the past couple of years, we are excited to be relaunching the MotorcyclingSA Elite Rider Program in 2022!

This year, the event will take place across two days on Saturday October 22 and Sunday October 23 at Woodhouse Activity Centre in Piccadilly, about 30mins drive from the Adelaide CBD.

“It’s great for us to finally be in a place where we can bring together the best promising riders across all disciplines, to learn skills and knowledge to help them take the next steps in their riding careers,” said Ryan Smith, Communications Officer for MSA and the organiser of this year’s event. “Our hope is that not only will participants learn a lot from the experience, but also forge new friendships with other riders outside of their disciplines as we continue to purposefully develop sport-wide events to break down barriers in our sport.”

Aimed at SA’s finest and most talented young riders aged 17-22, a comprehensive program is being developed that will assist participants in building their careers in motorcycle sport. “We’ve been speaking with some pretty impressive partners from our sport, industry and State Government to put together a really compelling two days,” said Smith. “This isn’t just a chat with a few people you’ll have seen at a race day or hanging out at the MSA office. Participants will hear from special guest speakers and industry professionals, and participate in leadership, teamwork and physical activities specifically designed to build skills they can use as they continue to develop themselves and their riding.”

Applications are open now through to COB on Friday September 23, 2022 – with the final selected riders to be announced in October. Interested riders shouldn’t delay though, as spaces are limited and competition will be tough. “MSA were inundated with applications for past Elite Rider Programs, and we don’t expect this year to be any different,” added Smith. “This is such a huge opportunity that will be open only to the best of the best – so your submissions will really need to impress!”

NEWS – TRIBUTE TO MARK “GILBY” GILBERT, FORMER MEMBER VMCASA

It’s with sadness that MotorcyclingSA learned of the recent passing of Mark “Gilby” Gilbert, former member of the Veteran Motorcycle Competitors Association of South Australia.

President of the club Brian ‘Nip’ Kuerschner shared the below thoughts, honouring Mark :

Having viewed the online Funeral Service provided by Embrace Funerals for the family of Mark Gilbert I thought it appropriate to provide a few lines from the Service on Mark’s behalf.

Not much was known of Mark by our Members other than his very busy life and dedication to promoting International Speedways events at Wayville. Riding and driving in most disciplines of Speedway which included riding Solo Motorcycles, driving Midget Speedcars and Sprintcars, Mark has been an extremely busy guy. Mark was evidently always a Speedway enthusiast right from an early age visiting Rowley Park in the latter years of the 1960s.

During those eventful nights at Wayville, Mark together with Kym Bonython brought out several International Speedway Stars the likes of our own Ivan Mauger from New Zealand, from Denmark Hans Nielson, Simon ‘Wiggie’ Wigg from Britain and from Stockholm Sweden, Per Jonsson the 1990 World Speedway Solo Champion.

Other events were presented at the Adelaide Convention Centre which included Indoor Stadium MotoX action. Mark visited the United Kingdom and the United States on many occasions searching for valuable promotional information to bring back to Australia. Other spectacular promotions provided by Mark included the fabulous Monster Trucks Rumbles again organized at the Wayville Showgrounds.

Of other interests to Mark was his very own businesses running a Transport Truck around the country along with his Spray Painting and Panel Shop. Recognized as one of the very best Speedway Promotors throughout Australia, drawing with his final breath Mark was heard to utter these words, “What’s the fuss all about?”

RESULTS : MUNGAREE WOODSHED TRIAL

This past weekend saw Trials SA running the iconic Mungaree Woodshed Trial – albeit a wet and while one this year! “We had some fantastic riders out on the property this year – but it was sooooo muddy!” said Ella Peacock, MSA’s Sports Manager for Trials. “The creek came down on Sunday and Section 7 of the Trial had to be removed because the water was too high. Five bikes got flooded – but we got them up and running again. However on one person’s bike, the compression head blew up. So it was a pretty eventful weekend!”

“We ran a fundraiser raffle as part of the weekend too, with proceeds going toward getting our Australian team over to the upcoming Trial des Nations  – and raised $690, which was awesome!”

The 2022 Troy Series concludes at the end of this month with Velocette MCC hosting the ‘Black Mud’ Trial in Robertstown on August 28. The current points table is available here.
