RESULTS – SOUTH AUSSIES CONTINUE THE 2023 ASBK CHARGE INTO MORGAN PARK RACEWAY

July 18, 2023 Filed Under: ASBK, News, Road Racing

Over halfway through the 2023 Championship season the points tables, not to mention on-track rivalries are really starting to heat up. With plenty of anticipation coming into this round, a strong South Aussie contingent loaded the bikes and made the trip to Morgan Park Raceway in sunny Queensland for Round 5 of the 2023 mi-Bike Australian Superbike Championships over the 14 -16th of July. Coming to the business end of the season, we’re seeing riders pulling out all the stops to gain valuable championship points and cement season rankings.

Boy was this round a standout, first of all, we can’t go on without mentioning just some of the fantastic results of the weekend –

Olly Simpson – Continuing to wow fans, he rode exceptionally strong from the get-go, claiming a 2nd place finish in race 1 to kick off the weekend. All warmed up, he continued on to take the P1 top spot for race 2, the round overall win and continue to lead the 2023 ASBK Supersport 600 Championship  – Well done and we can’t wait to see you bring it home for the final Championship races.

Ty Lynch – after crashing out whilst leading race 1 and dislocating his shoulder, Ty fought back to claim a third place finish for race 2. He currently sits 5th in Supersport 600 for the round and 3rd overall in the Championship standings – What a great comeback!

Archie Schmidt – Showed the Oceania Junior Cup field how it’s done. He nailed a second place finish in race 1, third place for race 2 and first place finish in race 3. This put him in the P1 hot seat for the round and second place overall for the 2023 Oceania Junior Cup. Pretty spectacular if I do say so myself!!

RESULTS – TRECHEROUS CONDITIONS FOR THE 99 YEAR OLD HARDI 24 HOUR TRIAL

July 16, 2023 Filed Under: News, Reliability

The weather was wild with high winds and rain showers, which is usually a good excuse to stay indoors for the weekend. However, this did not stop hundreds of spectators converging at the Eudunda Oval for the start of the 2023 HARDI 24 Hour Trial. Beginning at 11:01am Saturday, minute-by-minute, 164 competitors started on 133 machines, which includes 31 sidecars and 102 solos. Some described The course as ‘brutal’ due to dry conditions in some areas exposing rocks and winds causing havoc with course marking.

The Did-Not-Finish list totalled 53 machines by the finish on Sunday afternoon, with 80 completing the full event. Many Sidecars that did finish limped home with mechanical issues. Provisional results show that in Open Solos, #83 Cooper Sheidow, who always looked in command, pulled off a convincing provisional win with 22095 points, ahead of 2nd place #79 Sean Throup with 23284 and 3rd #90 Jamie Banks – 23363 points. In Open Sidecars, #6 Shane ‘Crash’ Schiller and Steven ‘Stiff’ Doecke, while sitting in second place for most of the trial, put in a blistering 4th lap to take the provisional win in the final section by 11 seconds with a total of 26094 points. #8 Max Hutchesson and Sam Hutchesson took second place with 26105 points after battling with Crash and Stiff all night. 3rd place was claimed by #4 Bradley Manuel and Ash Ball with 26990 points.

Full provisional results are available at www.24hrtrial.com The organising committee would like to thank the hundreds of people involved in ensuring a successful event including volunteers, officials, control keepers, caterers, medical staff, fuel suppliers, landowners, Eudunda Sporting club, the Regional Council of Goyder and all others. The 2023 HARDI 24 Hour Trial Presentation Night was at 7:30pm Saturday July 15th 2023 at the Vine Inn Barossa, Nuriootpa. Preparations are continuing for the 24 Hour Trial Centenary in 2024, celebrating the oldest motorcycling event in Australia.

Thanks go out to SandPlow Photography for the photos of all the weekend action and congratulations to all the 24 Trial Committee for another fantastic year.

#6 Shane ‘Crash’ Schiller/ Steven ‘Stiff’ Doecke leaving control                  #17 Kristy Schultz and Ayla Plowman doing it for the ladies.

on their way for their 2023  journey.

Event Wrap Up – 2023 bLU cRU SA Junior Cup Take On The Bend For Round 3

July 13, 2023 Filed Under: News, Road Racing, SA Junior Cup

Round 3 of the bLU cRU South Australian Junior Cup held on the 8th/9th of July was an event that was never going to disappoint, with wildcards #11 Judd Plaisted and #34 Elijah Andrew joining the core group of bLU cRU riders and hosted by CAFNIX and Preston MCC at the well renowned The Bend International Circuit.

A Saturday morning dawn coaching session and track tour was the start of the weekend for these young racers, receiving expert advice and tips for each section of the track from Ty Lynch and Samuel Pezzetta ahead of a timed practice for what would be the first time many of these juniors would experience this circuit. Only a single qualifying session after practice meant that rider feedback and bike setup was crucial, and even in wet conditions a blistering pace was set early on by #69 Archie Schmidt, #11 Judd Plaisted and #7 Xayvion Amoy securing front row positions of 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

RACE ONE:: The midday weather continued to prove difficult to predict, and the damp but drying track kept the pit shed busy with last minute tyre changes. Constant battles with countless leader changes between the front runners held the unwavering attention of the crowd and only .3 of a second separated Judd and Archie in first and second places respectively with Xayvion taking the bronze. While in the middle of the pack #99 Jai Strugnell and #46 Ghage Plowman were relentless in their battles with each other on track.

RACE TWO:: Sunday morning’s gentle shower before riders briefing was no challenge for the Pirelli wets on the Yamaha R15’s and with every confidence in their tyres race 2 was nothing short of nail biting. The four front runners Archie, Xayvion, Elijah and Judd finishing 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively, all changing leadership multiple times per lap throughout the four laps and had the crowds of spectators filling the fourth story sky deck balcony striving for the best view and cheering and clapping from start to finish.

Strong finishes from #27 Cooper Pitt, #68 Lucas Warren and #79 Jamie Gregory and constant improvement from #17 Payton Kemp and $42 Josh Schiller meant that every junior competitor was eager to pull their last tricks out of the bag for race three, but unfortunately weather conditions and on track incidents cut the schedule short and finalised proceedings early.

Final outcomes for the weekend were :
🥇Archie Schmidt
🥈Judd Plaisted
🥉Xayvion Amoy
2023 bLU cRU SA Junior Cup Points Table:

EVENT PREVIEW – 99 YEARS IN THE MAKING – THE ICONIC HARDI 24 HOUR KICKS INTO ACTION FOR 2023

July 5, 2023 Filed Under: Enduro, News

The HARDI 24-Hour Trial, an annual motorcycle reliability trial that was first run in South Australia in 1924, is the must-see event this weekend. This year, the town of Eudunda once again is the host after a 4-year rest due to pandemic and drought. 168 competitors on 137 machines will begin to file off in one-minute intervals this Saturday 8 July from Main Control at 11.01am at the Eudunda Oval.

With longer distances in competitive stages, this year is sure to be a challenge for both rider and machine. Course conditions are looking favorable due to a good amount of rainfall in June; however, it is almost a certainty that the bikes will find some dust between mallee trees somewhere on the course.  At least 300 volunteers will again be assisting in running the event including many motorcycle clubs running control points spread out around the Eudunda and surrounding districts. Spectators are well catered for with three competitive sections around the course will be on offer this year to the public as designated spectator sections, with many hundreds of spectators expected to be in attendance.

For those looking for refreshments, the Eudunda Sporting Club will be catering to the public at the Main Control for the duration of the event. The Eudunda Roadhouse will remain open all night to offer fuel, food and drinks. The Eudunda Show Society will have 24 Hour Trial merchandise available at Main Control with card facilities 3pm – 6pm Friday and from 9am Saturday.

Again, the field is looking ripe for some tight competition. 2023 sees 31 sidecars line up for the largest sidecar field in 24 years. Last year’s winning rider Shane Beckmann is back with his regular passenger Adam Brook, after Adam had to sit out last year’s Trial due to a Covid diagnosis. Shane will be after a second win to share with Adam.
Shane ‘Crash’ Schiller is celebrating a win in his class in the Welsh 2 Day Enduro in the UK last weekend with last year’s winning passenger Brian Anthony. ’Crash’ will be attacking this year’s 24 Hour Trial with his regular passenger Steven ‘Stiff’ Doecke who have previously won together on three occasions. 4-time winners Mark Launer and Tyson Rohrlach are also fresh off the plane from the Welsh 2 Day and will be looking to carry that momentum into the ’24’. Max and Sam Hutchesson, also 4-time winners are back after Max took a year off due to injury.

Out of the 106 Solos, the Expert class is looking strong. Two-time winner Riley Graham will again front up against 4-time winner Sean Throup. Both past champions have had limited bike time for 2023, but do they have the upper hand with their past knowledge and experience? These two will also have hot competition from locals Zach Tremaine and Clinton Voigt.

Another two riders that will be chasing the #1 spot are Jacob Smith and Cooper Sheidow. Jacob is returning from Condobolin NSW to make amends for his DNF last year and placed 6th at the Finke Desert Race 4 weeks ago, while Cooper won the recent Robertstown Two Day Trial in his first attempt at night riding and finished 6th outright at the Hattah Desert Race last weekend. On top of this, you can throw in a handful of other riders that are capable of a potential win.

Scrutineering of machines will take place on Friday Night. Live timing will again enable the trial to be followed to the second from anywhere around the course and around the world. This means that provisional results will be available shortly after the event with the Presentation Night being held on Saturday 15th July at the Vine Inn Barossa,
Nuriootpa. Live timing can be followed at www.24hrtrial.com

The 24 Hour Trial Organising Committee would like to thank the Regional Council of Goyder for the use of their road network and all the landowners for the generous use of their land. Spectators are asked to respect private and council land, please take all rubbish with them, and take care on the roads.

The committee have been hard at it again, preparing the oldest continuing motorcycle event in Australia as it builds up to the 24 Hour Trial Centenary next year.

Thank you to our sponsors for their continuing support:
