RESULTS – A HUGE WEEKEND OF SMILES AT THE FIRST JAMALKA OFF-ROAD RACE

April 18, 2023 Filed Under: Enduro, News

The inaugural Jamalka Off-Road Race at Tumby Bay was run and won over a massive 4 days of action from the 13th to the 16th of April. Riders and buggies were met by a gruelling 60 KM per lap off-road course, framed perfectly by the beautiful Eyre Peninsula wilderness. The event was the brainchild of a South Aussie farmer, off-road racer Ben, and his wife Nat McNamara. The pair dreamed of creating an Enduro Desert Race extravaganza that could test its competitors and grow to join the National Off Road Circuit.

Crowds were greeted by plenty of fast-paced action during each day, with even more off-track entertainment late into the night, including music, food and of course, many beverages shared between friends in the specially designed facilities Ben created for the event.

Enduro riders from all over South Australia jumped at the opportunity to get their bikes and bodies warmed up for the upcoming Fink Desert Race and you could see by the smiles on their faces a mile away… the event was a fan favourite.

After a full perfect 2 days of racing and 300km under his belt, Jay Simister #229 took out the competition outright with an impressive total time of 03:50:18.434. With a grin from ear to ear, you could tell straight away he was pumped and keen to get back out to do it all over again. With only a marginal gap of just over 5 minutes, Daniel Hunt #380 finished outright in second place with a time of 03:55:46.007. Showing the young lads how it’s done John Harkness #759 put down a cracking time of 4:11:26.073 both winning the Veterans 45+ and sitting third outright. The fourth fastest overall for the weekend came in as Tanner Pfitzner #47 with a 4:12:30.527 followed closely by Benjamin Piggott 5th fastest overall.

Tammy Peters #721 represented the girls as the only open Women but we are sure there are going to be plenty more competitors joining her in the coming years. Similarly, Matthew Pierce #415 ran solo in the Up to 251cc but in the end, still stood tall after conquering the event challenge. John Harkness #759 led the Veterans 35+ class with an incredible ride, in front of Reece Scott #5 and Jason Mitchell#701.

Proving that experience still can mix with the young crowd, Scott Baker #932 took out the Veterans 45+ years, with Quenten O’Connor #411 not being able to catch him in time, to finish in second after a long weekend on the bike.

The course laid claim to its fare share victims with Andrew Kerr coming off his bike at the finish line just before 11 am on Saturday, Jessie Malone suffering a broken collar bone during his race and Clinton Letton, ending his weekend after having the misfortune of tagging a tree stump.

With the first successful Jamalka Off-road Race in the history books for 2023, we are sure we will see it back in 2024 bigger and better than ever. The skies are really the limit with the future of the Jamalka Off-Road Race and it’s already off to a huge start.

April 17, 2023 Filed Under: News, Trials

A new year of Trials kicked off over the weekend with Round 1 of the TROY Series SA at the AJS Moto Trial Club of SA in Victor Harbor. The picturesque landscape met both spectators keen for all the action and riders ready to take up the challenge of the Waterfall course set perfectly among the Yakka Bushes.

Anticipation was high with riders keen to kick off their 2023 season after a well-earned break and boy did they bring the action, all keen to cement their position to lead their category into the upcoming rounds ahead.

Said AJS Club President, Kieran Hill about the weekend “A Great weekend many AJS members turning out on Saturday to set 10 sections on this idyllic Victor Harbour property, 4 Laps of those sections in Yakka lined gullies, creeks & of course the waterfall proved to be a testing days ride in perfect conditions for the 40 plus riders including 5 rookies competing for the first time”.

URGENT PRESS RELEASE – MOTORCYCLING SPORT UNDER THREAT

March 30, 2023 Filed Under: All disciplines, News

30 March 2023

Motorcycling Sport in Australia is under threat of disappearing, possibly, as soon as 2024.

A worldwide trend in insurance companies not providing insurance for high risk sporting activities has already resulted in the shutdown of Road Racing in Northern Ireland this year.

Recent events in Australia have raised the possibility that the sport may not get insurers to underwrite our own insurance into the future.

Is there anything we can do to avoid the demise of our sport? The simple answer is yes but we need to act now!

As a sport we need to show our underwriters that we are serious about risk management and that we are actively doing something about it.

To that end, we are holding a number of Risk Management Seminars in the coming months to address this issue.

We need every official, committee member, track manager, course designer or anyone else who is involved in helping to run competitive and non-competitive events at any level to attend a Risk Management Seminar.

MSA will be recording the names of those who attend so that we can show that we have taken on the task of extensively training people in this key area.

To do your part in saving motorcycle sport in Australia you just need to book a place at one of our two-hour seminars on the Officials Page on the Motorcycling SA website. You can also arrange to attend via teams by booking directly with the office on 08 8332 9000.

Up coming seminars are scheduled for:

  • Wednesday 5 April 6:30pm MSA Hall 251 The parade Beulah Park
  • Thursday 20 April 6:30pm MSA Hall 251 The Parade Beulah Park
  • Wednesday 26 April 6:30pm MSA Hall 251 The Parade Beulah Park

*Registrations through the MSA Officials page: HERE*

Please check the website for future metropolitan and regional seminars to be announced.

Results – 2023 ASBK Round 2 Lights Up Sydney Motorsport Park

March 29, 2023 Filed Under: News, Road Racing

SA’s road race teams have continued their results tally from round 1 with more action-packed intense racing at Round 2 of the mi-bike Motorcycle Insurance Australian Superbike Championship presented by Motul (ASBK) in Sydney Motorsport Park over the 25th and 26th March 2023. It was certainly a historic weekend and for the first time…racing under lights!!

A team of 16 South Australians, their families and team members loaded up the trucks for the trip over, all keen to continue the championship journey. Unfortunately, we didn’t see Jack Davis or Phoenix Agar join the crew to make the trip, but hopefully looking forward to them, returning for Round 3 at Queensland Raceway.

With most of our riders have social media pages, here are the ones that we know of so far, so check out their reports and thoughts on how their season has started!

Even being so early in the championship series, we can’t help but be incredibly excited with the level of racing our South Aussies are throwing down. Not only having multiple top 10 placings but also having 2 of our champs lead the 600 Supersport Series. Ty Lynch is currently enjoying the top spot after a stellar consistent series and Olly Simpson charging hard, keen to move up from second place overall. It’s simply fantastic to see!!

Special kudos to young Archie Schmidt, with this being his debut year racing the Oceania Junior Series and fantastically, pulling a 3rd place podium in race 3, to sit in 9th place for the Championship so far.

FINAL BANG FOR THE SEASON – 2023 SA PAINTMASTER SIDECAR CUP

March 28, 2023 Filed Under: News, Speedway

Gillman Speedway was the place to be Saturday, 25th March, with the Speedway Riders Association of SA presenting the 2023 Paintmaster SA Sidecar Cup. Spectators were in for a huge final meeting of the season, with a stacked field of sidecars battling it out for both the main race and also one lap, $500 dash for cash. Adding this with solo racing, flat track solos and packed support categories, resulted in a massive night for one and all.

With cold hard cash on the line, riders were giving it their absolute all to take home the biscuits. After exceptionally tight lap times being thrown down, Shane Rudloff and Scott Morris took home the cash prize with a stellar time of 14.53. Well done lads!!

Nate Headland / Byron Mordaunt had a clean, fast night. After a second-place finish in the first race, they made up for time lost to power through the remaining heats with firsts, to get into the finals and take the top spot. Followed closely in second after a great night of racing, Shane Rudloff / Scott Morris held off Dean Hobbs / Daniel Low, who had to settle for third. After a night of fighting through the packs and qualifying through the Semifinals, Nathan Fleet and Eric Melton rounded out the podium in fourth place.
