RESULTS – SART ROUND 3 : THE LEW JOB 2 DAY TRIAL

June 16, 2022 Filed Under: Reliability, SA Women in Motorcycling

The weekend of June 11/12 saw Round 3 of the 2022 SA Reliability Trials held, with Velocette MCC hosting the ‘Lew Job’ 2 Day Trial held at Robertstown.

Each day consisted of approximately six hours, with competitors taking off from and returning to Robertstown Oval. With limited daylight hours this time of year, the team could only accommodate a set number of participants – meaning it was a full weekend which reached maximum capacity for registration a full week before the event! Riders, spectators and the crew supported local businesses and were warmed by egg and bacon rolls, coffee and the notorious mutton and gravy rolls as Robertstown turned on a brisk but beautiful weekend, perfect for riding!

Zack Tremaine put in a huge effort and took P1 overall, with the combo of Shane Schiller/Steven Doecke the first sidecar team across the line. Provisional overall results are below, with details and results by class available on the SART website here. (Note competitors have until midnight on Wednesday June 22 to challenge or query any results.)

Worthy of a special mention is the sidecar team of Caroline Wilksch and Erin Pratt – who by all accounts are the first mother/daughter sidecar team that we have seen in SART history!

The SART 2022 Championship continues August 13, with the ‘Gil Harris’ Trial (formerly the ‘Theo Nixon’ Trial) hosted by Levis Club in the Mallala region. Stay tuned to the MSA website and socials for more information as this next event approaches.

RESTORING ACUSA PARK TOWARD A BETTER, GREENER FUTURE.

June 7, 2022 Filed Under: News

A dedicated team of volunteers braved the cold and rainy conditions at ACUSA Park on Saturday 4th June 2022 to continue the rejuvenation of the area.

During the destructive bushfires that ravaged the area during the notorious ‘Black Summer’ of 2019/2020, a lot of native vegetation was lost in this area to the east of Adelaide – as well as key infrastructure of our track and facilities. Since then, we’ve been able to slowly restore and improve things, and continue our work to fully restore ACUSA Park and it’s surrounds to its former glory.

From knocking in stakes and securing the tree-guards, to preparing and planting the trees, our team of volunteers put in a mammoth effort and planted over 600 new, native trees this weekend – which adds to the 780 planted last year, with another 500 going in later this year – bringing back the protection for local bird and wildlife, recovering the damaged land and preventing future erosion. Further areas were cleared of fallen, dead and burnt woods to allow more area for planting.

Our work in restoring and caring for the area will continue, as we follow through on our commitment to be an environmentally responsible land owner and Motorsport Park – greening Australia towards a carbon neutral future.

NEWS – ROCKHOPPING SA 2022 SA WOMEN’S CUP & DIENER/HOLMES SIDECAR TROPHY RIDING PINK TO HELP BEAT CANCER!

June 7, 2022 Filed Under: News, SA Women in Motorcycling, Trials

The 2022 SA Women’s Cup & Diener/Holmes Sidecar Trophy, to be run at Vine Vale on Sunday June 19th will be a ‘Ride Pink’ day to raise money for cancer research, with funds raised on the day to go to Motorcycling Australia’s chosen 2022 charity – Camp Quality (SA’s branch).

So, get out your best pink gear for the day, with prizes for the best costumes on the day, and join in the fun and do your bit – the previous Pink Days, held back in 2012 & 2013 were both great days, a lot of fun and brought out some great (and not so great!) costumes.

The event itself will be held at Vine Vale in the Barossa Valley – just off the intersection of Stockwell Road & Vine Vale Roads (Pech’s Corner) between Angaston & Nuriootpa – with riding to start at 9.00am.

For those keen to have a ride and get their ‘glad rags’ on – entries are now open through Ridernet (any issues, ring Andrew on 0410 510 107, or email on andtan@aapt.net.au) – and there are a full range of classes for solos and sidecars, covering ages 4 to +70, and both competitive and non-competitive with 1 event licences also available!

All classes available are listed on the supp regs for the event, which are available on the Motorcycling SA website, and will also be emailed to all riders upon entry, as will the self-scrutineering form.

The organising Keyneton Motorcycle Club would like to give a huge thanks Greg Knight’s Rockhopping SA for the continued support of this event – if you need anything Trial related, Greg is certainly your man!

Stay tuned for more info in the coming week regarding who is donating prizes and what they will be – as well as what catering details for the event.

RESULTS – 47TH PETER SPARKES TROPHY TRIAL

June 6, 2022 Filed Under: News, Trials

“Wow … what a fabulous Trial! The 47th Peter Sparkes Trophy Trial definitely rates as a finalist in this year’s ‘Trial of the Year’ Award. No great bells and whistles, just a down to earth “grit it out” Trial.

It had everything stacked against it including 12th hour change of venue, a change of format, and illness limiting section setter numbers – along with shocking weather conditions. With almost every other SA Motorcycling discipline cancelling their events for the weekend, the AJS Club, facing adversity, stood up to all of the challenges. A massive thank you to the Hentschke Family who came to the rescue and offered their shearing shed as a refuge for campers, the riders operations centre, and the venue for hosting the fabulous Caterers who kept everyone going with delicious hot soup and BBQ – plus sweets and treats!

The riders (granted, all very cold), still tackled the challenging but super fun sections. And when they had warmed up, they had loads of stories and experiences to enthusiastically share at presentation time (also inside the shearing shed). A Trial that will be reminisced about for years to come, as … ‘the wet one that we rode in Hentschke’s creek’.”

– Brenton Wundenberg, AJS Moto Trial Club of SA.

NEWS – A STATEMENT FROM THE MSA BOARD

May 30, 2022 Filed Under: Motocross, News

A STATEMENT FROM THE MSA BOARD :

This past weekend saw Round 4 of The Penrite Australian ProMX Championship, presented by AMX Superstores return to our state for the first time in three years – the MSA Board wish to congratulate the Motocross Riders Association for providing a world class track for this event. We would also like to recognise the officials and volunteers who made it a truly fantastic and first-rate event in South Australia.

Despite worries for a horrendous downpour on the crowd and riders throughout the day, it was clear blue skies and crisp autumn air for a majority of the day. From first practice and qualifying through the 9 races across the day, energy was high and the track at Gillman Motocross Track was beautifully prepared. The crowd were enthusiastic and seemed to constantly build throughout the day, keen to see some world class motocross action – including local heroes Brett Metcalfe and Kirk Gibbs who finished second and third respectively in THOR MX1 Overall for the day.

The inclusion of the Yamaha bLU cRU ‘Mini Moto’ inflatable track for kids to come-and-try was welcomed by parents and kids alike, hopefully starting a few of the little ones on the pathway to one day being ProMX Champions themselves! We hope to feature this initiative at more of our events around SA in the coming months.

When the heavens eventually did open up – it was thankfully not on any of the races. But we spared a thought and wish to give a shout out to the workers, teams, volunteers and marshals who surely would have had their work cut out for them during the pack up, judging by the rain overnight and the state of the flooded areas of the track following morning! Events like these don’t just happen, and it’s the tireless efforts of these people that make us proud to be a part of the South Australian motorcycling community.

Round 5 of The Penrite Australian ProMX Championship moves across to Maitland in NSW on June 26. Locally, our affiliated clubs have plenty of motocross action for SA riders including the South Coast MX Club Championship this weekend on June 5.
