WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS FOR BRIAN ANTHONY!

Overnight in France, Brian Anthony ticked off 2 huge items on his personal bucket list when, after sneaking in as the final qualifier for the French Grand Prix of the Sidecarcross World Championship, heat 2 saw Brian, and his German Rider, Joachim Reimann, (bike #24) finish a solid 17th, which scored them 4 World Championship points – and all in his first World Championship ride!

Having only been in Europe for almost 2 weeks, and with a ride last weekend in the German Championship, which saw Brian suffer a few physical problems – possibly the result of jet lag – this weekend’s round of the World Championship was held in warm & sunny conditions at Plomion in the North East region of France, not far from the Belgium border.

A course of fast up and downhills, with big drop off and jumps waited for the riders, of which there was over 40 entries, of which 32 would qualify to race the round. Joachim & Brian just managed to sneak in as the 6th and final team through the repecharge – so bucket list item #1 ticked – qualified to ride a GP for the first time!

Race 1 saw the team well inside the top 20 until lap 10 (or 2/3 distance) when their bike lost all braking and they were forced to retire, being credited with a 24th place finish and out of the points!

Race 2 however, saw the team start well and hold a place within the bottom half of the top 20 for most of the race and held that right up until the end when they crossed the line in 17th, which gave the team 4 Championship points – so bucket list item #2 ticked – and a 20th place finish overall for the event.

Huge congratulations to Brian – to get that first Grand Prix under his belt, and come through with such a pleasing result bodes well for the rest of the Championship – stay tuned for updates in the following weeks!

THE VERY FIRST SCOTT WARE MEMORIAL ENDURO TRI-SERIES – 2019 NOW OPEN FOR ENTRIES!

THE SERIES

As a brand new initiative for 2019, 3 of Motorcycling SA’s mid north country clubs, the Gawler, Keyneton & Clare MCC’s have united to launch a brand new enduro series for 2019, the Scott Ware Memorial Tri-Series, and all rounds will run as Cross Country events in the inaugural year.

AND: The Clubs are more than excited to announce that entries for all rounds are now OPEN! Sup Regs and all of the details on the 2 rounds are now available on the Motorcycling SA website here; https://www.motorcyclingsa.org.au/supp-regs/, with entries online through Ridernet.

As stated, all the details are included in the Sup Regs, but here is the general information for the Series – which has one important factor to it – being a Tri-Series with the 3 clubs, membership to one of the 3 clubs is an absolute must – which can also be done through Ridernet for all three clubs.

THE JUNIORS

As you will see below, the focus for this Series will be somewhat more focused on the future of the sport – THE JUNIORS – as all 5 junior classes as per the SAORC are being offered. All 3 clubs have had a junior focus for a long time and will use this series to help develop the future of the sport here in South Australia.

OFF ROAD GIRLS & WOMEN

The 3 clubs are also being proactive in trying to entice more girls into this off road discipline, so, as it states below, 4 entries in each of the 3 races (2 junior and 1 senior), will result in a separate class for Junior & Senior Women in those races – so get around it and get out there, especially as all 3 clubs are renowned for hosting excellent events!

TROPHIES & AWARDS

There will be a trophy awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd of each eligible JUNIOR CLASS at the completion of each round. Seniors will receive series trophies only.

A minimum of two of the series events must be entered to gain eligibility for series results. Each series round counts for overall series points.

The Series will also feature a presentation night, where the Series trophies & awards will be awarded, with all the details to be released once finalised.

CROSS COUNTRY

Riders will be escorted on a sighting lap. No other riding than in the event is permitted.

The tests are to be walked only!

Duration of the Races;

Juniors Race 1; 1.5 hours (90 minutes) plus sight lap

Juniors Race 2; 2 hours (120 minutes) plus sight lap

Seniors; 2.5 hours (150 minutes) plus sight lap

ENTRY FEES

Seniors: $80.00 per round

Juniors: $50.00 per round

One Event Competition Licence $75.00

** Club Membership must be arranged with the respective clubs prior to entering.

JUNIOR CLASSES

** Ages for each class are taken as at January 1^st 2019.

RACE 1

JJ – 8 to 11 years – (65cc 2 stroke)

J1 – 9 to 11 years – (85cc 2 stroke) & (up to 150cc 4 stroke)

RACE 2

J2 – 12 to 15 years – (85cc 2 Stroke) & (up to 150cc 4 Stroke)

J3 – 13 to 14 years – (125cc – 200cc 2-stroke) & (200cc – 250cc 4-stroke)

J4 – 15 years – (125cc – 200cc 2-stroke) & (200cc – 250cc 4-stroke)

**Junior Women – If 4 or more enter in each race, then a separate class will be created in each.

SENIOR CLASSES

Clubman – All Powers (All classes as per SAORC combined)

Veterans – All Powers over 35 yrs. of age (rider must be 35+ years of age before 1st Jan 2019)

Expert – As Graded in Enduro or MX.

** Senior Women – If 4 or more enter across all classes then a separate class will be created.

Entries are now open and close the Sunday prior to each round.

All riders are required to be a member of one of the promoting clubs.

IT’S ALL HAPPENING THIS WEEKEND!

A HUGE WEEKEND!

This weekend is shaping up to one of the biggest of the year so far, with about 8 events, ranging from a SA Championship round to many Ride Days, and spread from Port Lincoln to Mount Gambier!

Disciplines to feature this weekend are also varied, with motocross, modern & classic, reliability trials, quads, dirt & flat track on dirt, as well as road racing for those who like riding on the ‘black stuff’ all featured this weekend.

So, what’s on offer and where – let’s have a look;

SART ROUND 2

This Saturday sees round 2 of the 2019 SART Championship kick off from the Sedan Sporting Complex, the Keyneton MCC’s Mike Connors Reliability Trial, which will start with almost 140 entries, solo and sidecar, from 9.01am

The event will be fully catered by the Sedan Sporting Complex with cold drinks and delicious food. A coffee van will also be available throughout the day. Entry for spectators is FREE Instructions to the spectator locations are in the event programme which are available at Main Control. The Sedan Oval Complex, located on the Sedan Cambrai Road.

NATURAL TERRAIN MX

Sunday sees the Gawler MCC running their popular ‘Natural Terrain MX’, for Classic motocross machines at a new venue at Eudunda, with racing starting at 9.00am.

Entry for spectators is FREE. Directions; The venue address is: Rosella Rd, Eudunda SA 5374, GPS Coordinates: -34.181757, 139.10396. Catering will be available all-day Sunday, including breakfast.

CLUB SERIES

Both Morgan and the MRA Clubs have rounds of their 2019 Club Series on this Sunday at their respective tracks, at Morgan & Gillman, with those riding Gilman also having a chance to ride the track that will be used for the 2019 Australian Junior Motocross Championships (AJMX). COME & TRY

The Mud N Tars MCC at Victor Harbor are holding a Come & Try Day this Sunday, the 26th of May, which will be combined with a Practice Day. The day will be held at their awesome Dirt Track venue on at Day Road, Victor Harbor. If you have never held an MA Licence, you may be entitled to a 90 Day Introductory Rec Licence, so contact Wade Sweet on 0421 601 297 for all the details. Gates open at 7.30am.

RIDE DAYS

It will be a full weekend of riding at Mac Park at Mount Gambier this weekend as the Mount Gambier MCC crew host a road race Ride Day at their brilliant venue.

For those with a taste for bikes with 4 wheels, Quadriders will have their Meningie property open this weekend with onsite camping, with showers & toilets, and catering in the form of the Meningie Main Street less than a kilometre away!

Heading west for the weekend, the Port Lincoln MCC will be running a Ride Day for the ‘forgotten discipline’ that is flat track! Sign in from 8:30-9:30am with riders briefing at 9:45am. Riding will be from 10:00am to 3:00pm.
$25 Rider Entry. $30 Day Licence. $5 Discount Club Members with a canteen serving.

PRICE RACES TO 4TH OUTRIGHT AT OPENING SAORC

The 2019 South Australian Off-Road Championship hit Mount Crawford Forest last weekend for the opening round of the championship. The 7 round championship series takes place across 4 locations with riders competing for glory.

Round 1 took place on the 19th of May as riders tackled a sprint format amongst the technical pine forest of Mount Crawford. With over 200 riders, the competition was fierce and lap times were close all day.

18 year old Kessner KTM Off-Road Team rider Will Price proved his worth aboard his KTM 350 EXC-F machine. Coming off a highly successful 2018 SAORC season, young Price will be one to watch at the top of the leader board.

After placing 3rd outright last year he has been honoured to run the number 3 plate to show his hard work and dedication.

The opening round saw riders tackle short 2.5km loops, consisting of tight pine forest, logs, rocks and small hills. The conditions were perfect which made for some highly entertaining racing.

Competition was tough with returning 2018 champion Andrew Wilksch, South Australia’s number 2 Riley Graham and Queensland ring in Fraser Higlett. However a consistent performance by the rising star saw him race to some fast and consistent times just shy of the top 3 PRO’s.

“The first track suited me better, I liked to tighter technical track with the logs. It really separated those who had sharper technical skills and experience from the rest of the field. It was a difficult track to push hard because there was no room for mistakes, but I made it through smooth and consistent.”

After 4 laps on the first track, riders then swapped over to the junior side. Price sat in 4th position after the opening 4 tests. The second track was more open and flowing, with less technical sections. Spectators were floating around the track all day giving the racing a great atmosphere. The riders were set to embark on 5 sprint laps before racing concluded. Price, once again hammered down consistent lap times, within 4 seconds of each other, across the day to claim 4th outright and 4th in the PRO class.

“I was super happy with my riding today, just backing it off slightly to avoid making a mistake. The second track the times were really close and I had some great battles with Western Australian Nathan Howe. He was pushing me all day and we were only separated by 4 seconds at the end of racing. I rode smooth and pushed where I felt comfortable and consistency paid off. Overall I really enjoyed the day and am looking forward to improving for next round.”

It was a great start to young Will’s 2019 SAORC campaign. The following 2 rounds will take place at Wanbi on the 22nd / 23rd June as riders begin to prepare for the deep sandy terrain and longer enduro format.

‘ROCKHOPPING SA’ 2019 SA WOMEN’S CUP (FOR TRIAL) & THE DIENER / HOLMES SIDECAR TROPHY – ENTRIES OPEN!

The Keyneton Motorcycle Club, along with Rockhopping SA and Motorcycling SA are excited to announce that entries for the 11^th South Australian Women’s Cup & The Diener / Holmes Sidecar Trophy, to be held on Sunday, June 30^th at Eden Valley, are now open.

For our Eastern states friends, this is also the first weekend of your school holidays, so SA would love to see all of the girls and women that ride head over for this great event, and camping options will be available from Friday night!

First run in 2009 this is the very first event in South Australian motorcycling where the girls and women headline the event and has twice been nominated for the FIM Women in Motorcycling Award, in 2016 (finalist) and 2018.

Through its history so far, the event has attracted over 70 girls and women from all states of Australia to ride, including the absolute legends of women’s trials in Australia, Bev Anderson, Michelle Coleman and Kristie McKinnon, as well as almost all of those who have represented Australia at the Trials des Nations (Ailsa Anderson and Jenna Lupo are the 2 missing), which includes SA’s own Sofie Kraft and Lillie Yiatrou.

As always, the SA Women’s Cup will feature a full range of classes for junior and senior riders; PRO (red line), EXPERT (yellow line), SPORT, MASTERS (blue line), NOVICE, JUNIOR A (white line), SUB JUNIOR (black line), MINI TRIAL (non-competitive & run of section)

2018 SA Women’s Cup Champion, Lillie Yiatrou, & 2018 Diener/Trophy Sidecar Trophy Champions, Shane & Matilda Kraft.

Trevor Diener and Philip Holmes are the Keyneton MCC’s greatest Champions, with 7 Australian Championships to their name as a sidecar team, and one each separately, for 8 each in total, and, they were also 10 time South Australian Champions and were never beaten in the Peter Sparkes Sidecar Trophy, and all in a career that only spanned a little over 11 years together as a team!

The naming of the Diener/Holmes Sidecar Trophy in 2009 was made to coincide with the Keyneton MCC 2 Day Trial, as it was at this event in 1988 that the curtain was drawn on their extraordinary career, with a fine farewell victory over the, then, newly crowned Australian Champions of Lawson & Gould from Western Australia.

The Diener/Holmes Sidecar trophy will once again feature the 3 classes; A Grade (red & white line), B Grade (black & yellow line) and Classic (black or run of section), with a Classic Sidecar defined by having an air-cooled motor and no sidecar wheel brake.

Also confirmed since the sup regs were approved is that the crew of Café Dee Wheels will be the caterer for the day with their awesome burgers, complete with homemade sauces & chutneys.

This year the event moves to a venue that hasn’t been used since 2004, on Jutland Road at Eden Valley, so for the majority of the riders, this will be brand new to them, with many of the awesome trials juniors not even having been alive in 2004.

The venue will lend itself to great viewing and a relatively easy walk around the rocks down to the creek and back!

ANNOUNCING THE 2019 SOUTH AUSTRALIAN YOUNG ACHIEVER OF THE YEAR: SEAN GREALY!

ANNOUNCING THE 2019 SOUTH AUSTRALIAN YOUNG ACHIEVER OF THE YEAR: SEAN GREALY!

Unfortunately for the sport of motorcycling, SA’s Connor Hogan missed out on a 7 News Young Achiever Award last Friday night when the winner were announced at a ceremony held at the Hilton International.

Connor was one of 4 finalists for the Worldwide Sports Award, but was beaten out by international Karate star, Carlos Maya Koch, and Motorcycling SA congratulate Carlos on his award, very well deserved.

Connor himself, wasn’t able to attend the evening due to being in Europe preparing for the opening round of the Trial2 World Championship, which will be held this weekend in Italy. He was represented on the night by his mother, Tyler, and grandfather, Mr Bill Mudge.

Not being awarded the Sports Award also put Connor out of the running for the overall SA Ýoung Achiever of the Year Award, which was won by Sean Grealy, and like Carlos, motorcycling SA extends its congratulations.

Sean Grealy, 23 of Morphettville is committed to improving aged care services. He founded CARE Konnect, a suite of software enabling better communication and service quality in aged care, to solve his family’s own problem when his grandfather entered aged care services for the first time.

Care Konnect brings together vulnerable people, their families, and care providers therefore reducing social isolation and promoting healthy ageing in care.

It receives funding from investors and partnership deals with aged care providers.

It expects to connect over 3,000 families in 2019. Sean contributes to his community by working on start-ups like the University of Adelaide ThincLab and Hacker Exchange

Sean took home an additional $2,000 and an amazing overall winner trophy. Congratulations!

Nominations for the 2020 SA Young Achiever Awards will open once again later in the year, so start having a think about nominating some of the amazing young people involved in our sport!
