DECLAN CARBERRY’S SUCCESSFUL END TO 2021! ROUND 4 SOUTH AUSTRALIAN ROAD RACE CHAMPIONSHIPS

November 30, 2021 Filed Under: News, Road Racing, State Championship

DECLAN CARBERRY’S SUCCESSFUL END TO 2021!

ROUND 4 SOUTH AUSTRALIAN ROAD RACE CHAMPIONSHIPS

Over the weekend I competed in round 4, the final round of the 2021 SA Championships at Tailem Bend.

The racing was held at the East Track. This was the first time a race meet had been held here.

The race meet started with practice on Friday. What can I say but ‘WOW’, what an amazing circuit. I had a great time learning the track and got my head around it fairly quickly and totally loving the 22 corners over the 3.9kms.

Saturday was qualifying and race 1.

Qualifying; I went out for qualifying with a fresh rear tyre. I was feeling great so I pushed to go fast and did a 1.44 which put me on pole.

Second qualifying I went out to check if the changes to the bike setup we made worked or made it worse, but it made it so much better.

Race 1; I had a great start, one of the best I have had in ages and I lead from start to finish and learnt some new lines and had a great race.

Sunday was races 2 & 3.

Sunday we went straight into racing with no warm up.

Race 2 was great! I had a blast, lead from the start to finish and was such a good race. I had a few moments but kept it all together and did another best lap time again.

Race 3; I had a good start, but so did everyone else. I had a great run into turn 1 and started going for it. I had a great race and finished in 1st. I was so excited I did a nice stand up wheelie to celebrate finishing off the weekend and to take the 600 Supersport South Australian Championship, my first in seniors.

The Tim Inkster Cup; To finish off the race meet I entered in the Tim Inkster Cup feature race.  I was the only 600cc machine in it but qualified in second place on the grid. I had a great start and lead from turn 1 to turn 4 where I had a little whoopsie with a fellow rider but was all good nothing too bad.

I had such a great race following the older and more experienced riders putting in some great laps and learning new lines. I also did the best lap times for the weekend bettering my 600cc class times with a 1.43.596. One second slower than the winning 1000 Superbike of Jack Davis.

The icing on the cake for the weekend was at the presentations being awarded the Steve Smiley Kerr Perpetual 600 Trophy. I was so speechless and what an honour.

I had such a great weekend and can’t thank the team and my family enough. To everyone who helps big or small can’t thank you all enough it means a lot to me.

Thanks for your support.

November 28, 2021 Filed Under: News, SA Women in Motorcycling, Speedway, State Championship

SA JUNIOR SOLO CHAMPIONSHIP ON THIS SATURDAY NIGHT AT SIDEWINDERS SPEEDWAY
This Saturday night, December 4th, sees Sidewinders Speedway at Wingfield host the 2021 South Australian Junior Solo Championship, and if the early events of the 2021/22 season are anything to go by, this will be an event NOT to miss!
The charge will be led by MSA Rising Star Award nominees, Harry Sadler, Ashley Jansen-Batchelor and Darcey Timmis (pictured right, but unfortunately Allegra Laanekorb will be missing due to injury), but they will need to watch out for the interstate visitors Beau Bailey & Riley Plum, with the recent border restrictions making way for an exciting Championship!
Only $5.00 for adults through the gate (kids under 16 are FREE), and with one of SA’s finest canteens open all night, and led by MSA Regional Volunteer Award recipient, Brian Tickle, you won’t get better value for money anywhere in SA – and across many sports as well! (Just don’t forget the Aerogard in case the mozzies decide to come and watch as well!)
SO – come and make some noise for your favourite riders.
Travis Clarke, Hayden Pascoe, Ambrose Fraser, Harry Sadler, Hayden Kuchel, Alex Adamson, Darcey Timmis, Beau Bailey, Seth Pascoe, Ashley Jansen-Batchelor, Jordan Hargreaves, Kobi Canning, Riley Plum, and more, with a heap of support classes in action as well!!

THE BEND EAST CIRCUIT – SANDRO’S HELPFUL INFO FOR RIDERS.
Unsure of what to expect at The Bend’s East circuit?
With some amazing awards on offer including the envied ✨championship rings✨ (thanks to Villani jewellers) and the opportunity to add another circuit to your racing career, we’re sure you’ll be feeling the FOMO come race weekend if you don’t get your entries in.
I’ve put together some resources to help you mentally prepare so you can rock up to your Friday practise day feeling confident.
There’s some drone footage on You tube that was taken at track day, so you can get some great visuals of the whole area including bikes on track. Full credit to MrSky084
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0y-DdnE4Tw
I’ve taken some stills from that footage to give you a closer look at the area you’ll be setting up in. As you can see the allotments have ample space, however you will need to bring a generator and a gazebo – we recommend bringing suitable weights to secure your gazebo. Running water and toilets are available in the pit building.
Also attached to this post are a track map, and map highlighting the way into the circuit from the highway.
Here are some laps of the circuit for you to study:

So what are you waiting for!? Let’s end this year with a bang! (but not literally of course, keep your knees to the breeze, get out there and have some fun!)

THE LAST OF THE ORIGINALS – JOHN SONGAILO TO SIGN OFF AS RELIABILITY TRIAL SPORTS MANAGER!

November 18, 2021 Filed Under: All disciplines, News, SA Women in Motorcycling

THE LAST OF THE ORIGINALS – JOHN SONGAILO TO SIGN OFF AS RELIABILITY TRIAL SPORTS MANAGER

After about 13 years in the position, John Songailo has made the decision to step down as the Reliability Trials Sports Manager, a year earlier then expected, as his current term only expires at the end of 2022.

As such, Motorcycling SA has immediately opened nominations for the position, with the nominations to remain open until 5.00pm, Friday January 21st 2022.

After speaking to John, even though he has enjoyed his time in the position and did give the position some serious thought about whether or not to carry on, he felt that the time was right to step down, and also that it was the time for some new blood to come in with new ideas and take the discipline to the next level.

Motorcycling SA would like to express its thanks to John for holding the position for so many years, and he definitely leaves the discipline in a strong position, with 7 great events making for a season long SA Championship, that certainly caters for all riders and machines, and by its very nature, is also our most unique discipline, which of course, features SA’s famous 24 Hour Trial each July.

With John’s current committee set-up, he is happy to stay on until the committee’s Annual General Meeting that will be held in February, but as per the Sports Manager’s guidelines, it will be up to the new Sports Manager as to how he/she will run the discipline, whilst under the guidelines as set down by Motorcycling SA.

In the short term, this will be a one (1) year appointment, in that the successful nominee will complete the current two (2) year term (2021/22) that John was in the middle of, and after that they will be able to re-nominate if they wish for a full two (2) term of 2023/24.

OTHER SPORTS MANAGER NOMINATIONS STILL OPEN – UNTIL DECEMBER 3RD

Motorcycling SA still have open for nominations, the following Sports Managers positions;

Each appointment is for a two (2) year term – 2022/23, with all Sports Managers getting together for a meeting quarterly, and the MSA Sports Managers Guidelines are also available on request.

  • Dirt Track
  • Enduro
  • Motocross

They will join the returning Sports Managers who’s current term is 2021/22;

  • Road Race – Kym Bolto
  • Speedway – Adam Possingham

Nominations for these 3 positions will close on Friday, December 3rd at 5.00pm, with appointments to be decided on, and made official by the MSA Board at the December Sports Managers meeting.

An application form needs to be completed and returned to Motorcycling SA for a person to be considered for the position, and can be found here;

EMMA HAYLOCK & SARAH RAYSON, REPRESENTING MSA AT THE 2021 SPORT SA AWARDS

November 17, 2021 Filed Under: All disciplines, News, SA Women in Motorcycling

Hugest of congratulations to Emma Haylock, inaugural winner of the Ruby Warner Spirit of Sports Award! An outstanding achievement for Emma, and congratulations as well to Sarah Rayson from the Keith & District MCC, a finalist for Volunteer of the Year, but not getting the gong – this time!

For those who don’t know what the Ruby Warner Spirit of Sports Award is, this may help (get the tissues out perhaps)
Presented in memory of Ruby Jane Warner.
The Ruby Warner Spirit of Sports Award will be presented to an individual athlete (under 16 years of age) who has demonstrated an innate talent and love for their chosen sport, and has also shown selfless care and commitment to others, to ensure they can participate and grow their ability and love for sport … just like Ruby did.
The Spirit of Sports Award is a reflection of Ruby and everything she stood for. It is a reflection of how Ruby saw the world – of innocence and purity, unspoilt, and seeing the goodness and happiness in everyone.
We invite you to read the story of Ruby Jane Warner, learn of her many talents, her love for sport, her incredible care and compassion for others – https://bit.ly/2Xneq5d

Emma Haylock, an amazing young woman and sporting Champion, and a fantastic role model for young girls looking to enter motorcycle (or any) sport, as she is a great example of what hard work, sportsmanship and fair play can achieve, while not forgetting that future generations need to be encouraged and nurtured, which she is more than willing to do!

To Emma, motorcycle sport is her world, in her words, “I just want to ride fast and safe – and send it!” (hit big jumps), and at present she competes or practices most weekends, and across 3 disciplines of the sport, Motocross, Enduro and Trial, and she is always professional in her presentation and is a great role model for the sport, and is forever encouraging more girls 3 (specifically) to get involved, whether that be on the podium at events with a microphone in hand, or representing herself at promotional events, where she is more than willing to attend on behalf of Motorcycling SA and talk to people she doesn’t know about her sport. At present she is also featured on Motorcycling SA’s SA Women in Motorcycling poster for the discipline of motocross.

Sarah Rayson, Sarah’s daily motivation and support in very challenging times again illustrated rare qualities and Sarah’s passion for this sport which has made her a role model for all volunteers – as this year she has been, an official in many roles, event organiser for multiple clubs, a canteen organiser, plus a mum too 2 kids, one with major medical issues!

Sarah’s dedication and drive in 2021 has surpassed the efforts of many other volunteers in motorcycle sport, where she is heavily involved in the Keith & Districts MCC, where her Husband Tim is also the President. Sarah’s passion for motorsport runs deep into her heritage with the late, great Andy Caldecott a close uncle to Sarah and the legacy this family continues to leave on the sport is into its 3rd generation in the southeast.

EMERGING ATHLETE OF THE YEAR; ALISHA HARRY
