SA WOMEN’S CUP & DIENER/HOLMES SIDECAR TROPHY HEAD UP A HUGE WEEKEND!

The first event in SA motorcycling history to have the girls and women headline the event, the Rockhopping SA 2021 SA Women’s Cup & Diener/Holmes Sidecar Trophy for Trial, hosted by the Keyneton MCC headline a huge weekend of action, across many disciplines of the sport.

Being run on Long Gully Road at Angaston from 9.00am Sunday, this event also features free entry for spectators, who will be able to wander around between the sections and watch some of SA’s awesome trials talent.

Leading the way is current Australia #2 (2019) in Open Women and Junior Women U13, Lillie Yiatrou and Charlotte Cowan, with Lillie also a 2 time Australian representative, and the reigning MSA Rising Star. Also in the field is 2018 Australian U13 Champion, Alisha Harry and Under 11 #1 from 2019, Ashley Barwick, again showing how much SA leads the country in Junior Women.

And due to the nature of Trial, and only 1 bike on the course (section) at one time, juniors can compete in senior classes in direct competition, with the Sport Women (formally C Grade) Class being made up of all junior riders, Charlotte, Alisha and Hayley Stephen.

At the other end of the field, look for the Long sisters, Chelsea & Cadance, both riding in Junior B Girls in their first SA Women’s Cup in 2021, and with dad, Aaron, and grandfather, David, also in the field, it shows that Trial is very much a family affair!

The Diener/Holmes Sidecar Trophy will also feature a number of female passengers, led by 2016 Australian Champion, Melissa Rogers, onboard with Steve Rees, the very team that won the Australian Championship in 2016. Look out also for the husband & wife team of Adrian & Tanya Harry, and the father & daughter team of Greg & Anna Rogers (who are having their first ride together).

There will also be a full field of support classes in action, led by Trial 1 riders, and Australian Champions, Connor Hogan (and Trial2 World Championship competitor & multi time Australian representative) and Haydon Barwick, along with juniors Hayden Eardley (2018 U13 Australian Champion) and Carl Henschke taking it on in the senior classes, and a heap of junior riders in action as well – there will be something for everyone to watch!

Although there is free entry for spectators, there is no catering for this event, so bring a picnic lunch and sit under one of the many gum trees to watch the action.

The event will also be preceded by a Come & Try Day on the Saturday – at the same venue – from 10.00am to 4.00pm, mainly for the girls and women, but open to all.

Also on this weekend there are a number of Clubs around the state that have gates open – check out the list below, but a couple of highlights are;

The opening round of Mud N Tars Club Series, which also features the Slur feature race, a 30 minute moto – with the Parawa Track looking awesome for this weekend’s event.

Entries for both of these events, and many others, are still open, so get around it and get out and support the clubs doing the hard yards preparing their venues – see the pics below of the awesome track prep at Parawa!!

For those who like sliding their knees around corners – head out to Mallala this Sunday for another great Ride Day – and you never know, you may like it so much, that a competition license becomes you and you get racing!

MOUNT GAMBIER’S SENIORS MEETING – IT’S HOTTING UP AS YOU READ!

WHAT AND WHERE!

This weekend sees the Mount Gambier MCC hold their annual Seniors Meeting, for riders over the age of 45 years at their fantastic Mac Park circuit down at ‘The Mount’, with almost 100 entries received for the weekend’s action!

Practise started today (Friday), with practise and qualifying kicking off Saturday morning, before the racing gets underway – for classic and modern bikes, solo and sidecar!

So, if you have not a thing to do this weekend, and you were looking to head out for a ride or a trip – then this might well be the choice you were looking for! Great action, great viewing, great food, and always a great atmosphere at the Mac Park venue!

Spectators $10 per day entry

ENTRIES OPEN FOR THE NITSCHKE ENERGY 2021 SOUTH AUSTRALIAN OFF ROAD CHAMPIONSHIPS!

With round 1 of the Nitschke Energy 2021 South Australian Off Road Championships now exactly 1 month away, the SAORC committee is excited to announce that entries for the first 2 rounds at Coonalpyn on June 5 & 6 are now OPEN, with the supp regs also available on the Motorcycling SA website!

The SAROC Committee are also excited to announce a brand new Naming Rights partner for both, the junior and senior Championships for 2021, and it’s a warm welcome, and a big thank you, to Nitschke Energy, for their commitment to the 2021 Championship.

The SAORC Committee also welcome, as a Gold Sponsor to the Championship, Nutrien Ag Solutions, another new partner to the Championship in 2021, and welcome back WSB Distributors and KTM from last year’s Championship as Silver partners, along with Kessner Motorcycles and Robinson Brothers as Bronze partners.

The SAORC are pleased to see new partners coming in to support the Championship, and the continued support from long term partners, giving the Championship a great support from which to continue to grow.

The 2021 Championship is once again a 7 round series, which encompasses much of South Australia’s central and southern regions, will be a combination of Cross County and Sprint events, and will culminate with a combined round of the 2021 Australian Off Road Championship at the awesome Kingston SE venue, with round 5 also the round for the 2021 Club Team Challenge.

All rounds will feature onsite camping, at least for competitors, and, at this stage, will be fully catered, with some great spectating areas, but it must be said, that all of the current COVID-19 restrictions at the time of each round will need to be implemented.

Classes for 2021 will be as they were in 2020, with all of the age and machine requirements for each class to be found in the Championship supp regs, but what can be assured is that the 2021 Championship will have a class for all ages and levels of ability, so head to the Motorcycling SA website and get all of the details to get your entries in for rounds 1 & 2 in the sands of Coonalpyn in the South East!!

WHO TO WATCH OUT FOR

The 2021 Championship will once again feature most of the usual suspects from the last few years, but with a few new combatants that have just arrived out of juniors, so the action on the track should make for some great spectating through the year!

Riley Graham will once again be back to defend his #1 plate from 2020, with the likes of Cooper Sheidow, Jayden Rudd, Sean Throup and Luke Bunnik once again trying to knock him off the top step of the podium, but this year add into the mix the likes of 2020 juniors, Alex Krieg, Carl Nitschke, Alex Head, Chad Sparrow and, 2020 Junior Rider of the Year, Royden Harrold, who will all be out to mix it with the established guns!

In the senior age classes, again watch out for the ever improving Rowan Pumpa and Peter Rudd to perhaps dominate their classes, especially if their early AORC form is anything to go by, as both are right in the mix for National honours in 2021, while Chloe Barton will once again lead a strong field of women into battle, and if her AORC form is anything to go by, she may be hard to beat in 2021!

But, it might just be the junior classes will be the ones to watch in 2021, as the Rising Stars, or Tomorrow’s Champions, show just what talent SA has at the present time, so get around these fantastic kids and watch them in action at all of the rounds!

The Gear brothers have set the AORC radar to ‘alert’ after round 1, with Ollie leading the J2 Class after going 2 from 2 at round 1 to lead the Championship, with older brother Davey in a podium position on day 1 in J3, before a crash put him out for the weekend, so he will be itching to bounce back from that – and will also have Thomas Lambert and Wil Carpenter to deal with on the track!

Also keep an eye out for the J3 guns from 2020, Clay Burnett, Seth Carpenter, Oliver Pitchford and Max Midwinter (currently 7^th in J4 at the AORC), as they look to try and grab the #1 plate for juniors here in SA in 2021.

The Junior Women’s Class is also on offer for 2021, with Emily Lambert and SAMX gun, Emma Haylock, keen to get some rounds in, and with some quality competition, so the challenge is there to all of the SA Motocross & Enduro girls – get those entries in and get around the 2021 Championship.

SO, it’s time to fire up – round 1 entries are open and Coonalpyn is only a short month away – and one of the best things about the 2021 Championship; no rounds will require registered or permitted bikes – SO – motorcycles in motocross trim will be allowed!

SART ROUND 1 HEADLINES ANOTHER BIG WEEKEND OF ACTION!

SART ROUND 1 HEADLINES ANOTHER BIG WEEKEND OF ACTION!

This weekend, tomorrow in fact, sees the 7 round South Australian Reliability Trials Championship kick into gear with the traditional ‘season opener’, the Gawler MCC’s Philip Haydon Reliability Trial, taking place out from the Marrabel Rodeo Grounds, with the first bike due to leave at 1.01pm, for a 2 lap, 6 hour-ish journey around the region, and with the final timed section to take place at the Rodeo Grounds, there will be action a-plenty without having to leave Main Control!

Round 1 sees 135 entries received, which coming out of the COVID year of 2020 is a great recovery, with the 22 sidecar entries leading the field away. And it’s a high quality field as well for the Series opener, led by Adam Wright, Damien Jenke and the evergreen, Rowan Pumpa in the outright solo battle to join the Philip Haydon honour roll!

The sidecars are also high quality, with multiple 24 Hour Trial winners, Max & Sam Hutchesson, Mark Launer & Tyson Rohrlach, Shane ‘Crash’ Schiller (with Adrian Rohrlach) and Hector Evans (with Shaun Buckley) leading the way!

The event is being fully catered by an amazing team led by Janet Hazel, who is doing it as an awesome fundraiser for the Kapunda High School Foundation, which helps disadvantaged students, so get behind it and grab some great food for a great cause!

On behalf of the Gawler Motorcycle Club, I would like to welcome everyone to the 43rd running of the Phillip Haydon Reliability trial. After 42 consecutive years of our trial, last year’s event had to be cancelled due to some crazy virus getting in the way. We have picked up from last year’s event by running out of the Marrabel Rodeo Grounds.

We are now living in a new normal so please log into our QR codes, observe COVID safe practice where possible and follow our spectator guidelines.

The SA Reliability Trials Championship series would not be possible without generous landowners allowing us the ride their paddocks. We would like to thank Peter Dorrington, Greg Hampel, Nathen Rowett, Colin Menadue, Brendon Teague, Mark, Tim and Tony Prior, Ian Williams, Harvey and Sheryl Murray, Jim McInerney, James Huppatz, Peter Shulz and Mark Newmaan, who are our generous landowners. Also, thanks to Nathen Rowett and Luke Shulz for their involvement in the stage at the rodeo grounds which will be a high light for the spectators come the final stage at night.

We have three spectator viewing areas this year, two of which are out on course and the final is at the rodeo grounds. Our event would not be possible without our huge team of volunteers. So as a rider if you see someone working hard to make things happen for the event go up and thank them, it might just bring you some good luck. A HUGE THANK YOU goes to all involved in making this event a possibility.

Hot on the heels of round 1 of the 2021 Eagle Trailers, Campers & Caravans South Australian Motocross Championships, presented by AMX Store, this Sunday sees round 1 of the South Coast Club Championship happening at their Monarto venue.

DALLAS SKEER @ ROUND 2 OF THE 2021 AUSTRALIAN SUPERSPORT CHAMPIONSHIP

The Kenny Blake Foundation scholarship recipient gives a rundown on his exploits at round 2 of the 2021 Australian Supersport Championship, read on ….

The pace continued over last weekend at Wakefield Park for the Australian Superbike Championship in Goulbourn NSW for round 2. Cold morning temps didn’t stop me from reaching new PB’s and coming away with some good results and showing what our small team is capable of.

Coming into winter means the mornings are quite chilly and Wakefield Park isn’t known for having the best surface. After testing there 2 weeks prior to the round we knew where we stood and what needed to be done and Friday practise went a little slower then I wanted. Being off the pace a little bit we were still able to put in some decent times to finish 5^th fastest for the day after making some small changes to the bike.

Saturday saw two 25 min qualifying’s where we had to run the same set of tyres over both sessions due to tyre restrictions. The first session didn’t go to plan as while on lap 2 running off track and into the gravel trap not quite making it out and dropping it. Luckily there was no damage and I was able to pick the bike up and get back to the pits. A quick check over with the team and back out to try and set a lap with fresh tyres still on. Even though the track was cold that morning the Pirelli tyres hooked up well but the slight get off at the start hindered me all session and I was able to put in a 59sec.771, 5^th fastest after 12 laps 1.2secs behind 1^st place. The second session wasn’t any better as I did the same lap time but also on the same tyres. Even though the track temperature was warmer later in the day this track requires new rubber to get the full amount of grip to put in solid lap. It was good to throw down multiple 59sec lap times and show some good consistency on worn tyres, similar to what they would be like in the final laps of racing. . So starting from the middle of the second row in 5^th gave me a good choice to if I go on the inside or outside into turn 1 off the start.

We arrived Sunday to a very foggy and wet track and did not do the 5 minute warm up a it wouldn’t have been worth anything as the track had only just dried up. So we looked to make up a position in the 16 lap races.

Race 1 was an eventful race after holding 5^th off the line but getting dropped back to 6^th into turn 2. After taking back 5^th place I started to close down to 4^th who had a few seconds gap. The there was a crash and the race got stopped and was to be reduced to 6 laps. I struggled to get into a comfortable rhythm and was in a group of 4 riders battling for fourth place for the 6 laps. Made a small mistake coming onto the straight on lap 3 and dropped to 6^th place and didn’t have time to make a move back until getting ran wide on the last corner getting pushed back to 7^th. I was able to catch up slightly with 2 laps to go but didn’t have time to line up a pass. Then the rider in front of me made a pass to take 5^th place and making the other guy run wide and crash out, giving me 6^th. Even though I would have liked to finish a little higher up I was happy to get back to my PB pace and move up one place to 6th in the championship after that race.

Race 2 went a little better for myself after getting slowed up by the riders in front at turn 1 and losing my run up the back straight of the track instantly dropping a second behind. Siting in 5th I had a few riders behind me that I was able to pull away from comfortably while doing consistent PB lap times of 59sec.443. By lap 13 out of 16 I was able to reel in the 3 second gap to 4^th place but just didn’t quite have enough laps to line up a pass. A last ditch attempt at turn 1 on the final lap saw me coming in to fast running wide losing half a second and had to settle for a close 5^th. This race was good for myself even though I was by myself for most of it as my lap times only varied by half a second over the 16 laps which is what got me closer to getting 4^th.

The weekend was a good weekend even though I would have liked to come away 4^th overall as the battle for 4^th is nearly if not more competitive as the race win at the moment in my class. I was able to move from 7^th to 5^th in the championship after this round only one point off 4^th. Every track we go to I’m able to beat my old PB and be on the old lap record pace. The front runners are doing ridiculously fast lap times that are way faster than the previous lap record. We aren’t quite there yet but getting closer, and with a 4 month break we hope to have the speed to fight for the podium!

INTRODUCING THE; VETERAN MOTORCYCLE COMPETITORS ASSOCIATION OF SOUTH AUSTRALIA

Veteran Motorcycle Competitors Association of South Australia.

Message to ALL competitive motorcycle disciplines.

A more than friendly welcome to both male and female present and former competitors is extended to join our group. We meet for a pleasant sociable luncheon at the Morphett Arms Hotel every month from 11.30am to 1.30pm on the 1^st Tuesday with the exception of November (Melbourne Cup Day).

To join, applicants for Membership shall have been the holder of an approved Motorcycling Australia (formerly ACCA) ACU, or an FIM International License at least 25 years prior to the 31^st December of the preceding year of application for Membership.

Besides our monthly luncheon get together we convene our Annual General Meeting at the beginning of May and organize our end of year Annual Dinner Meeting around late October early November.

Our meagre once only joining fee of $5.00 plus an annual Membership payment of $5.00 will entitle you to our quarterly comprehensive News Letter.
