2020 HISTORIC SCRAMBLE CHAMPIONSHIPS & TROY Series SA FEATURE THIS WEEKEND!

With the short and crammed half a 2020 season about to come to an end for the off road disciplines, this weekend sees two of the final events for the year before summer kicks in and speedway becomes the discipline of choice – the 2020 SA Historic Scramble Championships at ACUSA Park and the final round of Trial’s TROY Series SA 2020 at Victor Harbor.

The Levis MCC will once again host the SA Historic Scramble Championships at ACUSA Park at Harrogate, via Nairne in the Adelaide Hills, with 100+ entries on solo and sidecar machines, this will be a full day’s racing kicking off from 9.00am.

FREE ENTRY for spectators and fully catered ALL DAY – and plenty of room for physical distancing as per COVID requirements.

While this is happening, the AJS MTC will be hosting the final round of TROY Series SA 2020, the Scarpantoni Wines Frank Tuck Trial, signposted from the Waitpinga Road – also kicking off at 9.00am, with FREE ENTRY for spectators – but bring a picnic basket for lunch, with plenty of room for physical distancing as per COVID requirements!

It will be interesting to see which Victor Harbor get served this weekend – the dry version or the wet version (see pics) – and with Australian representatives and Champions in action, the viewing will be top notch!

ROAD RACE & TRIAL CROWN THEIR 2020 SA CHAMPIONS

Last weekend saw Road Race and Trial crown their 2020 SA Champions, road race at the Master of Mac Park in mount Gambier after they were able to run 2 rounds in 2020 (of the 4 planned) and Trial at Barina, Eden Valley at their annual stand alone SA Championship event.

Huge congratulations to all who rode, and placed, and also a huge well done to the road race and trial disciplines, and their brilliant communities for being able to get it happening through COVID and the re-start of the sport and run SA Championship events through this time.

Enduro and Motocross were also able to run SA Championships through this time – and their 2020 Champions will be featured next week!

DALLAS SKEER’S SUPERSPORT REPORT FROM MAC PARK – AND A NEW LAP RECORD FOR THE 600’S!

It was good to be back racing again and at my local track Mac Park after a 6 month break from seeing the lights go out. We had done 4 practise days at Mac Park since racing stopped in February and I had some good days and some other days where I struggled to find the pace I usually can do. Last weekend couldn’t have gone much better with the weather being our only set back.

Friday practise was very warm with air temperature of close to 30 degrees which gave a false sense of what the weekend ahead was going to be like. We had chosen to ride the number one race bike that usually gets ridden in ASBK and I had never ridden it at Mac Park with the setup I usually race on. Friday was a lot harder than we thought with the bike not handling very good when entering the corners. Luckily Dad was able to get it pretty much sorted after 5 practise sessions. I was only able to manage a best of 1.11min.623 which was about .6secs off where I wanted to be.

Going straight into a single 20min qualifying session wasn’t ideal as there was still one untested change done to the bike from Friday. It seemed to have made the difference as after 6 laps I was able to post a 1.10min.171 to secure pole position for the 600 Supersport class and 3rd on the gird the 15 lap Master of Mac Park feature race on Sunday. I was surprised to do that time as it’s the quickest any 600 has gone around Mac Park and 0.5secs quicker than my PB, plus one whole second faster than my old lap record. As it was not a race the qualifying time doesn’t count as a lap record.

There was 4 Supersport races with two on Saturday and two on Sunday, then the final 15 lap feature at the end of the weekend which included Superbikes! Saturday afternoon was forecast to be raining and thankfully it held out.

Race 1 was my best ride for the whole weekend after leading from start to finish I was able to pull a six second gap from second place and set a new lap record of 1.10min.040 smashing my previous 1.11min.162. Not only was able to do that lap, I was able to back it up the next lap with a nearly identical time of 1.10min.056 and comfortable stay within 0.5secs of that lap time over the 6 lap race.

Race 2 was a little more interesting with light rain threating but not actually wetting the track, so we were able to stay on slicks. Being cautious the first lap I got passed and was happy to sit behind and follow the other rider to see how they react to the track conditions with the slight rain. After 3 laps I had good confidence and was able to make a easy pass back into the lead and pull a gap of 2.5secs and a time of 1.10min.713 proving there was plenty of grip.

Sunday started with going straight into racing with an extra warm up lap for the first race. It had rained Saturday night so the track was wet but drying. To wet of the slicks but only just wet enough for wets. I didn’t get a very good start and fell back to third off the line. I was able to stay with the two front riders for a lap but just didn’t have the confidence in the conditions and dropped off the back of them. I finished third and was able to post a 1.15.797 over 10 seconds ahead of the next rider.

Race 4 and the final 600 Supersport race was in very similar conditions to race 2 on Saturday with light rain all race but the track staying dry. I once again fell back to second and sat there for 3 laps to feel the conditions out and then made a pass to take the lead and pull and instant gap. Posting a 1min.11.531 and finishing 3 seconds ahead after the 6 laps.

The final race of the day is where the weather finally broke and it meant that 15 laps where going to be in extremely wet conditions with a lot of standing water on the track. Being mixed with the Superbikes is always fun but a challenge as they have 400cc more than my Suzuki 600cc Supersport. I did not get a good start dropping two places by turn 1 off the line. The rider in 3rd had a mechanical problem early on so I was stuck in 4h behind a slower superbike for the first lap and half, by that time the leaders had a decent gap and I just focused on being smooth and gaining pace as I felt out the wet conditions. Being 15 laps I had to deal with a lot of lapped riders and that made my race a bit more interesting rather than just doing 15 laps by myself. By lap 12 I could see the superbike rider in 2nd slowing down so I upped the pace a little and kept pushing. Unfortunately it was too little too late and I settled for third only 1.8secs off of second and was able to nearly match the fastest lap done by the winner on a superbike, with a 1.15min.921.

It was great to be back racing and to do the lap times I was able to do which showed I didn’t lose anything over the break and hopefully when ASBK starts again in November at The Bend Motorsport Park I can be real competitive. A big thanks to Dad for sorting the bike on Friday and standing out in the rain, also all the great sponsors and supporters that have been understanding with the Covid situation

LEVI DAY & DECLAN CARBERRY – TEARING UP THE TRACKS ON OPPOSITE SIDES OF THE WORLD!

The fourth and penultimate round of the Ducati Tri Options Cup was held at Oulton Park over the 18-20 September. It’s a track I really enjoy and hugely different to the flat and wide Silverstone that we raced at the round prior. Oulton Park is an undulating twist through the Cheshire countryside, with a big lake in the middle of the circuit. There’s never any time to rest around there and has a great mix of fast sweepers and tight hairpins and chicanes.

Friday we had Practice and Qualifying. We managed to get onto the pace straight away and managed a time of 1:40.8 in practice, to set the quickest time for the session. The bike was feeling really good and I was confident going into qualifying. I further improved my time in qualifying to a 1:40.5. Josh Day set a slightly quicker time of 1:40.2. I was unable to have a crack at going quicker as a red flag with 5 minutes to go caused the session to be called early. But our goal at each round is to get it on the front row, and my lap time put me in 2nd place, so we were happy with our session.

We had a 12 lap race on Saturday and we opted to make a few changes to the bike after going through all the information from Fridays sessions. I got away well and was in 2nd by the end of the first lap. I got in to the lead and had some good passes with Josh Day. The bike didn’t feel as positive as I’d hoped from the changes we had made and I was unable to consistently do the lap times I’d hoped for. Elliott Pinson also got in the mix and had really strong pace. Unfortunately he had a problem with his bike and it was missing gears. I was right behind him when his bike slowed, and I tried my very best to avoid contact with him but unfortunately clipped his handle bar, causing him to fall. Josh and I went on to over take one another for the next few laps. On lap 11 of 12, I had 0.7 of a second gap and was leading the race, before the raced got red flagged. This meant I took the win in Race 1! Really happy with that result. Elliot and I got called up to race control to review the footage of the crash, hear both sides of the story and ensure it was dealt with correctly, as there were some people who said in interviews and around the paddock that I had made a dangerous move on Elliot and that I should be penalised. The footage was crystal clear that I did absolutely everything to avoid contact with him and that it was clear as day that Elliott unfortunately had a problem with his bike. Roger Marshall, an ex professional racer, is one of the men who review situations like this. And it was his statement that he had never seen a bike slow down that quickly going through that section of track in all his years coming to Oulton Park. I was glad that the correct direction was taken and to have the incident reviewed, to have any doubt removed that I had been riding dirty. The team and I put our heads together that night on making a few changes ahead of Sundays race.

Sunday was another beautiful day at Oulton Park. It had been 24 degrees all race weekend, sun was shining and barely a cloud in the sky. Our race on Sunday was only 10 laps. I got away alright in race 2, but Josh Day and Elliot Pinson got the initial jump. They were setting a great pace at the front and I was managing to hang on to them. Elliott just started to drop a little and Josh was pulling away. I was trying to work out where I could make a move on Elliott. He then had the same issue with his bike in the same section of track as the day before! I was directly behind him and my front tire slammed into his rear tire, causing us to both get a bit shakey. Fortunately, this time he stayed on, as did I, and I passed him in the next corner. It was now lap 6 and Josh had a 1.6 second gap on me. The bike was feeling mega and I knew I had to try everything possible to close the gap. The next two laps were some of my best laps I’ve ever ridden and I managed to close the gap by lap 8 to 0.2 of a second, setting a new lap record along the way. I was able to show Josh a wheel in a few corners and on the last lap Josh and a lapped rider had a coming together, causing the lapped rider to crash. I was then able to get along side him with half a lap to go. Going into a chicane Josh ran off the track under brakes, allowing me to slip underneath him and get to the chequered flag first! Taking the 2nd win of the weekend!

It was great to get the double win at the weekend and the lap record, especially because it was my birthday on Sunday, so a nice way to celebrate with these results! We managed to close the gap to 26 points. We have 2 races to go, at Brands Hatch in mid October. Josh has been super consistent all year, and hasn’t finished lower than 2nd in any races, so he’ll be hard to beat. But I’ve just got to keep working hard and doing our best! I cant thank my team enough for all their hard work, Katie, Darren, Nigel and Paul for all they do for the team. And to our sponsors who make this all possible. I’m so grateful to be able to continue to follow my dreams and without the help and support of our sponsors, none of this would be possible.

I’ve just returned home from Estoril in Portugal for the final round of the World Endurance Championship. I teamed up with my good mates Jon Railton and Johnny Blackshaw as part of the British Endurance Racing Team for the 12 hour of Estoril. They are a new team to the World Endurance Championship in the last year or two, and I had a great time helping them continue to learn and improve in this championship! Race report on this event to follow, once I’ve caught up on some sleep and got back to work for a few days!

💥💥Master of Mac Round 2 SA CHAMPIONSHIPS 💥💥

Had an amazing weekend at Mac Park.

Kicked off the weekend with Friday practice, weather was awesome and I got 5 sessions on track, Dad and I made a few minor adjustments to the bike setup and I was feeling really confident with the bike.

Saturday morning was straight in to a 20-minute qualifying session, I did 5 to 6 laps then came in to check where I was placed. I was in 3rd but thought I could do quicker so I went back out and managed to beat my PB by doing a 1.11.3s lap wasn’t quite quick enough to move in to 2nd but I was still stocked on 3rd and my time, it turned out to be the 5th quickest qualifying time out of all competitors of every class.

Race 1 didn’t get the greatest start but still managed to stay 3rd in to turn 1 behind Dallas Skeer 1st and Ty Lynch 2nd I stayed with the two in front for 2 or 3 laps then they started to gap me I finished in 3rd with a 16 second gap to 4th it was a wicked race.

Race 2 got a heaps better start and was in 2nd behind Dallas, Ty. Ty snuck around the outside between turn 2 and 3 so I hung on and tailed him for as long as I could. I managed to hang on to them for longer then the first race finishing in 3rd again. That was the end of racing for Saturday.

Sunday morning race 3 the weather had come in wet which I didn’t mind as I like wet races had an awesome start was in 2nd place behind Ty it was a really close race between Ty and I. I finished the race right on Ty’s back wheel in 2nd place had so much fun in the wet

Race 4 the track was drying out so we decided to go with slicks Ty and Dallas made the same decision to go with slicks. Most of the field stayed on wets. I had a killer start went in to turn 1 in 3rd On lap 2 made a move on Ty and got in to 2nd the next lap ran a little wide in to turn 1 which let Ty through and I was unable to get back passed.

Had an amazing weekend coming away with a 3rd place trophy

SIDEWINDERS JUNIOR SPEEDWAY REVS INTO THE 2020/21 SEASON ON SEPTEMBER 19TH.

SIDEWINDERS JUNIOR SPEEDWAY REVS INTO THE NEW SEASON ON SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 19TH.

With the current COVID-19 restrictions, things will be a little different, but the crew at Sidewinders are looking forward to getting back on the track again.

All of SA’s amazing junior speedway talent are set for a big season and many have changed classes as they have progressed over the off season at Coaching Days.  Kobi Canning makes his debut in the Solo race class, and all know it won’t be long before he is challenging the other solo riders.

Some of the Peewees have stepped up a class, and there are quite a few who are making their debut this season in the Novice Solo class, which is a great sign for the future of junior speedway in SA.

Gates will open at 4.30pm and racing will commence at 6.30pm.

 Adult admission is only $5.00 (with all profits going back into junior speedway), Children U16 Free – so why would you want to stay home on a Saturday night.

The awesome Sidewinders Canteen will be in operation, (and again, with all monies raised going back into giving junior riders an awesome venue to race at), but there will be strict guidelines to follow due to COVID restrictions.   COVID Marshals will be in attendance to guide you through the changes so everyone can all get their fix of junior speedway going for the season.

Sidewinders are looking forward to seeing everyone on the hill to support the kids, who are as keen as mustard to get back on the track.

SCHWARZ EXCAVATIONS 2020 SA TRIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS – ENTRIES ARE NOW OPEN!

Spread the word – entries have now opened for our 2020 SA Trial Championships, being run by the Juventus MCC., supported by Schwarz Excavations, and the Vine Inn Barossa who will be catering over both days!
Using one of SA’s prime trials venues at Eden Valley – and with the Aussies due to return to SA in 2023, this MAY be your only chance to ride the property beforehand – so, with on-site camping available, let’s get a full field for our premier event of 2020!

The 2020 SA Trial Championships welcomes long-time supporter of Trial in SA, and 4 time naming rights supporter of the Australian Trial Championships, the Vine Inn Barossa as the caterer for this year’s Championships.

Food will be available both days from 10.00am until about 3.00pm-ish, with yiros (lamb & chicken) and hot chips the order of the day, with the yiros served in a way that they can be eaten as you walk around the sections watching the action!
