2019 EP SERIES (FOR MOTOCROSS); A GREAT SUCCESS FOR THE WEST!

2019 EP SERIES; A GREAT SUCCESS FOR THE WEST!

South Australia’s west coast clubs have held the 2019 EP Series (Eyre Peninsula) for motocross and was well supported over the three rounds, hosted by the Port Lincoln, West Coast (Ceduna) and Whyalla clubs. Riders from as far as Crystal Brook, Roxby Downs and Adelaide attended each meeting that helped bring rider numbers to almost 150 for the series, and all commented how much fun they had riding at the country clubs. This is a true reflection of the hospitality of the members and the hard work they all put into the preparation and running of the Series.

All three clubs had tough weather conditions to deal with due to event being run in the heat of a drought, with no rain to assist with dust control so endless amounts of water, read truck loads, went into each track, but it was a battle.

Pt Lincoln rebuilt its track with a new layout that proved to be a winner with all competitors enjoying the more flowing and new passing opportunities available. National rider Izac Maule came and competed and showed how fast a MX bike can be ridden with fellow riders and spectators amazed at his skills.

Ceduna (West Coast MCC) hosted round two and was a good practice run for their South Australian Championship round later this year and also had a top national rider Daniel Banks attend. Daniel rode with great speed and style to take the win and as always looked very smooth and casual while on the bike.

Whyalla was the last round and this was where all the hard work for the riders added up to their well-earned titles and for the annual club shield to be presented. All classes were hotly contested with some amazing racing throughout the whole series and to all riders’ credit done cleanly without any incidents between competitors.

A huge thanks, from all 3 clubs, must go out to all the people that helped at each event, without these dedicated volunteers the series simply wouldn’t happen, with the interclub assistance amazing to see.

Also to all of the sponsors that helped each club, it is always desperately needed and greatly appreciated by all involved.

The 2019 EP Series final results are;

MX1 1ST SIEGAH WARD   MX2 INT 1ST RHYS KEMP
2ND ZAC HOFFRICHTER     2ND JARED HOFFRICHTER
3RD ROHAN LAMBEFF     3RD BRETT RAE

450cc INT 1ST ADAM SPIKIN   CLUB 450cc 1ST MARK PHILLIPS
2ND JESSE KEMP     2ND PHIL TABONE
3RD MATT VLACHOULIS     3RD JASON RAE

VETERANS 1ST ADAM McLEAN   JUNIOR 125cc 1ST JACK SECKER
2ND CLINT LETTON     2ND JAMAYAH CRAIG
3RD NATHAN MILLER     3RD JACK LIENERT

85cc BIG WHEEL 1ST BANJO LAWRENCE   65cc 9-U12 1ST KOBY MILLER
  2ND CAMPBELL O’BRIEN     2ND SARI LETTON
3RD BEN DIXON     3RD BLAKE PHILLIPS

65cc 7-9 YEARS 1ST LEVI ROSS   50cc DIV 2 1ST TAO LETTON
2ND SAM DIXON     2ND KYLAN MILLER
          3RD BLAKE SMITH

The overall Club points went to Pt Lincoln with six class wins five second placings and two third places so a big congratulations to those riders from Pt Lincoln club.

Whyalla came in second place with Ceduna in third position but at the end of the day it only really mattered about the riders’ enjoyment and the spirit between the fellow country clubs,

All 3 of the Eyre Peninsula Clubs extend the invitation to any riders in the state to come and ride their club days. Or if you like compete in our next EP Series we are sure you will be surprised at the competition and hospitality available .

THIS EASTER WEEKEND IN SOUTH AUSTRALIA!

So, what’s on in South Oz this Easter weekend – well, there’s a bit on to satisfy most really!

Let’s have a look!

Saturday night – Final Sidewinders meeting for the season – the President’s Cup & ANZAC meeting

For those not in the know, Sidewinders is a junior speedway club for children aged 4 years to 16 years. They race 125cc solos, 250cc sidecars, and mini bikes.

Join them for their ANZAC and Presidents Cup meeting. A meeting in honour of our ANZACs and to present the Presidents Trophy.

This is their last meeting of the season, so let’s support their juniors who have made the Sidewinders season such a success.

Gates open at 4.30pm with the pits open until practise starts for all to have a wander amongst the bikes. Full canteen open all night and easy access for all.

North Terrace, Wingfield – the venue to see tomorrow’s champions in action – today!

Friday to Sunday – Mount Gambier’s Mac Park hosts the 2nd round of the SA Road Race Championships, which is run alongside the Easter Cup

Easter weekend will see McNamara Park Raceway come alive with round 2 of the SA Road race Championships run in conjunction with the BEARS National Challenge and the annual Mac Park Easter Cup.

Strong fields will be contesting all classes so the racing should again prove spectacular.

Last year’s winner and current State Championship leader William Strugnell will again be the rider to beat, but several local riders will be looking for good results.

Mac Park regulars Darren Trotter and Rusty Crane will line up on their 1000cc Superbikes and hope their experience and track knowledge will work in their favour.

Australian Superbike Championship Supersport contender Dallas Skeer will again line up, and with his experience in the national series will be looking to go one better than his runner up spot in 2018.

Qualifying will take place on Saturday morning with racing starting around midday and continuing all day Sunday, concluding with the Easter Cup feature race.

As usual, the canteen will be open all weekend with bar facilities available in the afternoons. Entry is $10.00 per day or $15.00 for the weekend.

Saturday & Sunday – Port Pirie host their annual King of the Gulf MX

Port Pirie host the SA motocross season opener & its first major event for the year – the Port Pirie MCC’s annual Easter pilgrimage to their track for the long running ‘King of the Gulf’ meeting – which will also feature the ‘Prince of the Gulf’ and ‘Classic King of the Gulf’ events as well – plus the running of the 2019 ‘SA Women’s Motocross Cup’!

The Port Pirie Club are also excited to announce some great partnerships for all 4 feature events in 2019, and thank them for their continued support of these events, the Port Pirie MCC and motorcycle sport here in SA;

King of the Gulf; Boats & Bikes Port Pirie

SA Women’s Motocross Cup; Hallett Concrete

Prince of the Gulf; Nyrstar

Classic King of the Gulf; Smart Refrigeration

Where else would you rather be at Easter – great viewing to be had at this family friendly venue, and, the awesome Port Pirie canteen will be in action all weekend with hold & cold food & drinks, and there will also be full bar facilities.

Best ‘Do a Molly’ – and – do yourself a favour and get to any of these great events over the Easter weekend!!

Also –

A large(ish) contingent of the Trials SA crew will be making the long trek to ride the Glenmaggie Easter Trial, at Glenmaggie, just the other side of Traralgon in South East Victoria, which is Australia’s biggest yearly trial outside of the Australian Championships, and on an amazing property that is the traditional home of the event. A great way to kick off the season of trials for many riders around the country.

Good luck also to all of our South Australian speedway sidecar teams that have made, or are making the long trek north for this weekend’s Australian Junior & Senior Sidecar Championships, which are being held at Pioneer Park Speedway, which is in Brendon in Queensland. A long drive after the World Cup & Oceania Championships, to end what has been a full on season for the teams.

Plus;

Broadford is on as well!

With the Easter long weekend fast approaching, the Shannons Insurance Broadford Bike Bonanza (SIBBB) is once again high on the lists of many as a ‘must see’!

The 2019 SIBBB runs from 19-21 April at the Broadford State Motorcycle Complex, Victoria.

Don’t delay on this fantastic opportunity to see featured, some of Australia’s most prestigious competitors, including Jason and Phil Crump!

The SIBBB is also bringing out an amazing number of sidecars this year. What started as an idea to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the release of the Honda 750/4 morphed into the golden question: “Did you know the first Honda 750 in Australia brought in ahead of the official release was destined for a sidecar motor?”

Landing upon such a substantially valuable nugget of information kicked the Motorcycling Australia Museum & Heritage Committee into action, introducing a new three wheeled push at the annual Shannons Insurance Broadford Bike Bonanza (SIBBB).

The 2019 SIBBB will showcase sidecars from a variety of disciplines and coveted eras, with the different eras of development characterized by the era in which they were originally made.

Stay tuned on all SIBBB news and updates as they roll in via the Motorcycling Australia website, Facebook and Instagram. Be sure to follow the SIBBB Facebook page for further real time updates!
