102 SOUTH AUSSIES HEADING TO HATTAH THIS WEEKEND

This weekend will see the annual trek to North West Victoria for the famous Hattah Desert Race, with the 500+ field dotted with 102 South Australians across all classes (with perhaps a few more with those who haven’t listed a club).

48 junior and 54 senior South Aussies will attack the 2019 event, with the largest class being an eye into the future of the sport here in SA, the Under 19’s, which has 13 entries from SA and will be spearheaded by Will Price and Cooper Sheidow.

The next biggest class is the 200-250cc 4 stroke 13 – U16 Years class with 12 entries, led by Mitchell Stanway & Charlie Milton

And what was most pleasing is that SA has representatives in all classes except 1, the Girls 7 – U12 Class

Good luck to all of our riders who are heading over the border this weekend – ride hard, ride fast, ride safe!

TROY Series SA, GLENMAGGIE & NATIONAL TRIALS DAY – IT’S ALL HAPPENING OUT ON THE ROCKS!

April 26, 2019 Filed Under: News, Trials

SA’S AWESOME RAID OF THE PODIUMS AT THE GLENMAGGIE EASTER CLASSIC!

With the SA season to start this weekend in Victor Harbor, a number of SA’s finest trials riders warmed up for the season and did a sneak attack across the border at the Glenmaggie Easter Classic Trial.
SA riders managed 3 first placings, 1 second, a fourth and a seventh from the event. Father & son, Steve & Josh Rees led the way, with Steve coming out on top in Masters and Josh winning Trial 3 (B Grade), a brilliant result for the 16 year old.
The 3rd win was by Peter Arnold in Veterans, holding off the fast finishing Don Murray from the ACT, with Australia #2, Connor Hogan 2nd outright in Trial 1 (Expert), behind Tim Coleman, who was having a rare ride these days – but was playing in his backyard.
Another excellent result was from World Championship bound Lillie Yiatrou, who was 4th in Trial 3 (B Grade), only 6 points off the podium, and in front of former Australian Champion, John Rees.
Also having her first ride at Glenmaggie was Melissa Bruce, who finished an excellent 7th in the highly contested Trial 4 (C Grade) Class.
Congrats and well done to all of Team SA that made the long trek to Australia’s biggest annual trial outside of the Aussies.

THE 10TH TROY Series SA KICKS OFF THIS SUNDAY @ VICTOR HARBOR!

On the back of the success by SA riders at Glenmaggie and after the family ride days 2 weeks ago at the same venue, the TROY Series SA 2019 kicks off this weekend at Victor Harbor with round 1 of the 5 round Series. Started in 2010, Troy Series SA was instigated to be a great addition to the yearly calendar and to compliment the stand alone SA Championship event, and now in its 10th year, TROY has become a great Series, with this year it being a 5 round Series, with rounds 2 – 5 being run from the end of July through to September by the Gawler, Keyneton, AJS & Velocette Clubs.
In action this weekend at round 1 will be SA’s 2 World Championship bound riders, Connor Hogan (Trial2) who will be flying out next weekend for the Scottish Six Day Trial, and Lillie Yiatrou, who will be debuting in the Trial2 Women’s World Cup in the 2nd half of the year.
With trials somewhat unique to the other disciplines, with only 1 rider in a section at a time, it means juniors can compete directly against seniors and this will be happening en masse, with Lillie being joined by Haydon Barwick in the Trial 3 (B Grade) Class, current Australian Champion Hayden Eardley in Trial 4 (C Grade), with Youth (under 19) riders Alex Cowan & Josh Rees debuting in Trial 2 (A Grade) this weekend.
Perhaps the class to watch this weekend may be the Junior B Class, Trials SA’s youngest stars and what could be a boys verses girls battle as well – as Oliver & Harry Lancaster, Isaac Schultz and Harry Peterson take on Ashley Barwick, Lucy Cowan and Hayley Stephen.
The future of trials here in SA certainly looks bright with the amount of talented riders under the age of 20 – and the majority are in action this weekend at Victor!
The event is free to all spectators, who are able to wander around the sections and get up close and personal to the action, and there will be catering by the awesome Café Dee Wheels, with their homemade burgers, complete with their homemade chutneys – which are worth the drive to the event on their own!
Just turn right at the roundabout at the Urimbirra Fauna Park on the main Adelaide to Victor Harbor road, and the distance to the Trial site is 15.7 Kilometres and should take around 13 minutes, and will be signposted from the Waitpinga Road roundabout, Victor Harbor.

AND IN 2 WEEKS TIME – NATIONAL TRIALS DAY – ON MAY 5!

2019 once again sees Australian teams struggling for funding, so the trials community of Australia have taken the bull by the horns, and led by SA’s peter Arnold, are running the 2nd annual ‘National Trials Day’, where each state runs a trial on the same day, with all proceeds going to getting Team Australia to the Trials des Nations.
The SA National Trials Day will be held at Tungkillo, with free entry once again to spectators, who will also be able to donate to the team, or buy raffle tickets for the team raffle.
It also might be a good idea to note that SA has 2 riders in the 2019 Trials des Nation’s Team Australia, Connor Hogan for the fourth year running and debutant, 15 year old Lillie Yiatrou, as well as Lillie’s dad, Andrew, who will be one of the team minders.
Get out to Tungkillo on Sunday May 5th to help get our riders to Spain in September – and watch Lillie in action on the day as well (Connor will be in Scotland riding the Scottish 6 Day Trial).

STEPH CUTLER WINS 6TH SA WOMEN’S CUP FOR MOTOCROSS!

April 24, 2019 Filed Under: Motocross, News

STEPH CUTLER WINS 6TH SA WOMEN’S CUP FOR MOTOCROSS!

SA Women’s Motocross ‘legend’, Steph Cutler added to her already impressive resume by winning the Hallett Concrete 2019 SA Women’s Cup over Easter at Port Pirie, winning 3 of the 4 heats to claim her 6th win in this event.

Held as part of the Port Pirie MCC’s annual ‘King of the Gulf’ event over the Easter weekend Cutler managed to keep the hard charging Amy Bartch at bay in 3 of the 4 heats, with Bartch winning the 2nd heat to keep her challenge alive right up to the final heat, making for some exciting racing for SA’s prestigious women’s MX event.

Unfortunately for Amy, the 2018 SA #1 in the SA MX Championship, this is the mirror image of the 2018 SA Women’s Cup, where she also finished runner-up to Steph in their long running rivalry in SA motocross events.

3rd and on the final step of the podium was the teenage Chloe Barton, an excellent result for the first year senior rider, to finish on the podium in her first senior event. Chloe was a model of consistency all event with 4 3rd placings to her name.

Kara Footner & Charlotte Berrill rounded out the top 5 mixing placings all event and just managing to keep Tarja Morris at bay.

SA Women’s Cup action about to get serious with Chloe Barton #28, Steph Cutler #24 & Tarja Morris #755 on the start line.

In the junior classes, there were some outstanding results by the SA girls!

In the ‘Prince of the Gulf’ event Aimee Butler was the lone girl and up against some of SA’s finest juniors Aimee came home with an awesome 9th, but such was the closeness of the competition, she was only 9 points of 5th in the overall, an outstanding effort that was noticed by many, and especially her starts where she was consistantly getting the holeshot!

Aimee also rode in the 125cc 13-16 years class and finished an excellent 5th overall over the 3 rounds of racing, and again getting a number of holeshots!

The ‘Master & the Student’, Steph Butler gives Aimee Butler some last second tips before the gate drops. Emma Haylock, who has started the 2019 season with a rush and has taken all before her so far!

Ride of the weekend though, according to many who were present, went to Emma Haylock, who rode in the 85cc 2 Stroke & 150cc 4 Stroke 12-16 Years class and finished 4th overall, which included an excellent podium finish in heat 2.

Such was Emma’s riding, she was only 1 point off an overall podium for the day in what has been an excellent start to the season by her.

Also in the class were the Collins sisters, Makayla & Dakota, who started off well until Makayla decided to part company with her bike in a big way, with her sister stopping to help. Luckily Makayla escaped with minor injuries and will be back on a bike soon.

Also having a ride were 2 newbies to the sport, Ava Sparrow and Ameila Gwiazda, who were riding in the 65cc 10-12 years Class, with them riding to 5th & 6th place respectively ovet the course of the event.

Well done to all and fantastic to see so many girls starting of the year so well in motocross.

A huge well done and thanks also to the Port Pirie MCC for continuing to support our SA Women in Motorcycling and in motocross in particular!

Now the girls will be all gearing up for round 1 of the ‘Eagle Campers & Trailers’ SA Motocross Championships to be held at Renmark on May 11 & 12, with the junior & senior classes for women and girls sponsored by Butler’s Mechanical Service and Titanium Security Australia.

2019 EP SERIES (FOR MOTOCROSS); A GREAT SUCCESS FOR THE WEST!

2019 EP SERIES; A GREAT SUCCESS FOR THE WEST!

South Australia’s west coast clubs have held the 2019 EP Series (Eyre Peninsula) for motocross and was well supported over the three rounds, hosted by the Port Lincoln, West Coast (Ceduna) and Whyalla clubs. Riders from as far as Crystal Brook, Roxby Downs and Adelaide attended each meeting that helped bring rider numbers to almost 150 for the series, and all commented how much fun they had riding at the country clubs. This is a true reflection of the hospitality of the members and the hard work they all put into the preparation and running of the Series.

All three clubs had tough weather conditions to deal with due to event being run in the heat of a drought, with no rain to assist with dust control so endless amounts of water, read truck loads, went into each track, but it was a battle.

Pt Lincoln rebuilt its track with a new layout that proved to be a winner with all competitors enjoying the more flowing and new passing opportunities available. National rider Izac Maule came and competed and showed how fast a MX bike can be ridden with fellow riders and spectators amazed at his skills.

Ceduna (West Coast MCC) hosted round two and was a good practice run for their South Australian Championship round later this year and also had a top national rider Daniel Banks attend. Daniel rode with great speed and style to take the win and as always looked very smooth and casual while on the bike.

Whyalla was the last round and this was where all the hard work for the riders added up to their well-earned titles and for the annual club shield to be presented. All classes were hotly contested with some amazing racing throughout the whole series and to all riders’ credit done cleanly without any incidents between competitors.

A huge thanks, from all 3 clubs, must go out to all the people that helped at each event, without these dedicated volunteers the series simply wouldn’t happen, with the interclub assistance amazing to see.

Also to all of the sponsors that helped each club, it is always desperately needed and greatly appreciated by all involved.

The 2019 EP Series final results are;

MX1 1ST SIEGAH WARD   MX2 INT 1ST RHYS KEMP
2ND ZAC HOFFRICHTER     2ND JARED HOFFRICHTER
3RD ROHAN LAMBEFF     3RD BRETT RAE

450cc INT 1ST ADAM SPIKIN   CLUB 450cc 1ST MARK PHILLIPS
2ND JESSE KEMP     2ND PHIL TABONE
3RD MATT VLACHOULIS     3RD JASON RAE

VETERANS 1ST ADAM McLEAN   JUNIOR 125cc 1ST JACK SECKER
2ND CLINT LETTON     2ND JAMAYAH CRAIG
3RD NATHAN MILLER     3RD JACK LIENERT

85cc BIG WHEEL 1ST BANJO LAWRENCE   65cc 9-U12 1ST KOBY MILLER
  2ND CAMPBELL O’BRIEN     2ND SARI LETTON
3RD BEN DIXON     3RD BLAKE PHILLIPS

65cc 7-9 YEARS 1ST LEVI ROSS   50cc DIV 2 1ST TAO LETTON
2ND SAM DIXON     2ND KYLAN MILLER
          3RD BLAKE SMITH

The overall Club points went to Pt Lincoln with six class wins five second placings and two third places so a big congratulations to those riders from Pt Lincoln club.

Whyalla came in second place with Ceduna in third position but at the end of the day it only really mattered about the riders’ enjoyment and the spirit between the fellow country clubs,

All 3 of the Eyre Peninsula Clubs extend the invitation to any riders in the state to come and ride their club days. Or if you like compete in our next EP Series we are sure you will be surprised at the competition and hospitality available .

‘ROCKHOPPING SA’ 2019 S.A. WOMEN’S CUP & DIENER / HOLMES SIDECAR TROPHY ENTRIES TO OPEN IN THE FIRST WEEK OF MAY!

‘ROCKHOPPING SA’ 2019 S.A. WOMEN’S CUP & DIENER / HOLMES SIDECAR TROPHY ENTRIES TO OPEN IN THE FIRST WEEK OF MAY!

Entries for the 2019 South Australian Women’s Cup and the Diener/Holmes Sidecar Trophy, to be run on June 30th, will open in the first week of May, and will contain all of the details relating to this great event run by the Keyneton MCC.

Look for all the need to know relating to;

VENUE (likely to be Eden Valley)

CAMPING

CATERING

RIDE TIMES

SATURDAY COACHING / PRACTISE DAY

This will be the 11th running of the first event in SA to have the girls & women as the headliners, an event that also celebrates the careers of the Keyneton MCC’s great Champions in Trevor Diener & Philip Holmes and has twice been nominated for the FIM Women in Motorcycling Award (2016 & 2018)

Classes will be as per previous Women’s Cups and continues to follow the Australian Women’s Cup as instigated by Bev Anderson in the ACT, with the classes as follows;

PRO (red line), EXPERT (yellow), SPORT & MASTERS (blue), NOVICE (white), JUNIOR A (white), JUNIOR B (black) & MINI TRIAL (orange name plate w/- run of section)

There will also be a ‘Non-Comp’ class, where riders can have a ride on a recreational licence and try trials without the pressure of competition.

All the details will be in the supplementary regulations that will be released when entries open.

Being held on the final weekend of June for the first time means that it is also being run on the first weekend of the eastern states school holidays, so it’s an ideal time for a trip to the Barossa & Eden Valleys, a great trial venue for the kids (and parents), and great food & wines to try for the parents!

This will also be the last event that Lillie Yiatrou will ride on home soil before heading overseas to debut in the Women’s Trial2 World Cup, with her first round being in Portugal, so what better way to wish her the best than to come and have a ride alongside of her!

The Keyneton MCC is also excited to welcome back as naming rights partner, long time event partner, Greg Knight and his business, Rockhopping SA, with support from The Hell Team and Oset Bikes Downunder – great support for a great event.

The Keyneton MCC’s 2 Australian representatives will likely both be in action at the 2019 SA Women’s Cup – 2018 Champion Lillie Yiatrou and 2012 & 2016 Champion, Sofie Kraft, who is returning after time off working overseas.
