9 EVENTS THIS WEEKEND – YEP, NINE, COUNT THEM! – HEADLINED BY THE EP SERIES FINALE AT KIMBA!

June 25, 2021 Filed Under: Dirt Track, Enduro, Motocross, News, Road Racing, SA Women in Motorcycling, Trials

9 EVENTS THIS WEEKEND – YEP, NINE, COUNT THEM! – HEADLINED BY THE EP SERIES FINALE AT KIMBA!

A bit spoiled for choice this weekend, with 9 events on, across 4-5 disciplines this weekend, headlined by the Finale’ of the 2021 EP Series at Kimba, but also with events in the Riverland, the metro area, the Murraylands and down the South East, seeing much of the state covered!

But, all eyes (or most anyway) will be on Kimba this weekend as they host the final of the EP Series for MX on Sunday. The EP (Eyre Peninsula) Series, now well over 10 years running, is a great compliment to the SA Championship series, and gives riders from the ‘Wild, Wild West’, a series to develop their skills without needing to drive 100’s of K’s each weekend to get quality competition – and a huge well done to all of the clubs, Whyalla, West Coast, Port Lincoln and Kimba!

AND; A GREAT OFFER TO THOSE HEADING TO KIMBA! To everyone who is heading to the final round of the 2021 EP Series at Kimba – THIS WEEKEND – here is a message from Vicki at the Kimba Gateway Hotel regarding meals!

“If you could please let people know that our meal service is between 6.00pm and 8.30pm and that all of the Menu is available to takeaway. Our phone number is 86 272 888 for any table bookings OR takeaway orders.”

Now – if you check out their socials and the pics of their food – their food looks awesome and we can’t thank them enough for looking after the SA motorcycling family!

DANNY REILLY MEMORIAL FEATURE RACES RETURN THIS WEEKEND

The Tea Tree Gully MX VMX day features a special end of day events in memory of Danny Reilly. (From Nev Mitchell) Danny was a MX racer that myself and my mates all knew from our days living in Windsor Gardens, we all admired him. So having said that I hope we see plenty of entries. Below is a pic of some of the trophies for this weekend’s racing at TTG:

Remember the Vintage Class is up to & including Evolution bikes (so that’s Pre70, Pre75, Pre78, Evo), so if you bike is air cooled, non-linkage & drum brakes, then you’re in!!!

The junior class is for 125cc 2 stroke/250cc 4 stroke 13 – under 16 years of age as per the supp regs.

FYI, the bottle of red is not included but only there as a size reference of the trophies for you all to salivate over.

So who will get their name on the inaugural Danny Reilly Memorial Vintage MX shield (not pictured – it’s a surprise!)???

RIGHT – HERE IS THE RUNDOWN ON ALL OF THE EVENTS FOR THIS WEEKEND – AND A COUPLE OF REMINDERS AT THE END ABOUT ENTRIES BEING OPEN FOR A COUPLE OF EVENTS NEXT WEEKEND!

 WELCOME:

On behalf of the Gawler Motorcycle Club, I would like to welcome everyone to the first two rounds of the 2021 Nitschke Energy SA Off Road Championships.

We are now living in a new normal so please log into our QR code, follow COVID-19 safe where possible and follow our spectator guidelines.

The Gawler MCC was formed in 1925 to cater for early 24 Hour Trial events. We are a proud club with a decorated history of producing elite riders in all disciplines of motorcycle racing. The club has hosted many SAORC rounds in the past with several of them being voted best rounds of the series, we are planning not to disappoint with our return to the Coonalpyn district.

SAORC would not be possible without the generous landowners who allow us to use their properties to enjoy our sport. None more the Heinrich family. David and Karen have welcomed us back bigger and better. There assistance in preparation and hosting club members whist setting up the event is much appreciated by all of us. We need to think our land owners and leave only footprints and ruts and not our rubbish when we leave.

We are returning to the runway paddock from 2014 with many new tracks linking old tracks to create a 21km cross country loop. Jordan and Todd Heinrich have put in a huge effort to create this awesome loop, so we must all thank them when we bump into them throughout the weekend. If you see a plane flying round, there’s a good chance one of them is taking a lucky punter for a joy flight. Gawler MCC thanks the Heinrichs for their continued support.

Many local businesses are needed to make the weekend as comfortable as possible for us all, so I would like to thank:

Nicks Gourmet Kitchen for catering

         Mrs Sippy for the coffee truck

         JB Hire for the toilets

         Jason Rumpling for shower hire

Gawler MCC have jumped in at the 11th hr to host rounds 1/2 of the SAORC. With a little over 6 weeks preparation for this event we must thank Andrew Krieg and Peter Stevens for their drive and enthusiasm in helping to keep the series alive. We could not host these rounds without the army of volunteers from our great club. Many people help throughout the event, sometimes too many to thank personally. From the track markers to the event pack up crews and all in between we thank you very much for a great event.

Hope all riders a safe and enjoyable ride over the weekend

Cheers

Anton Seifert

Club President

SA WOMEN’S CUP & DIENER/HOLMES SIDECAR TROPHY HEAD UP A HUGE WEEKEND!

May 13, 2021 Filed Under: Enduro, Motocross, News, Road Racing, SA Women in Motorcycling, Trials

SA WOMEN’S CUP & DIENER/HOLMES SIDECAR TROPHY HEAD UP A HUGE WEEKEND!

The first event in SA motorcycling history to have the girls and women headline the event, the Rockhopping SA 2021 SA Women’s Cup & Diener/Holmes Sidecar Trophy for Trial, hosted by the Keyneton MCC headline a huge weekend of action, across many disciplines of the sport.

Being run on Long Gully Road at Angaston from 9.00am Sunday, this event also features free entry for spectators, who will be able to wander around between the sections and watch some of SA’s awesome trials talent.

Leading the way is current Australia #2 (2019) in Open Women and Junior Women U13, Lillie Yiatrou and Charlotte Cowan, with Lillie also a 2 time Australian representative, and the reigning MSA Rising Star. Also in the field is 2018 Australian U13 Champion, Alisha Harry and Under 11 #1 from 2019, Ashley Barwick, again showing how much SA leads the country in Junior Women.

And due to the nature of Trial, and only 1 bike on the course (section) at one time, juniors can compete in senior classes in direct competition, with the Sport Women (formally C Grade) Class being made up of all junior riders, Charlotte, Alisha and Hayley Stephen.

At the other end of the field, look for the Long sisters, Chelsea & Cadance, both riding in Junior B Girls in their first SA Women’s Cup in 2021, and with dad, Aaron, and grandfather, David, also in the field, it shows that Trial is very much a family affair!

The Diener/Holmes Sidecar Trophy will also feature a number of female passengers, led by 2016 Australian Champion, Melissa Rogers, onboard with Steve Rees, the very team that won the Australian Championship in 2016. Look out also for the husband & wife team of Adrian & Tanya Harry, and the father & daughter team of Greg & Anna Rogers (who are having their first ride together).

There will also be a full field of support classes in action, led by Trial 1 riders, and Australian Champions, Connor Hogan (and Trial2 World Championship competitor & multi time Australian representative) and Haydon Barwick, along with juniors Hayden Eardley (2018 U13 Australian Champion) and Carl Henschke taking it on in the senior classes, and a heap of junior riders in action as well – there will be something for everyone to watch!

Although there is free entry for spectators, there is no catering for this event, so bring a picnic lunch and sit under one of the many gum trees to watch the action.

The event will also be preceded by a Come & Try Day on the Saturday – at the same venue – from 10.00am to 4.00pm, mainly for the girls and women, but open to all.

ALSO ON – MOTOCROSS, SIDECAR-CROSS, ENDURO, ROAD RACE, ACUSA PARK, RIDE PARKS – IT’S ALL HAPPENING

Also on this weekend there are a number of Clubs around the state that have gates open – check out the list below, but a couple of highlights are;

  • The opening round of the ASA Sidecar-cross & Quads Series at Murray Bridge, and,
  • The opening round of Mud N Tars Club Series, which also features the Slur feature race, a 30 minute moto – with the Parawa Track looking awesome for this weekend’s event.

Entries for both of these events, and many others, are still open, so get around it and get out and support the clubs doing the hard yards preparing their venues – see the pics below of the awesome track prep at Parawa!!

For those who like sliding their knees around corners – head out to Mallala this Sunday for another great Ride Day – and you never know, you may like it so much, that a competition license becomes you and you get racing!

The SAROC Committee are also excited to announce a brand new Naming Rights partner for both, the junior and senior Championships for 2021, and it’s a warm welcome, and a big thank you, to Nitschke Energy, for their commitment to the 2021 Championship.

The SAORC Committee also welcome, as a Gold Sponsor to the Championship, Nutrien Ag Solutions, another new partner to the Championship in 2021, and welcome back WSB Distributors and KTM from last year’s Championship as Silver partners, along with Kessner Motorcycles and Robinson Brothers as Bronze partners.

The SAORC are pleased to see new partners coming in to support the Championship, and the continued support from long term partners, giving the Championship a great support from which to continue to grow.

The 2021 Championship is once again a 7 round series, which encompasses much of South Australia’s central and southern regions, will be a combination of Cross County and Sprint events, and will culminate with a combined round of the 2021 Australian Off Road Championship at the awesome Kingston SE venue, with round 5 also the round for the 2021 Club Team Challenge.

All rounds will feature onsite camping, at least for competitors, and, at this stage, will be fully catered, with some great spectating areas, but it must be said, that all of the current COVID-19 restrictions at the time of each round will need to be implemented.

Here is the full Championship series for 2021, with venues and contact numbers;

WHO TO WATCH OUT FOR

The 2021 Championship will once again feature most of the usual suspects from the last few years, but with a few new combatants that have just arrived out of juniors, so the action on the track should make for some great spectating through the year!

Riley Graham will once again be back to defend his #1 plate from 2020, with the likes of Cooper Sheidow, Jayden Rudd, Sean Throup and Luke Bunnik once again trying to knock him off the top step of the podium, but this year add into the mix the likes of 2020 juniors, Alex Krieg, Carl Nitschke, Alex Head, Chad Sparrow and, 2020 Junior Rider of the Year, Royden Harrold, who will all be out to mix it with the established guns!

In the senior age classes, again watch out for the ever improving Rowan Pumpa and Peter Rudd to perhaps dominate their classes, especially if their early AORC form is anything to go by, as both are right in the mix for National honours in 2021, while Chloe Barton will once again lead a strong field of women into battle, and if her AORC form is anything to go by, she may be hard to beat in 2021!

But, it might just be the junior classes will be the ones to watch in 2021, as the Rising Stars, or Tomorrow’s Champions, show just what talent SA has at the present time, so get around these fantastic kids and watch them in action at all of the rounds!

The Gear brothers have set the AORC radar to ‘alert’ after round 1, with Ollie leading the J2 Class after going 2 from 2 at round 1 to lead the Championship, with older brother Davey in a podium position on day 1 in J3, before a crash put him out for the weekend, so he will be itching to bounce back from that – and will also have Thomas Lambert and Wil Carpenter to deal with on the track!

Also keep an eye out for the J3 guns from 2020, Clay Burnett, Seth Carpenter, Oliver Pitchford and Max Midwinter (currently 7th in J4 at the AORC), as they look to try and grab the #1 plate for juniors here in SA in 2021.

The Junior Women’s Class is also on offer for 2021, with Emily Lambert and SAMX gun, Emma Haylock, keen to get some rounds in, and with some quality competition, so the challenge is there to all of the SA Motocross & Enduro girls – get those entries in and get around the 2021 Championship.

SO, it’s time to fire up – round 1 entries are open and Coonalpyn is only a short month away – and one of the best things about the 2021 Championship; no rounds will require registered or permitted bikes – SO – motorcycles in motocross trim will be allowed!

TEAM SA – RIPPING IT UP AT ROUNDS 1 & 2 OF THE 2021 AORC!

TEAM SA – RIPPING IT UP AT ROUNDS 1 & 2 OF THE 2021 AORC!

A large team from South Australia headed over the border for last weekend’s opening 2 rounds of the 2021 Yamaha Australian Off-Road Championship, presented by MXstore, at Golden Beach, Victoria, which saw Australia’s best senior and junior talent on display for the season starters.

14 South Australia’s fronted the starter, made up of 4 junior and 10 senior riders, including expat Will Price, who now resides in Victoria.

To say that Team SA left their mark on the sandy and dry and dusty conditions would be a slight understatement, as after the dust had settled, Oliie Gear (J2) and Peter Rudd (EM – Masters) are leading the Australian Championship chase – a huge well done to them both, and we look forward to following their progress as the Championship unfolds!

Also in the chase for AORC honours with top 10 finishes are;
Rowan Pumpa, 4th overall in Vets – Veterans
Will Price, 5th overall in E1
Alex Krieg, 6th overall in EJ
Chloe Barton, 6th in EW – Women
Max Midwinter, 7th in J4                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            Cooper Shiedow, 8th in E2
Luke Bunnik, 9th in E3

Davey Gear was also well in the mix in the J3 Class, until crashing out of 3rd place on day 1 put him out for the rest of the weekend! Look out at the next round though!

Full results;

The Team SA comraderie was also out in full force, with a great support team looking after all of the riders over the weekend, in the pits and cheering them on to the great results gained!

Some of the riders are now looking towards round 1 of the 2021 SA Motocross Championships this coming weekend at Gillman, while some will be looking to round 1 of the 2021 Tri-Series on May 9th at Eden Valley, the Rounds 1 & 2 of the 2021 South Australian Off Road Championship on June 5th & 6th at Coonalpyn, before heading to Kyogle in NSW over the weekend of July 17 & 18 for rounds 3 and 4 of the 2021 Australian Off Road Championship.
