SAMX ROUND 2 @ KEITH – A WEEKEND OF BRILLIANT RACING AT A BRILLIANT VENUE!

June 20, 2019 Filed Under: Motocross, News, SAMX Championship, State Championship

Round 2 of the Eagle Trailers & Campers 2019 SA MX Championships, held at Andy Caldecott Park in Keith was one for the ages, with fantastic racing across all grades at one of SA’s finest venues, with congratulations to the Keith & Districts MCC for hosting such an impressive event.

A large crowd witnessed the bright future of the sport here in SA on the Saturday, with some outstanding rides by so many junior riders over the day, which was backed up on the Sunday by the seniors doing the same, led by Brett Metcalfe, who showed all the back wheel of his bike as he went on the claim the Andy Caldecott Memorial Trophy in MX 1

(Pic on left courtesy from Aaryn Minerds as he describes below, with the pic on the right courtesy of Rachel Larwood showing the great crowd watching the action)

Said Aaryn Minerds

“I was not going to get the camera out on Sunday, but when Honda Motorcycles Australia Brett Metcalfe decides to throw down, I thought it best to point the lens in his direction and he did not disappoint, laying it low over the huge step down to grab the lead from Levi McManus in the final MX1 one moto.”

Awesome round at Keith for the second round of the SA State Titles. Managed to get some good starts and go 1-1-1 for first overall in the MX2 Expert class.
Massive thanks to Clint Gow-Smith for boarding me and helping me throughout the day and Ryley Newbold for prepping my gate.

Big thanks to the people that help me;

Coast Powersports; APR MX Development; Dunlop Super Dealer @minautocentre; SK Designs Australia; Banks MX Coaching @ TAtraining; Mum & Dad

Emma Haylock

Rnd 2 Keith State Titles went to plan.
Dad and I worked on what we needed to achieve this weekend. I managed to get a 1st in both the first and second race which took the pressure off me for race 3.
Made up some valuable points after a DNF last round.
Got amazing starts in all 3 motos which helped me.
Had some great battles with my friend Dakota, swapping the lead several times.
Looking forward for Round 3 at Ceduna

Many thanks to my awesome sponsors for 2019;

BMS Racing; Butlers Mechanical Service; Castrol; Tracy Ian Butler; Moto Adelaide; Titanium Security Australia Pty Ltd; Specialised Career Solutions Adelaide – RTO 32292; GAS Imports Pty Ltd

Wow that was a tough weekend for RND 2 of SA State MX titles, from bike not running Saturday.

I haven’t been well all week and today it seems to hit me the worst so much dad told me to pull out of the MX2 class and just ride the woman’s, but me being stubborn said no I’m riding.

As I went to the start line for race 1 I was feeling very nauseous and didn’t think I’ll make it through but pushed on.

In the MX2 I went 6,7,7 for 8th out right out of the 21 strong field.

In the woman’s I went 2,2,2 for 2nd outright and still holding onto 2nd in the championship.
A big thank you to Kelly for preparing me some food even so I didn’t eat much.
A massive thanks to all my sponsors;

BMS Racing; Butlers Mechanical Service; Castrol; Titanium Security Australia Pty Ltd; Painttech; Emar seats; Get Displays; Moto Adelaide; Utilities construction

Have to say a big thank you to the Rayner family for all your support

& from the hosts; Keith & Districts MCC

And that’s another titles done & dusted!!!

Both days went well with only a few hiccups, & the highlight on Sunday was the man himself Brett Metcalf racing in the MX1 Experts, & being awarded the Andy Caldecott Memorial Trophy, something our members will be talking about for a long time!

A massive shout out to all our members, volunteers, officials, C.R.A.B.S for flagging & all spectators who came & supported our club on the weekend!

A very special mention to Makayla Kitchen who came to the rescue when my camera decided to not work, & took on the fb page to promote & keep everyone up to date for both days of the competition. She is a very talented & kind human being & we are truly thankful for what you did!

We can’t forget our major sponsors for their continued support, without you events like this just wouldn’t happen!

Everyone at KDMCC is hoping you enjoyed the day as much as we did & thank you for the support.

June 14, 2019 Filed Under: Motocross, News, SAMX Championship, State Championship

EAGLE TRAILERS & CAMPERS 2019 SA MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIPS; THE BATTLE(S) RESUME THIS WEEKEND AT KEITH!

After a fantastic opening round in the Riverland, this weekend sees round 2 of the 2019 SA Motocross Championships, partnered again by the brilliant crew from Eagle Trailers & Campers, with support from Butler’s Mechanical Services and Titanium Security Arena, being held at the brilliant Andy Caldecott Park at Keith.

Being a 2 day event, with juniors on Saturday and seniors on Sunday (as well as Junior 250cc), camping is permitted at the venue at $5.00 per site, which can be paid for at the canteen.

Speaking of the canteen – Keith’s is ‘legendary’, and once again they will have a full canteen and bar facilities, which will include their famous hot roast rolls, and there will be a coffee van & the Lions club van will also be there for hot chips & donuts

The reigning MSA Club of the Year crew have been flat out, are as keen as & can smell that 2 stroke oil already!!! The sun is shining, the track is looking amazing and the rain gods have been very generous.

AND ON SUNDAY; The Andy Caldecott Memorial Race Sunday for MX1 Experts to close the event – a great race to remember an amazing Champion, and MSA Hall of Fame inductee.

Also check out their page on Facebook and like the page for more details.

Admission for spectators is also aimed at being family friendly;

Saturday;   Adults $5.00       Juniors $2.00 (5 years & over)

Sunday       Adults $10.00     Juniors $5.00 (5 years & over)

Children under 5 years – free entry

Gates open at 6.00am both days with practice starting from 8.00am

The Club would also like to send a massive shout out to their Club’s major sponsors, to quote the club; “We wouldn’t have or be able to do what we do if it wasn’t for your generosity & support!”

INTERNATIONAL UPDATE FROM 4 TALENTED SOUTH AUSSIES!

INTERNATIONAL UPDATE FROM 4 TALENTED SOUTH AUSSIES!

Connor Hogan at the Trial GP 2019 Japan
After qualifying well inside the top 15 for round 2 of the Trial2 World Championship, Connor Hogan had a tough weekend at Motegi in Japan;
“A tough weekend for me here in Japan, with nothing really going right. Very muddy and slippery conditions across the two days. My riding wasn’t great on Saturday but I felt much more comfortable Sunday. However, I simply did not have luck on my side, I had many 5’s due to unforeseen problems inside the sections. Ended up 28th two days in a row which is very frustrating. Thanks to Dad for filling in as minder for the weekend.”

Brian Anthony at the Sidecar-cross World Championship, Estonia
After scoring points in his first GP last weekend in France, this weekend was a bit tougher for Brian Anthony in Estonia;
“Kivioli GP was a tough one, in the qualification race I tweaked my leg/knee, which got was sore and I had a dead leg so struggled quite a lot with it.
Race one; we had a pretty good start from second row but got hit by another bike in the back which was no problem, but then in the next right turn we came together again, causing us to crash and Joe hit his hand on a post, but we kept on but with no googles and long way back, but in the end we decided to pull in to the pits to save ourselves for race 2.
In race 2 we had a good start again, but I had a lot of trouble with the leg/knee, I knew what I needed to do but had no power in my leg at all giving us bad stability on the bike. Then, to top off a tough weekend, with only few laps to go the engine started cutting out after quarter throttle, so we had to pull out unfortunately.
No excuses, races don’t stop for things like this, but we/I take positives out of it, as I learnt lots and my physical condition felt OK except for the leg/knee. So, will work on sorting that and keep working to do what I feel I can do, its certainly not easy but I wouldn’t be here if it was, I’d have stayed at home. And I finally got to go to the Kivioli GP, one I’d wanted to go to for so long! Week off next week then come back stronger at next German championship.”

Liam May in Germany
“Unfortunately I had to pull out of last night’s meeting in Gustrow due to a serious crash in race 2 resulting in a head and shoulder injury, also have withdrawn from the meeting in Herning Monday.
Hopefully I’ll be fit for next week in Czech Republic and Poland.
Thank you to all the medics and people who helped out!”

Brayden McGuiness in Europe!
Brayden had a busy weekend travelling around the north of Europe, taking in multiple countries, with some mixed results.
Friday night in Germany 6 points finishing 9th, 1 point short of a semi birth, with the meeting having 2 semis as per the Speedway GP format
After driving through the night to get to his Saturday Night Division 1 Teams Meeting, it was, unfortunately, rained off
And to finish the weekend off, Sunday night he scored 9 points in an open meeting at in Herning, Denmark

3 SOUTH AUSSIES IN TOP 10 OF THE 2019 WOMEN’S AUSTRALIAN MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIPS

June 13, 2019 Filed Under: Motocross, News, SAMX Championship

3 SOUTH AUSSIES IN TOP 10 OF THE 2019 WOMEN’S AUSTRALIAN MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIPS

With the 2019 Women’s Australian Motocross Championships now done & dusted, the final points table has now come to light – and 3 South Aussie girls finished in the top 10, with Amy Bartsch also grabbing a top 5 finish in 5th, followed by Steph Cutler in 7th and Charlotte Berrill in 9th.

All 3 were consistent in their results, with Steph the only rider to have a problem in any of the races, with a flat tyre during the Monarto round. Other than that, top 10 finishes were the order of the day!

And while the top 3 of Rutledge, Moore & Brown were just that bit far in front in all the races, 4th to 10th was a close affair in most, giving our SA girls a challenge to look forward to in future years!

From Amy; “Massive weekend at Manjimup in WA racing the final round of the Australian Women’s Nationals. Coming out of MB I was sitting tied in 7th and desperately wanted to improve on that position. Went out for practice on Friday and took every session to gel with the track, thankfully I got myself sorted for the first race on Saturday finishing 6th. Sunday I was better for me as I got my head around the track and how it would form going 6,5,5 and finishing up the series in 5th in Australia.
Now I can honestly say that Manjimup is hands down the best track I have ridden and I will definitely be heading back in the future!”

From Steph; “Manjimup 15,000 is an event I have always wanted to ride and I finally got to cross it off my bucket list. And it sure as hell didn’t disappoint. Probably the most fun I’ve had on my bike, even when I was struggling I was still smiling. Started the 3rd round of the Women’s Championship in 11th. Went 5, 7, 6, 6 for the weekend and finished 7th in the Championship overall. Pretty stoked on the results after coming off a whole year not riding and lack of fitness.”

From Charlotte; “Overall final results for the Australian Women’s Championship 2019 published today – 9th overall in Australia!! My aim was to manage a better finish than my 24th finish last year and it’s a definite improvement! Thank you so much to everyone who makes this racing dream possible for me.”

With 2 rounds on home soil at Monarto (Murray Bridge) followed by the 3rd and final round at the famous Manjimup track in WA, it made for a long trek across the Nullabor for all of the riders, and especially those from the Eastern states.

Huge congratulations to all of the MX women for making the commitment to ride the 2109 Championship, which had a total of 25 women ride at least one of the rounds, so great numbers going forward.

With thanks to JF Photography for the photos from Manjimup – awesome!

SOUTH AUSSIE SUCCESS AT FINKE!

June 11, 2019 Filed Under: All disciplines, Enduro, News, SAORC

Congratulations to all from South Australia who rode the 2019 Tatts Finke Desert Race, and especially those who conquered the desert – with only around 10 of the 80+ South Aussies who entered not making it to Finke & back – an amazing result!

Need to especially congratulate Tom Jones, who finished as the top South Aussie in a great 9th outright out of the 600+ starters, and to top it off Tom also won his class, the Masters 35-39 Years class. (pictured below)

Kyle Pfitzner was the only other South Aussie in the top 20th, in 13th outright, and he also came home with a class win – the 251cc & Above 2 Stroke class.

Only other South Aussie on a podium was quad rider, Lachlan Bailey who finished 2nd in the Up to 40 Years class.

Well done and congratulations to Tom, Kyle & Lachlan – and for the fiull list of finishers, head here for a scroll through; www.finkedesertrace.com.au/2019-bike-results

Shout out also to expat South Aussie, Alex Long (below on bike #487), who led the SA female charge, and after starting around 500th, picked up a heap of placings each way to finish 296th – and make it 5 finishes from 5 starts!

Bad luck to SA’s top chances in Kent Collins and Daniel Banks who both didn’t make it back from Finke, with Kent well inside the top 10 after day 1 and Daniel in the top 20!

Daniel Banks (#13) and Kent Collins during the prologue

With thanks to Tatts Finke Desert Race media & Lynn Long for the pics
