To be a finisher a competitor must have completed at least 75 percent of the laps of the winning rider in their class. The cross country format rewards riders with consistency and endurance.

The course consists of open flowing tracks with soft sandy loam, scrubby mallee with sand. All competitors are to follow the marked course which is identified by arrows and bunting. The length of each lap is approximately: JJ & J1 – 6.1Km J2-J4 & Senior – 20.6Km

 WELCOME:

On behalf of the Gawler Motorcycle Club, I would like to welcome everyone to the first two rounds of the 2021 Nitschke Energy SA Off Road Championships.

We are now living in a new normal so please log into our QR code, follow COVID-19 safe where possible and follow our spectator guidelines.

The Gawler MCC was formed in 1925 to cater for early 24 Hour Trial events. We are a proud club with a decorated history of producing elite riders in all disciplines of motorcycle racing. The club has hosted many SAORC rounds in the past with several of them being voted best rounds of the series, we are planning not to disappoint with our return to the Coonalpyn district.

SAORC would not be possible without the generous landowners who allow us to use their properties to enjoy our sport. None more the Heinrich family. David and Karen have welcomed us back bigger and better. There assistance in preparation and hosting club members whist setting up the event is much appreciated by all of us. We need to think our land owners and leave only footprints and ruts and not our rubbish when we leave.

We are returning to the runway paddock from 2014 with many new tracks linking old tracks to create a 21km cross country loop. Jordan and Todd Heinrich have put in a huge effort to create this awesome loop, so we must all thank them when we bump into them throughout the weekend. If you see a plane flying round, there’s a good chance one of them is taking a lucky punter for a joy flight. Gawler MCC thanks the Heinrichs for their continued support.

Many local businesses are needed to make the weekend as comfortable as possible for us all, so I would like to thank:

Nicks Gourmet Kitchen for catering

Mrs Sippy for the coffee truck

         JB Hire for the toilets

         Jason Rumpling for shower hire

Gawler MCC have jumped in at the 11th hr to host rounds 1/2 of the SAORC. With a little over 6 weeks preparation for this event we must thank Andrew Krieg and Peter Stevens for their drive and enthusiasm in helping to keep the series alive. We could not host these rounds without the army of volunteers from our great club. Many people help throughout the event, sometimes too many to thank personally. From the track markers to the event pack up crews and all in between we thank you very much for a great event.

Hope all riders a safe and enjoyable ride over the weekend

Cheers

Anton Seifert

Club President

Below is who and what is open this weekend now – including a chance to ride the MX Nationals prepared track at Gillman on Sunday – contact the clubs through their socials – or through the Club Directory on this website for all the relevant details!

And also not forgetting – MSA’s ACUSA Park in the hills will also be open on Sunday – 2 motocross tracks, enduro loop, juniors track, dirt track for the youngest riders, fully catered – a great family friendly atmosphere!

ASHLEY JANSEN-BATCHELOR RACING #131 – 2020/21 SEASON WRAP!

May 26, 2021 Filed Under: News, Speedway, State Championship

2019 MSA Rising Star Nominee, Ashley Jansen-Batchelor gives us his rundown on a hugely successful season, with lots of miles travelled and lots of silverware to add to the cabinet – huge effort by him and his team!

2020/21 Summer Season Wrap Up

The 2020/21 Summer Season was my most successful Season and I am incredibly proud of what I achieved. It had its challenges through injury where I missed my home South Australian Championship and COVID-19 has delayed the Australian Championships until September this year.
However I am very proud of what I achieved when I came back from that injury. This season we travelled more than we have done in any other season, raced at more tracks and gained valuable experience. I also started racing in the 250cc category which was a whole new learning experience and a really good challenge.

NSW State Championship
The first major race of the season for me after spending 6 weeks on the sidelines with injury was the NSW State Championships, for both 125cc and 250cc categories, held at Woodstock Park Speedway near Cowra NSW. It was a really successful trip having finished on equal highest points scorer for 125cc and coming out of gate 2 in the final, I was able to come away with second place in what was a tough field. This was a really important race for me, especially coming back from injury. I was really happy with the result.

The Graham Baker Memorial Shield
Next up was The Graham Baker Memorial Shield held at my home track Sidewinders. This was one of the races I set as a goal to win this season after having made the podium in the previous season. I am very grateful that the Baker family business CBS Bins, as well as Ecowaste Solutions are key supporters and partners of mine and I’m proud to be associated with them, so to win this and to get my name on the Shield was special for me.

Craig Boyce Invitational
We then made the long trip over to Kurri Kurri in NSW to compete in the Craig Boyce Invitational in both 125cc and 250cc categories. It was great to go over to compete at a track I had not raced on before against some riders I had not competed against before. This was my most successful event in the 250 category finishing with the highest points scorer for the day.

Roy Bitmead Memorial Cup
The Roy Bitmead Memorial Cup was the next race back at my home track Sidewinders, another race I wanted to win this season after finishing on the podium last year. The memorial meetings are always special to win as these events are to honour the people that started our Club. This event was a tough one. I started the final in gate 3 and I am really proud to come away with the win after a tough round of heats.

ANZAC Medal Presidents Cup
The final race of the season was the ANZAC Medal Presidents Cup. This one I wanted to finish the season on a high and get the win. I managed to do just that with a maximum not dropping a point all night and winning the final. It was one of my best races for the season and it was great to finish the season off on a winning note.

Thank you to our Partners & Supporters
During this season we had two new partners join our team of supporters in Darren Disbury and Repco Victor Harbor. I would like to say a massive thank you and welcome on board to them. I would also like to thank all of our partners and supporters for your ongoing support. It really makes all of what we achieved this season possible and I could not have done this without you. I look forward to coming and seeing you all over the off season to thank you personally.

ROUND 2 – 2021 SART CHAMPIONSHIP & SA MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP HEADLINE A HUGE WEEKEND!

May 21, 2021 Filed Under: Motocross, News, Reliability, SA Women in Motorcycling, SAMX Championship, State Championship

ROUND 2 – 2021 SART CHAMPIONSHIP & SA MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP HEADLINE A HUGE WEEKEND!

Saturday – Sedan – The Mike Connors Reliability Trial – the 61st running of the Keyneton MCC’s longest running annual event heads to Sedan this Saturday for round 2 of the South Australian Reliability Trials Championships, with the first bike due to head out on a 6 hour journey at 9.01am.

What will, at this stage, be a dry journey for the 130+ starters, sees a 2 lap journey of 3 hours each, with the first section, just around the corner from Main Control, being an awesome spectator area, at a local’s personal motocross track. So, come to Main Control in the morning, grab breakfast from the local community catering crew, then a program and directions to the spectator area and head out to watch some awesome action!

20+ sidecars will lead the field the away, followed by the Expert solos, old bikes, ladies and then the Clubman and aged classes – with lap 2 staring at 12.01pm for a 3.00pm finish for bike 1.

As mentioned above, the local Sedan Community Group will be catering the event all day, so please get around them and support their efforts, and especially as some are also our fabulous land owners, without whom those events couldn’t run!

The Keyneton MCC would like to thank all who are making this event happen – especially all of the control keepers who will be sitting out in the dust – and a big shout out to BAROSSA MOTORCYCLES in Nuriootpa for their continued support of the Club.

The SART Committee would like to thank MOBILITY SA, CBS BINS, ECO WASTE SOLUTIONS, BAROSSA 4X4 & OUTDOORS and PETER HENNEKAM’S SKETCHOGRAF for their great support of this SA Championship Series.

Action from the Sedan MX track from 2 years ago – and the winners of the 60th Keyneton MCC ‘Annual Road Trial’ from 2020 – Rowan Pumpa (outright & Mike Connors Trophy) and Max & Sam Hutchesson (sidecar & Weckert/Hollamby Trophy)

2021 EAGLE TRAILERS, CAMPERS & CARAVANS SOUTH AUSTRALIAN MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSIPS, presented by AMX SUPERSTORE – ROUND 2 THIS WEEKEND IN THE RIVERLAND

Saturday & Sunday – Renmark – SA Motocross Championships round 2 – the 2nd round of the 2021 South Australian Motocross Championships will kick off early tomorrow morning at Renmark, as the action hots up across all classes of the Championship, led by SA’s amazing future Champions with the junior Classes heading day 1!

Entry for spectators this weekend is a gold coin donation – with all proceeds going to charity – and there will be hot and cold catering all weekend at the Riverland JMC Canteen, with plenty of prime viewing areas at the venue as well.

Camping at the track is also welcome, so head to Sedan, watch the SART action until early arvo, then head to Renmark, catch the last of the junior races,  have a feed, roll out the swag, and then wake to some awesome action on Sunday morning, after an egg & bacon sanga of course!

With the juniors heading day 1 – with kids aged from 4 to 16, boys and girls, in action – day 2 will headline the senior competitions, again make and female riders, as well as the oldest juniors (15+) in the Junior Lites class – so both days will feature awesome racing and something for everyone to watch!

All this action from round 1 at Gillman – will be on show this weekend at Renmark as riders start to put their Championship run together, with a huge thanks to fullnoise.com.au for the brilliant pics!

EAGLE TRAILERS, CAMPERS & CARAVANS showed their ongoing commitment to the series, securing the Series Naming Rights sponsorship in a lucrative 2 year deal with AMX SUPERSTORE signing on for the 2021 and 2022 seasons as well. AMX STORE support is totalling $14K including round by round helmet and tyre giveaways, participation prizes, track side sales and much more.

BUTLERS MECHANICAL SERVICES continue to raise the bar and their increased pledge into the series in 2021 secured the Naming rights for the Woman’s Class with TITANIUM SECURITY AUSTRALIA supporting the Junior Girls Classes.

GBF CLOTHING, BANKS RACE DEVELOPMENT, KESSNERS MOTORCYCLES and COAST POWERSPORTS are the other fantastic Championship partners for 2021.

LILLIE YIATROU WINS 4TH SA WOMEN’S CUP (FOR TRIAL) IN A ROW!

May 18, 2021 Filed Under: News, SA Women in Motorcycling, Trials

LILLIE YIATROU WINS 4TH SA WOMEN’S CUP (FOR TRIAL) IN A ROW!

Reigning MSA Rising Star Award recipient, Lillie Yiatrou, made it 4 on the trot on Sunday in winning her 4th SA Women’s Cup in a row, making her the first to win the event 4 times, and the first to do it in a row as well, as she also took out the PRO Women’s Class. Hot on her heals though is junior rider, Alisha Harry, who easily won the SPORT Women’s Class, with all 3 entrants in this senior class being junior riders.

A total of 14 girls and women rode the event in 2021, sponsored again by the good folk at Rockhopping SA and run by the Keyneton MCC, and, for the 4th year running, there was also an all-female officiating crew running the event – with thanks to Verlaine Bell (Steward), Tyler Hogan (Clerk of Course), Carole ‘Crouch’ Tune (Race Secretary) and Wendy Holmes (Scrutineer)!

It was a double win for the ladies, with Melissa Rogers, along with rider Steve Rees, getting the gold in the 2021 Diener/Holmes Sidecar Trophy, the 3rd time the team have won the event (Steve’s 4th overall), with it pleasing to also see 3 sidecars in the Sidecar 2 Class this year.

Above left; 2021 SA Women’s Cup field, with the officials; (Rear from left) Lillie Yiatrou, Ella Peacock, Jasmine Tarrant, Anna Rogers, Tanya Harry, Melissa Rogers, Charlotte Cowan, Wendy Holmes, Tyler Hogan, Crouch Tune, Jesse Nourse, (Front from left) Verlaine Bell, Hayley Stephen, Alisha Harry, Chelsea Long, Cadance Long, Lucinda Cowan, Ashley Barwick.

Also great to see that the discipline of Trial is still the family sport – with three generations from one family all having a ride together (below) – and for the first time at an event, when David Long ended a 23 year retirement to ride along side his son, Aaron, and granddaughters Chelsea and Cadance, with the girls also having their first ever SA Women’s Cup ride – fantastic to see!

(Pics not from the weekend – we wish it was that green! )

Results; The Rockhopping SA 2021 SA Women’s Cup & Diener/Holmes Sidecar Trophy

Results; 2021 Trials SA Star Awards – after event #2

Also, on the Saturday there was a Come & Try Day for Girls and Women, with a few newbies coming out for a ride – with a huge thanks to Kieran Hill for taking the time to put them all through their paces – the improvement through the day was there for all to see!
