24 HOUR THOUGHTS – THE DAY AFTER!

July 15, 2019 Filed Under: News, Reliability, State Championship

24 HOUR THOUGHTS

Social media being the creation it is, after an event many riders put up their thoughts on the event, as well as how they went and any thanks to sponsors and supporters who helped them on the day. Here is a short run down on the thoughts of a few of the riders (and supporters) who rode the 24 Hour Trial on the weekend, and includes riders, passengers, experts & clubman, as well as a couple of rookies as well!

Scott Richardson

What a weekend. Thank you Matt Lee for a great ride in the 24 Hour Reliability Trial. So good to be back on the bike after such a long break. Thanks for your huge effort preparing the bike Matt you did a great job.

Big thanks to all the friends and family who supported us for the weekend.
Thanks also to Barossa Motorcycles, Barossa Pool Services and Haynes Welding & Fabrication for their support.

Caroline Wilksch

Thank you to Wundy for getting us home. Despite a number of bike issues we managed to finish the 24 Hour!

Massive thanks to the Organising Committee, generous land holders, officials, all the control keepers and anyone else involved. Incredible to see this event run year after year on the generosity of volunteers!!!

Congrats to all the finishers, hard luck to those who didn’t … always next year.
Thanks Pam for following us around all event, keeping food and fluids up and encouraging us! Photo credit the amazing Jen Shanks xx

Sean Throup

Well that’s 14 from 14. I started my first 24hr 15 years ago, I have only missed one year, making that 14starts and 14finishes. Thank you to all my family and friends for supporting me and being out there cheering me on, but mostly my wife for letting me do it. Haha. And still after 14 years it is the best feeling and a great achievement to finish the @24hourtrial. I reckon 11 of these finishes have been on WR450F’s so a true testament to the bike @yamahamotoraus. Another big thankyou goes to Greg Slats from GS moto for helping me get there every year.

Hayley Schultz (first ever reliability trial!)

Soooooooo…… WE DID IT…… WE FINISHED THE 24 HOUR…. omg the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. Thank you to Kristy Krunchy Schultz for trusting me on the side and looking after me… Thank you to ALL the supporters, family and friends. At the time… I absolutely hated it and struggled but now… I did actually enjoy it…haha. If anyone has any photos or that feel free to send them thru… can’t believe I finished….

Jessica Giles

OMG we did it!

2019 24 Hour Reliability Trial – done! So very excited that Jamie and I got our #2from2, we should retire before we jeopardise our perfect record Jamie!

So proud of my brother for keeping us safe for that long journey, and our sidecar, she’s amazing!

Things can and usually do go wrong in this event, just as happened this year, so to finish this event with bodies and bike (mostly) intact is a huge blessing.

I love the difference in how Jamie and I celebrate, give him all the alcohol and I’ll just have a hot chocolate please!

Many people to thank for many things, but right now rest and relief that is done!

From Darlene Jenke about Rhys Jenke, (another 24 Hour rookie)

#stamina, #endurance, #physicaltiredness, #mentalfatigue #familysupport, #awesomemates, #24hrreliabiltytrial, #crashes, #finished
Well Rhys Jenke we are so proud of you. Completing your first full 24hr motorbike reliability trial. It was tough, a few hiccups, but you achieved your goal pushing through your tough moments & your physical & mental exhaustion to achieve your goal. We are so happy & relieved!! You made it. Thank you to your awesome mates for their encouragement & support to help you achieve your goal.

Thanks Liam Sander for keeping a corner of your eye on him occasionally whilst trying to race as well. Well done on your finish and hope the knee is ok. Congratulations to cousin Damien Jenke on an awesome ride as well. Thanks family, friends & all the well wishes throughout the race. Rhys you did it and remember the bike is repairable. Congratulations mate!

Nathanael House

Sliding into Monday feeling a bit sore after completing the 24hr Reliability Trial over the weekend.

The stages were quite challenging with all types of terrain as the well as the dealing with the rain, cold and wind. But feel so good to complete it.

Just want to say a massive thank you to my sponsors as well as friends that came out to support and but a huge thank you to Daniel Annear for staying up all night, following me around and supporting me, really meant a lot knowing I had someone at each section.

Also a big thanks to all the volunteers that made this event happen.

Sam Florance

Absolutely stoked to have finished this year’s 24 Hour Reliability Trial. After a devastating DNF last year we were on a mission to finish this one. The end of lap one brought me a pierced radiator hose which tried to put me out early. Fortunately with a little bit of bush mechanics I was able to fix it well enough to get my steel horse going again at a cost of around 3 min trail time.

About 6hrs after we also had and encounter with a hidden tree branch in the dark which smashed one of my front lights. Luckily the LED globe was not damaged and I was able to continue.

Also had to play auto electrician in the dark to fix some wiring that threatened to put us out.

The track was rocky and tough, but also had some high speed MX style grass tracks thrown in for a bit of fun which I really enjoyed.
All in all it was a very eventful event that kept us on our toes and can’t wait to tackle it again next year.

Dad put the hard yards in all week prior preparing my bike for war after the Hattah tried to wreck it. Without his support I wouldn’t have made the start line.
Thank you to my sponsors; Ficifolia Lodge Kangaroo Island Sth Australia, Kangaroo Island Outdoor Action, Little Sahara, Kangaroo Island, Turner’s Tyre Service Dunlop Super Dealer and Castrol. Your continued support is invaluable. Also thankyou to my awesome wife Melissa Florance and family for allowing me to do what I love.

THANK YOU

Andrew Hank

Had a bloody fun ’19 24 hour, easy as track apart from a couple of k’s of rocks leaving SAPMAC control, and the muddy creek held up well at the Velocette  control. Didn’t lay it down or touch the tools /spares apart from the airfilters.
The lil’ 3fiddy is a joy to steer ,jump, hop and smash those dam rocks with the Biketune Suspension, and not once did it set a wheel wrong.
Thanx to the others riders around me for a great night of banter and laughs, Caden Rogers, Mackenzie Camp, Michael Kerin, Matthew Aimann.

Was cool to see the young guns having a red hot dip all night, enjoyed playing the fox and the hound with you Caden, thanx for keeping me going.
Thanx for the words of encouragement from all the friendly faces at the fuel stops and controls.

Thanx must go to #coastktm ,#Kessners, #platinumlighting, #Biketune,
#HEBO

Steve Sparkes (Rally Class)

Another great weekend of riding at the 24. Thanks to carol, paul and Lee-anne for coming up yesterday and the rally guys for making it so enjoyable. Really enjoyed today.

Highlight for today was getting a chance to do some training for the X-games. I think I shall call it “the sudden superman with a shitty pants landing”, nailed it too I might add.

Huge thanks to these riders, etc for their thoughts & photographs, and Jen Shanks from Pretend Photography for her awesome pics as well!

OVERSEAS ROUND UP; SOUTH AUSSIES SMASHIN’ IT OVER THE 13 & 14 JULY WEEKEND!

July 15, 2019 Filed Under: Motocross, News, SAMX Championship, Speedway, Trials

OVERSEAS ROUND UP; SOUTH AUSSIES SMASHIN’ IT OVER THE 13 & 14 JULY WEEKEND!

Again, a number of South Aussies were smashin’ it in Europe over the weekend, and in 4 different disciplines – motocross, trial, speedway & sidecarcross – here’s the rundown on how our local talent went;

Brayden Mcguiness

Brayden had some excellent results in the Slovenian Championship over the weekend.

Overall he finished 2nd in the Under 21 Class and was an outstanding 5th overall in the Championship. Awesome stuff!

Lillie Yiatrou

15 year old Lillie had an awesome debut Qualifying, nailing it for 11th (out of 16) from her 2 runs, with a great time and 1 point lost, which put her in a great spot on track for her debut GP the next day.

From Lillie’s mum, Paula; Well, our first round on the GP circuit has been a hell of a roller coaster! Lillie placed 13th.

Really happy with that and a harder standard than she normally rides back home in Australia. Now we head to next week’s round 2 in Auron, France.

Brian Anthony

GP9 (Germany) was overall a good GP with Team Cuche we had few engine dramas in race 1 unfortunately resulting in a DNF whilst in a points scoring position and race 2 we had a pretty good race finishing 14th scoring another 7 points and ticking off two more goals I set myself to finish top 15 and on the lead lap which isn’t too easy with how fast these guys are!

Overall must be happy as it was our first race together and it takes time to get comfortable. Thanks Lara and the kids for being by my side always and to everyone who helps and encourages me and the few people that really go out of their way to help on and off the bike, from advise from the top guys, to letting me warm up and training with them and support through the week, even just for somewhere to wash our clothes etc. it’s very appreciated!

Bring on the next race I want more!

Dakota Ballantyne

NICE speedway challenge 11/07/19

I was lucky enough to pick up a ride at an individual meeting here in the UK at the Isle of Wight.

The NICE challenge is an event where all riders are supplied an engine (JAWA 2 valve) to showcase how individual skill and knowledge can separate the field.

Unfortunately tonight I had a bit of bad luck, my first and second race I had an incident with the air fence (crashed) excluding me for stopping the race both times.
Third heat came and I made an excellent start from gate 4 to lead for 3/4 of a lap before starting to struggle and have a fall on the last corner of the last lap!!
Last race came and I had made a few changes to the setup as time allowed and I made an excellent gate again and rode it all the way the chequered flag!

Thank you to everyone that helped me to be a part of the challenge, I appreciate it!
I know to stay on my bike next time

Massive thank you to Josh Moss for driving 4+ hours to help spin spanners for me

Connor Bailey

Had another great night tonight at Glasgow, beating my PB points score again with 6! Learned plenty, and I’m finally getting my starts up to pace. Thanks to Craig for letting me have that one!  Also thanks very much to Graeme Martin for mechanic-ing for me, I really appreciate it!

Thanks very much to Graeme Martin for helping me out last night in the pits, thanks for helping everything run smoothly. Also thanks to Ciaran for helping me pack up, you definitely know your stuff and you’re gonna make a great mechanic some day

Alex Larwood

Alex rode the World Junior Motocross Championships over the weekend in Trentino, Italy as part of Team Australia, and in one of the hottest fields and tightly contested classes at the Championships, Alex fought through Qualifying to qualify 24th (of 40) in his group and missed the automatic entry to the main races.

He then had to go into Last Chance Qualification and had to finish in the top 5 to go through. He finished 6th (of 38) and missed out – by only .416 of a second – and was the 2nd reserve for the 125cc class.

While heartbreaking to miss out by such a small margin, Alex, was still a fine representative and ambassador for his country and for himself.

Connor Hogan

After a less than successful Qualifying that netted 2 fives, Connor bounced back in the Trial GP in Portugal to finish a great 22nd in the Trial2 Class, in what was a hotly contested class, and with positions changing by the section, Connor was as high at 17th and as low as 24th before the end of the event.

Like Lillie, he now heads to Auron in France for the next round this coming weekend.

SO – if you know of any other South Aussies riding overseas, please let us know who and what they are up to and how they are going by emailing; projects@motorcyclingsa.org.au with all the details – and a pic or 2 – and especially if the venue is as awesome as the Portugal round of the Trial GP (below) – Qualifying section was in the middle of the town, with vantage points at a premium!

SA’S ICONIC 24 HOUR TRIAL – THIS WEEKEND FROM THE EUDUNDA OVAL!

July 11, 2019 Filed Under: Enduro, News, Reliability, State Championship

SA’S ICONIC 24 HOUR TRIAL – THIS WEEKEND FROM THE EUDUNDA OVAL!

The 2019 South Australian Reliability Trials Championships heads to Eudunda over this weekend, July 13 & 14, with the running of, arguably, SA’s most iconic event on the calendar each year, The 24 Hour Trial.

First run in 1924, 2019 will see the 95th anniversary of that first event and the 87th running of the event through those years, and this year it will be based, and start, from the Eudunda Sporting Complex on Saturday, July 13th at 11.00am and will be an event of 4 laps over the 24 hour period, with bike #1, all being well, crossing the finish line at 11.00am Sunday morning.

Who to watch in 2019; The 24 Hour website has a list of ‘who’s hot’, in both solo & sidecar for this year, with it being a very open field as they chase last years Champions, Riley Graham (outright & solo) and Mark Launer & Tyson Rohrlach (sidecar)!

For more information visit www.24hrtrial.com

Spectator viewing; Instructions to the spectator locations are now up on the 24 Hour Trial website, and will also will be included in the official event programme, which will be available at Main Control – with 2019 also playing host to a number of International riders from Wales.

Property respect;

The course runs through private farm land which has been generously provided by the local farmers, many of which are in crop this time of the year. Our priority is to look after the land and land owners, therefore with permission of some land owners, we have provided designated spectator areas for the public to access.

Access to these areas is permitted on foot only but camping is not permitted within the property. Please take rubbish with you when leaving these areas.

We also ask that all competitors and support crew (family, friends, whoever) respect our landowners and all signage regarding where you can and cannot go. If anyone is spotted in a location that is prohibited for spectators, both those support crews and the rider they are with will be asked to pack up and leave the event immediately.

Our property owners are the only reason we able to run this event, we would like to thank you in advance for respecting the private property we have been granted use of by not returning after the event.

Catering facilities, merchandise & programme sales; All will be available at Main Control, which will be at the Eudunda Oval in the Show Hall – also be aware of less room this year at the oval due to major renovations.

The 24 Hour Trial Organising Committee would like to thanks their very valuable partners for the 2019 event;

Platinum partners;

Silver partners;

Bronze partner;

FUEL – for non-competitors;

This year Sskids Tyres & Mechanical are the only spot to fill up in Eudunda with fuel, they are open;

Saturday 13th July; 9.00am – 12.00am

Sunday 14th July; 6.00am – 12.00pm

SOUTH AUSSIES RIDE, RACE, SWIM & SINK AT THE HATTAH ‘SWAMP’ RACE

July 8, 2019 Filed Under: Enduro, News, SAORC

SOUTH AUSSIES RIDE, RACE, SWIM & SINK AT THE HATTAH ‘SWAMP’ RACE!

The 2019 Penrite Hattah Desert Race looked more like the NT’s Kamfari Mud Run on the Sunday, as the heaven’s opened on the Senior Race and while it gave the region some much needed rain for the farmers – it could have held off for about 4 hours!

That said, the 100+ South Aussie strong contingent, like all events, had some tales of woe, some tales of ‘getting the job done’, and some tales of epic rides! Here are just a few of the tales to come out of this iconic Australian event in 2019.

Will Price took to the event like a duck to water and splashed his way to an awesome 15th outright and 2nd in the Under 19 Class, and finishing in front of some of Australia’s best off road and desert races, Broc Grabham and Jacob Smith to name a couple.

Will’s Kessner KTM teammate, Cooper Sheidow, also had a great result in finishing 5th (41st outright) in the Under 19 Class, and one of only 7 in the class to finish on the lead lap!

David Jongebloed also had a great run, finishing 2nd in the Veterans 35-44 Years Class, and one of only 2 in the class to finish on the lead lap.

In the Junior Big Wheel race, Jack Colbert had an outstanding run, finishing in the top 10 for 9th outright on the day, and 6th in class – an outstanding ride from Jack against many of the best in Australia!

In the Juniors, Charlie Milton was also looking good for a great finish when he ran out of fuel near the end and had to push home, but even with running dry he still managed an excellent 12th outright in the Big Wheel Junior Race and finished 8th in class!

Also having good runs in that class were Max Liebknecht, Mitchel Stanway and Kyan Haydon who finished 17th, 18th & 21st.

In the 100-150cc 2 stroke Class for the Big Wheels, Jack McLean rode to an excellent 6th place, with Alex Head right behind in 7th place, and with Aimee Butler leading home the SA girls with a 7th place in the 12-U16 Girls Class.

In the Small Wheels race there was an outstanding effort from the Gear brothers from Keith, with Davey finishing 4th outright and 4th in class, and younger brother, Ollie, finishing 10th outright and 2nd in his class – superb effort lads!

For a comprehensive look at all the results – outright and class, junior and senior – head to this link to see how all the south Aussies went! https://speedhive.mylaps.com/Events/1688910

& A COUPLE OF PROUD MUMS!

From Cassandra Liebknecht;

2017, he blew the bike on the first lap

2018 started in 59th position and finished

2019 started 18th position and finished 35th outright and 17th in class. So proud!

 2020?????

#hattah19 congrats again for an awesome event and the perfect weather

Maxwell Liebknecht you make us very proud, just remember the mind needs as much training as the body.

From Jen Verhees;

So proud of my boys getting Hattah 2019 done! Such an awesome event to be part of. Congratulations Tanner on finishing your first Desert Hattah Race. Couldn’t have been part of this event without your support/pit crew – Thanks guys! Tanner is very fortunate to have a great dad, Darren Verhees who made sure this could all happen

AND FROM THE HATTAH COMMITTEE;

The Hattah Committee would like to thank you all for attending the 2019 Penrite Hattah Desert Race powered by Optus.
The landowners, the volunteers, the riders, the pit crew, the families and the spectators – you made the 2019 race a memorable one.
This year’s race is certainly one for the history books for being the 2019 Hattah Swamp Race.
See you all in 2020!

And finally – we mentioned it was a tad damp on Sunday – and with photo credits to Motosport Mildura – here’s the proof, which includes a ‘dirty’ look at the camera from SA’s own Nick Leditschke (top 2 pics)
