TROY Series SA 2020 – 6 WEEKS AND COUNTING TO KICK OFF!

February 10, 2020 Filed Under: News, Trials

TROY Series SA 2020 almost ready to go & entries to open soon!

The TROY Series SA 2020 poster has now broken cover, thanks to Motorcycling SA starting to upload all of the events to its events calendar on their website, head to www.motorcyclingsa.org.au/riders/calendar for the whole calendar.

To start the year Trials SA are heading to Mungeree, complete with a Saturday coaching & practise day and no trip to Mungeree would be complete without a famous woolshed dinner – an awesome way to start the year!

Riders (junior) who need Kickstart programs or endorsements signed off will be able to get that done onsite Saturday at the coaching/practise day, with Hoges, Connor and crew on hand to coach!

The woolshed dinner will take place Saturday evening, as per previous years, menu and costs (dinner & weekend catering by Tyler & crew) will be released with the supp regs, which will be on Ridernet and the MSA website.

This is now the 11th year of TROY, and featuring Chris & Stuey on the poster this year, TROY 2020 will feature 5 rounds, with at least 1 new venue (Robertstown), which will also feature a Saturday Trials SA Coaching & Practise Day and will be a great venue for a camp out as well!

In between Mungeree and Robertstown, the Series will also visit Victor Harbor & Tungkillo for the Frank Tuck & Max Graetz Trials, before heading to the Barossa for the Series Finale’, the 47th Mountain Man Trial.

The full Series is;

Round 1        March 29       The Woolshed Trial                         Mungeree                  Team H & AJS

Round 2        April 19          The Frank Tuck Trial                       Victor Harbor             AJS

Round 3        July 26           The Max Graetz Trial                       Tungkillo                   Gawler

Round 4        August 16      The ‘Black Mud’ Trial                      Robertstown             Velocette

Round 5        Sept 13          The 47th Mountain Man Trial         Barossa                     Keyneton

Rounds 1 & 4 will also feature a Saturday Trials SA Coaching & Practise Day, while round 2 will feature a Come & Try Day on the Saturday, with all events also likely to have camping available on the Saturday night.

For 10 years now TROY Series SA has been a Series that has incorporated all of the classes into 7 classes, with the classes, where possible, based predominantly on what colour split is ridden (Blue & Yellow), but this wasn’t possible across all classes, so some are based on lowest point score on the day (Red, White, Black & White and Red & White), with the Pink Class alone in being based firstly on what line the girls are riding, then on points lost.

And over these 10 years the Series has grown into a worthy Series to compliment the SA Championship event, as well as the Special Events, and with the series fluctuating between 4 & 5 rounds each year, all 5 Clubs have run rounds at some stage over the 10 years.

Classes for the 2020 Series will be

RED (Trial 1 & Trial 2)

RED & WHITE (A, B & Classic Sidecar)

PINK (Junior & Senior Women)

WHITE (Junior A & Junior B)

YELLOW (Trial 3)

BLUE (Trial 4)

BLACK & WHITE (Clubman & The Historic Classes)

AND as always, TROY will also feature non-competitive classes for MINI TRIAL (ages 4 – 7), JUNIOR and senior solo & sidecar, with all the details regarding classes and what line they ride to be included in the Supp Regs for the series.

The Series will also be supported again by Rockhopping SA & Trialsport – with thanks!

Expert coaching will be available for all riders, new and not so new, at Mungeree for round 1 of the 2020 TROY Series SA

Riders will get a bit of everything at Mungeree, from logs of all sizes, to creeks, to rocky outcrops to the hill known as the Widowmaker!

ACUSA Park – SET TO RISE UP FROM THE ASHES!!

February 10, 2020 Filed Under: All disciplines, News

As most would know, ACUSA Park got hit in the recent bushfires, and since that time the Park Committee have been working flat out to get the Park back up and running for 2020 – here is the latest update!

Acusa Park working bee this Saturday 15th February. 8am to noon.

The support for the working bees after the fire went through the property has been awesome thanks to great bunch of volunteers.

Thank you all for your time donated at the working bees, it’s been great to have that support which is really needed to get the property up and running for the coming season.

While we are still concentrating on fire damage and repairs other plans that have been made for the year are falling behind schedule so our challenge is to get back on track, and we simply can’t do it without help.

Our major project for this year is to get the dirt track up and running again and to do this the old fence has to be replaced. Other projects are also planned so for this reason we will continue to hold working bees over the next couple of months.

The working bee dates are;

Saturday 15th February 8am – noon.  Everyone is welcome!

Sat. 29th February 8am to noon

 March 7th, 8th & 9th     We will be there for the long weekend and have quite a few things planned so all helpers are  welcome and if you wish to stay for all or part of the weekend you are welcome to camp.

 Sat. March 21st  from 8am to noon.

If you are available we would sincerely appreciate a hand if only for a few hours. If you are able to bring a trailer, chainsaw and wire cutters, bolt cutters, fencing pliers etc. it would be handy but not essential. Also bring gloves and safety glasses etc if you have them.

Please enter via the main gate on Snake Gully Road.

Thanks….

VALE JEN SHANKS, THE ‘PRETEND’ PHOTOGRAPHER!

February 3, 2020 Filed Under: News

Reprinted with permission from the Levis MCC.
Jen Shanks, who recently passed away after a brave fight with cancer, will be a great loss to the Motorcycling SA family, and we share here the eulogy to our 2019 Regional Volunteer Award recipient from MSA President, Brenton Matters, with thanks;

From the Levis MCC;
Yesterday we said goodbye to our dear friend Jenny Shanks. This is the Club’s eulogy that Brenton Matters read out at the service:

On behalf of every member of the Levis Motorcycle Club, I offer our most heartfelt condolences to Jock and Jesse on Jenny’s passing.

The Shanks family has been part of the Levis family for many years. Jenny and Jock were always ready to get their hands dirty and help with motorcycling activities.

It was a very rare event that you didn’t see Jen, clad in her purple hi-viz vest wandering the course looking for just the right shot.

We all know how good a photographer Jen was. While she posted under the name Pretend Photography… her work was anything but Pretend!

Jen has taken thousands of shots and I would be safe to say that anyone who has ridden a competitive motorcycling event in SA in recent years would have a copy of a pic taken by Jenny Shanks.

What made her work so good was that it wasn’t just focussed just on the racing. Jen had a very keen eye for the people behind the scenes and, her candid shots often captured the “mood” of each event.

Jenny’s portfolio of work provides a unique record of motorcycling and motorsport in many parts of Australia over recent years.

For instance, Jen produced a fabulous visual record of the return of racing to Sellicks Beach. She catalogued every aspect of the events from setting up car parks, turning a beach into a racetrack, the racing, the bikes, the riders, the volunteers, the spectators and then the aftermath and returning Sellicks to a beach.

Just as we marvel at the old black and white pics of the good old days of Sellicks Beach racing, so too will Jen’s work provide a great history for future generations to admire.
But Jenny was far more than an excellent photographer, she was just a wonderful person and a great friend.

At the core, our Club is a very close-knit community and Jenny was, and remains, very important to that community. From pitching in around the camp on away trips, to slipping Easter eggs into everyone’s swags or just having a great time around a campfire, Jenny was there with her no-nonsense approach and wicked sense of humour.

The work Jenny and Jock have put into motorcycling cannot be understated and was recognised recently when they were presented an Award for their work at the MSA Night of Champions.

Jenny’s courage and the incredibly positive way she dealt with her illness was an inspiration to us all. She was taken from this world far too soon. But I can promise her memory will live on.

We miss you Jen.

All thank these business for their continued, or new support of both Championships.

The weekend will also feature round 1 of the 2020 CAFNIX Series, so it really is a 3 edged sword of action of chasing points for the riders this weekend.

The organisers are also excited to announce that legendary commentator, Mark Bracks will be joining us at The Bend to live stream commentary on our FB page across the race weekend. So for those who cannot make it, you can tune into FB and listen to Bracksy and live timing via www.computime.com.au

& from the organisers, “Thanks Bracksy, really appreciate you making the effort and continuing to support our series!”

Time to chuck the swag in, or hook up the caravan and head to The Bend to watch some of SA’s and Victoria’s, as well as some riders from other states, open their Championship series on one of Australia’s best venues – and with FREE entry for spectators as well!

And proudly sponsoring the SA Championships – and the SA v Vic state battle – and with a huge thanks – the team at SA Motorcycles
