And with the Under 16 125cc Australian Championship to be held on this same track over the weekend of April 1-3, this will be the last chance for our local riders to have a serious hit out before hand – so look for this to be a meeting of high quality and one not to miss!

The Australian Championships will be held over the first three days of April, with Practise & Qualifying on the Friday, the Individual Championship on Saturday and the Teams Championship on Sunday – it will be a serious weekend of awesome action from Australia’s finest junior riders – and could those present be watching a future World Champion in action!

SA RIDERS ROCKING THE ISLAND AT ROUND 1 OF ASBK 2022!

SA RIDERS ROCKING THE ISLAND AT ROUND 1 OF ASBK 2022!

SA’s road race crew certainly kicked off 2022 with some great results at round 1 of ASBK 2022 – the mi-bike Motorcycle Insurance Australian Superbike Championship, presented by Motul at the mecca of Australian Road Race, Phillip Island over the last weekend in February!

10 South Aussies, plus a truck load of team members, family members and supporters, made the trek, and if round 1 is anything to go by, there are a number of Croweaters that will challenge for podiums and race wins in 2022, and perhaps even an Australian Championship podium by seasons end.

And – as all, or most of our riders have social media pages, here are the ones that we know of so far, so check out their reports and thoughts on how their season has started!

RESULTS;             https://www.computime.com.au/Default

Do just need to highlight a couple of amazing results though;

Cameron Rende – the 2021 MSA Rising Star nominee became the first South Aussie rider to score an Oceania Junior Cup race win, and now sits second in the Championship after the first round – and this was his first official round as a member of the Cup, his only previous rides were as a wildcard at The Bend last December at The Bend! HUGE CONGRATS CAM!

Olly Simpson – the 2012 MSA Rising Star had his first rides on a 600cc Supersport on the weekend and now sits 3rd in the Championships after a solid round, just in front of fellow South Aussie, Ty Lynch.

Dan Falzon – broken femur at the start of December at The Bend to sitting 5th in the Superbike Championship after round 1 some 3 months later – huge recovery from Dan, lets see what he can do with further recovery!

ROUND 2– QUEENSLAND RACEWAY 18-20 MARCH 2022 – get your live stream sorted – and word is there may be an extra South Aussie rider or 2 to cheer on from round 2 as well – so good to see so much excitement around our local riders in 2022 as they chase National goals!

TROY Series SA – round 1 & 2 ENTRIES – ARE NOW OPEN!

February 27, 2022 Filed Under: News, SA Women in Motorcycling, Trials

TROY Series SA – round 1 & 2 ENTRIES – ARE NOW OPEN!

Rounds 1 and 2 of TROY Series SA 2022 have now been opened on Ridernet, the AJS MTC’s Frank Tuck Trial at Victor Harbor on Sunday, April 10th and the return of the Juventus MCC to TROY, with The Xtreme Trials Trial at a brand new venue at Mount Pleasant on Sunday May, 1st.

And as has happened in previous years, there will be a gap after round 2, so a number of special events can happen – not least the AJS MTC’s iconic Peter Sparkes Trophy event and the Keyneton MCC’s Mountain Man Trial – being run this year as the SA Women’s Cup & Diener/Holmes Sidecar Trophy. Check out the full calendar below!

All events will have Saturday night camping available, contact the event contact on the sup regs (now available on the Motorcycling SA website) for the details, and what else will be offered in relation to each round – camping , catering, Saturday coaching, etc. These will be different at each round, so contact the organisers to be sure!

In regards to riding conditions and classes, there are not many changes to 2022 – but what has been changed should be good for the sport and numbers at events, and also help with our Clubs, and their members who organise the events and the paperwork for them!

TROY Series SA 2022 will once again be a 5 round series that will complement the AMX Superstores 2022 South Australian Trial Championships in September and will feature some of SA’s finest Trial’s terrain, with the 5 rounds for 2022 being;

R Date Club Event Address – of event
1 Sunday April 10 AJS Moto Trial Club of SA The Frank Tuck Trial 3445 Range Road, Back Valley, via Victor Harbor
2 Sunday May 1 Juventus Motorcycle Club The Xtreme Trials Trial Pleasant Sense Farm, 736 Angas Rd, Mt Pleasant
3 Sunday July 31 Gawler Motorcycle Club The Max Graetz Trial Palmer Road, Tungkillo
4 Sunday August 14 Team H & AJS MTC of SA The Woolshed Trial Mungeree Homestead, 1173 Bridle Track, Bangor
5 Sunday August 28 Velocette Motorcycle Club The Black Mud Trial Ngapala Road, Willoughby Hills, via Robertstown

FIRST CHANGE FOR 2022 – TRIAL 6!

It has been decided that from 2022 there will be a new class added to all events – Trial 6 – which will be run over the black line and will be for those entering the sport and want to ride for reward (so not non-comp), and those senior riders (age) who just want to have a fun ride, but still test themselves without the Monday morning aches and pains.

So the full list of classes for 2022 are;

·         GREEN TRIAL 1
·         RED  TRIAL 2 SIDECAR 1
·         YELLOW TRIAL 3 SIDECAR 2
·         BLUE TRIAL 4 HISTORIC BLUE
·         WHITE TRIAL 5 HISTORIC WHITE JUNIOR A (boys & girls)
·         BLACK TRIAL 6 SIDECAR CLASSIC JUNIOR B (boys & girls)
·         ORANGE NON COMP SOLO NON COMP SIDECAR MINI TRIAL

The colours listed above are also the line each class rides, with the green line being the most challenging, or for the expert riders, down to the black line for the novice riders, with orange being run of section for the newest of riders – so Trial is definitely the discipline that caters for riders of all ages and abilities.

Sidecar 1 & 2 also ride to separate red/white & black/yellow lines, not the single colour as listed above.

TROY Series SA classes will be as per previous years – and will combine some classes, with the lowest point score on the day getting the TROY points, with the classes being;

·         RED  TRIAL 1 & TRIAL 2
·         PINK SENIOR WOMEN & JUNIOR GIRLS
·         YELLOW TRIAL 3
·         BLUE TRIAL 4
·         WHITE JUNIOR A & JUNIOR B
·         BLACK & WHITE TRIAL 5, TRIAL 6 & THE HISTORIC CLASSES
·         RED & WHITE SIDECAR 1, SIDECAR 2 & SIDECAR CLASSIC

SELF SCRUTINEERING;

Self-scrutineering will take place at ALL events in 2022 – with the self-scrutineering attached to all sup regs, as well as being separately emailed to all riders upon entry. Riders have to print off the form and bring it to sign on at events – no form, no ride! But, Scrutineers will still check up to 10% of all bikes, as well as ALL helmets.

ENTRIES FOR 2022!

Entries will be open at least 4 weeks before each round and will CLOSE at 11.00 pm on the Tuesday before each round, and only entries received through the Ridernet system will be accepted.

Late entries; MAY be accepted for an extra 24 hours, also through Ridernet, with a late fee of $20.00 per entry, so to 11.00pm Wednesday, as listed below.

ENTRIES CLOSE LATE ENTRIES CLOSE
·         Round 1 – Tuesday, April 5th Wednesday, April 6th
·         Round 2 – Tuesday April 26th Wednesday, April 27th
·         Round 3 – Tuesday, July 26th Wednesday, July 27th
·         Round 4 – Tuesday, August 9th Wednesday, August 10th
·         Round 5 – Tuesday, August 23rd Wednesday, August 24th

This is a full 2 days earlier that what has happened in previous years, and has been designed to help clubs get their paperwork organised, as well as score cards and the scoring program, in plentiful time before their event.

And in some exciting early news for the Series, the AJS MTC have confirmed that the Frank Tuck Trial will once again have great support from the brilliant people at Scarpantoni Wines, and we thank Michael and his family for their continued support of trials in SA, and of the Frank Tuck!

The Series will also receive great support from Greg Knight and his Rockhopping SA crew – contact him now for all of your 2022 needs – or catch him at an event with his mobile showroom!

THIS SATURDAY NIGHT – THE 2022 GRAHAM BAKER SHIELD AT SIDEWINDERS!

THIS SATURDAY NIGHT – THE 2022 GRAHAM BAKER SHIELD AT SIDEWINDERS!

Nominations are now CLOSED for the 2022 Graham Baker Shield, one of the iconic events held each summer at Sidewinders U16 Junior Speedway each summer – because the event is on THIS COMING Saturday night – February 19th!

The Memorial Shield honours Graham Baker who, along with Roy Bitmead, had the vision and foresight to build a stand-alone junior speedway track and club (Sidewinders) more than 40 years ago in Wingfield, and chances are the 2022 running will be another epic event in the history of the Shield!

And with the Under 16 125cc Australian Championship to be held on this same track over the weekend of April 1-3, this will be one of the last chances for our local riders to have a serious hit out before hand – so look for this to be a meeting of high quality and one not to miss!

HERE IS THE NEED TO KNOW FOR SATURDAY NIGHT;

ENTRY, Adults – $5.00 only through the gate (kids under 16 are FREE)

Programme – $3.00

Gates, open @ 6.00pm

Pit walk, strictly from 6.00pm – 7.00pm only!

THE 2022 GRAHAM BAKER SHIELD – THE FIELD

Kobi Canning

Hayden Pascoe

Jordan Hargreaves

Cooper Antone (NSW)

Ashley Jansen Batchelor

Hayden Kuchel

Harry Sadler

Darcey Timmis

Ambrose Fraser (Vic)

Who to watch!

Leading the charge, and hoping to go back-to-back  wins will be Ashley Jansen-Batchelor, with the 2021 MSA Rising Star nominee saying about his 2021 win, “I am so proud and honoured to have won this race. Graham Baker was one of the founding fathers of our club and without people like him, we would not have this amazing track to race on,” he said. “This race is special to me because the Baker family has played a major role in my speedway journey and believed in me very early in my career.”

Hot on his heels will be the newly crowned 2021/22 South Australian Champion, and 2021 MSA Rising Star finalist for speedway, Harry Sadler, who will be looking to add to his 2020 Memorial Shield win and to get himself ready for a serious tilt at the Australian Championship, as, of course, will Ashley!

It’s also no surprise at all to see that a couple of interstaters, in  Cooper Antone from NSW and Victorian Ambose Fraser have snuck across the border, to try and grab some SA silverware, and to get in some track time before the Australian Championship in April!

And then when you add in even more local talent, like SA #4 Kobi Canning and 2021 MSA Rising Star nominee Darcey Timmis, why would you want to be anywhere else come Saturday week?

Support classes!

Keep an eye on the support classes as well during the night – with a number of outstanding juniors coming up through the ranks, and looking like they will have big futures in the sport – and especially the likes of Rory Schlein and Riley Stout in the Novice Class.

Also have a look at the Pee Wee’s – these guys & girls are the long term future of the sport and deserve a huge cheer after every ‘race’ (demo), with the smiles inside the helmets saying more than words can! If you have a youngster (under 9) who would like to ride on Saturday nights, give the Sidewinders Club a call to get all the details!

PLUS – GIRLS – HEADS UP FOR THE AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS

HERE IS YOUR CHANCE TO MAKE AUSTRALIAN SPEEDWAY HISTORY!

Sidewinders are looking for at least eight (8) junior girls! If the club can get 8 girls to nominate for the Australian Junior Championships in April, they will run a support class with girls’ only races. So, if you are keen to be a part of Australian speedway history and start the road to the girls having their own championship – nominate your interest today with; Adam Possingham – apossingham@gmail.com

2022 MOTORCYCLING SA LEVEL 1 COACHES COURSES – DATES ANNOUNCED

February 16, 2022 Filed Under: All disciplines, Coaches, News, SA Women in Motorcycling

2022 MOTORCYCLING SA LEVEL 1 COACHES COURSES – DATES ANNOUNCED

  • Are you 18 years of age?
  • Do you want to put back into the sport and help find and nurture tomorrow’s champions?
  • Keen to see the joy you can put on the face of one or more of tomorrow’s champions?
  • Want to find out how full-filling coaching tomorrow’s champions can be?
  • Want to play a role in helping a young rider become a champion today?
  • Want to feel the pride when ‘your’ rider is presented with an Australian Championship medal?
  • Well – here is your chance to start yourself on an exciting new motorcycling journey!

Motorcycling SA is excited to announce that, on the back of the well supported 2021 Level 1 Coaches Course held late last year, that for 2022 there will be three (3) courses held – and that 2 of them will be held in regional areas.

And here are the dates and locations of the 2022 Level 1 Coaches Courses;

West                     June 25 & 26                      Kimba MX Track (To be held in conjunction with round 4 of the EP Series)

South                    September 3 & 4              Keith MX Track (Andy Caldecott Park)

Central                 November 5 & 6               MSA Hall & Junior Development Park @ Wingfield

This course covers all of our disciplines – dirt track, enduro, motocross, reliability trial, road race, speedway & trial – with the practical portion of the course being able to be tailored (in part) to each discipline.

Register on the coaches’ page on MSA website; https://www.motorcyclingsa.org.au/coaches-and-officials with registrations to open on March 1st and remain open until each class, unless a maximum number is met (20).

PLEASE NOTE; COUNTRY COURSES WILL NEED A MINIMUM OF 10 CONFIRMED NAMES TO GO AHEAD!

While it can look a little daunting, becoming a coach is not that hard, attend the course, fill out the forms, do an online course and get a couple of checks – all of which you will be helped through by Motorcycling SA – see below for a more detailed description of your journey to becoming a Level 1 Coach.

GAINING A MOTORCYCLE SPORT COACHING ACCREDITATION

In order to gain a Motorcycle Sport Coaching Licence you will be required to:

  • Demonstrate practical experience in relation to motorcycle riding, together with a sound knowledge of motorcycle riding technique
  • Satisfy any pre-requisites for attending the coaching course
    • Obtain a General Principles certificate from the Australian Sports Commission Community Coaching General Principles program
  • Attend, complete and successfully pass all requirements of the coaching course
  • Complete any post course assessments
  • Ensure you have a Working with Children Check (WWCC). This can be done through Motorcycling SA at no charge if you have never had a check done.
  • Complete and return the appropriate licence application form to the Relevant Controlling Body.
  • It is also highly recommended that a coach hold a current “Provide First Aid” qualification, as it is a requirement that, at a minimum, this must be available at ALL coaching events.

AFTER THE COURSE

After the requirements of the course have been lodged with the MSA Office, the coach will be accredited with a Level 0 Coach Licence, and will be able to do the following;

LEVEL 0 COACHES

  • Can only conduct Kick Start Coaching and can only take out a permit on behalf of a Club for a Kick Start event.
  • Cannot take out a permit for themselves, run a coaching day OR conduct endorsement coaching.
  • Can coach a maximum of six people at a time during Kick Start.
  • Assist with Level 1 & Level 2 Coaches at Coaching Days & Come & Try Days

Once the probation period of 20 hours has been completed (with the hours attending the course included in this 20 hours), the coach will then be upgraded to Level 1, where they will be able to do the following;

LEVEL 1 COACHES

  • Can;
    • Take out their own Permits
    • Run Coaching Days
    • Conduct Endorsement Coaching
    • Kick Start Coaching
    • And complete Supercross Endorsements
  • Can coach a maximum of six people at a time, unless with a Level 2 Coach where they can then coach up to ten people at a time.

SUPPORT

  • All coaches will be able to call the MSA Office for assistance with permits, coaching reports and any and all queries
  • Motorcycling SA will also endeavour to offer and supply ongoing education and upskilling opportunities as they arise, whether this is through Motorcycling Australia, or outside (of the sport) options, such as Sport SA, SASI & the AIS.

EXPIRED COACHING LICENCE?

Looking through the records, there are almost 100 coaches who have let their licences lapse over time. If you have held a Coach Licence in the past, and would like to renew and get back into it, just register to attend one of these courses as a refresher, and get back working within this great sport.
