May 28, 2021 Filed Under: Dirt Track, Enduro, Motocross, News, Road Racing, SA Women in Motorcycling, SAORC, Speedway

A WEEKEND OF RIDE DAYS – AND A DIRT TRACK SLIDE AT VICTOR!

After the postponement of the PRO MX Nationals this weekend due to the latest COVID-19 lockdown over the border, this weekend has suddenly become a  get back out on the bike and enjoy a Ride Day, or a Come & Try Day, or a Dirt Track blast, or scrape your knee type of weekend!

Below is who and what is open this weekend now – including a chance to ride the MX Nationals prepared track at Gillman on Sunday – contact the clubs through their socials – or through the Club Directory on this website for all the relevant details!

And also not forgetting – MSA’s ACUSA Park in the hills will also be open on Sunday – 2 motocross tracks, enduro loop, juniors track, dirt track for the youngest riders, fully catered – a great family friendly atmosphere!

Get those bikes out of the shed and get riding – and after the rains this week, the off road tracks should be getting into some mint conditions!

Here’s the rundown!

ROUND 2 – 2021 SART CHAMPIONSHIP & SA MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP HEADLINE A HUGE WEEKEND!

May 21, 2021 Filed Under: Motocross, News, Reliability, SA Women in Motorcycling, SAMX Championship, State Championship

ROUND 2 – 2021 SART CHAMPIONSHIP & SA MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP HEADLINE A HUGE WEEKEND!

Saturday – Sedan – The Mike Connors Reliability Trial – the 61st running of the Keyneton MCC’s longest running annual event heads to Sedan this Saturday for round 2 of the South Australian Reliability Trials Championships, with the first bike due to head out on a 6 hour journey at 9.01am.

What will, at this stage, be a dry journey for the 130+ starters, sees a 2 lap journey of 3 hours each, with the first section, just around the corner from Main Control, being an awesome spectator area, at a local’s personal motocross track. So, come to Main Control in the morning, grab breakfast from the local community catering crew, then a program and directions to the spectator area and head out to watch some awesome action!

20+ sidecars will lead the field the away, followed by the Expert solos, old bikes, ladies and then the Clubman and aged classes – with lap 2 staring at 12.01pm for a 3.00pm finish for bike 1.

As mentioned above, the local Sedan Community Group will be catering the event all day, so please get around them and support their efforts, and especially as some are also our fabulous land owners, without whom those events couldn’t run!

The Keyneton MCC would like to thank all who are making this event happen – especially all of the control keepers who will be sitting out in the dust – and a big shout out to BAROSSA MOTORCYCLES in Nuriootpa for their continued support of the Club.

The SART Committee would like to thank MOBILITY SA, CBS BINS, ECO WASTE SOLUTIONS, BAROSSA 4X4 & OUTDOORS and PETER HENNEKAM’S SKETCHOGRAF for their great support of this SA Championship Series.

Action from the Sedan MX track from 2 years ago – and the winners of the 60th Keyneton MCC ‘Annual Road Trial’ from 2020 – Rowan Pumpa (outright & Mike Connors Trophy) and Max & Sam Hutchesson (sidecar & Weckert/Hollamby Trophy)

2021 EAGLE TRAILERS, CAMPERS & CARAVANS SOUTH AUSTRALIAN MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSIPS, presented by AMX SUPERSTORE – ROUND 2 THIS WEEKEND IN THE RIVERLAND

Saturday & Sunday – Renmark – SA Motocross Championships round 2 – the 2nd round of the 2021 South Australian Motocross Championships will kick off early tomorrow morning at Renmark, as the action hots up across all classes of the Championship, led by SA’s amazing future Champions with the junior Classes heading day 1!

Entry for spectators this weekend is a gold coin donation – with all proceeds going to charity – and there will be hot and cold catering all weekend at the Riverland JMC Canteen, with plenty of prime viewing areas at the venue as well.

Camping at the track is also welcome, so head to Sedan, watch the SART action until early arvo, then head to Renmark, catch the last of the junior races,  have a feed, roll out the swag, and then wake to some awesome action on Sunday morning, after an egg & bacon sanga of course!

With the juniors heading day 1 – with kids aged from 4 to 16, boys and girls, in action – day 2 will headline the senior competitions, again make and female riders, as well as the oldest juniors (15+) in the Junior Lites class – so both days will feature awesome racing and something for everyone to watch!

All this action from round 1 at Gillman – will be on show this weekend at Renmark as riders start to put their Championship run together, with a huge thanks to fullnoise.com.au for the brilliant pics!

EAGLE TRAILERS, CAMPERS & CARAVANS showed their ongoing commitment to the series, securing the Series Naming Rights sponsorship in a lucrative 2 year deal with AMX SUPERSTORE signing on for the 2021 and 2022 seasons as well. AMX STORE support is totalling $14K including round by round helmet and tyre giveaways, participation prizes, track side sales and much more.

BUTLERS MECHANICAL SERVICES continue to raise the bar and their increased pledge into the series in 2021 secured the Naming rights for the Woman’s Class with TITANIUM SECURITY AUSTRALIA supporting the Junior Girls Classes.

GBF CLOTHING, BANKS RACE DEVELOPMENT, KESSNERS MOTORCYCLES and COAST POWERSPORTS are the other fantastic Championship partners for 2021.

LILLIE YIATROU WINS 4TH SA WOMEN’S CUP (FOR TRIAL) IN A ROW!

May 18, 2021 Filed Under: News, SA Women in Motorcycling, Trials

LILLIE YIATROU WINS 4TH SA WOMEN’S CUP (FOR TRIAL) IN A ROW!

Reigning MSA Rising Star Award recipient, Lillie Yiatrou, made it 4 on the trot on Sunday in winning her 4th SA Women’s Cup in a row, making her the first to win the event 4 times, and the first to do it in a row as well, as she also took out the PRO Women’s Class. Hot on her heals though is junior rider, Alisha Harry, who easily won the SPORT Women’s Class, with all 3 entrants in this senior class being junior riders.

A total of 14 girls and women rode the event in 2021, sponsored again by the good folk at Rockhopping SA and run by the Keyneton MCC, and, for the 4th year running, there was also an all-female officiating crew running the event – with thanks to Verlaine Bell (Steward), Tyler Hogan (Clerk of Course), Carole ‘Crouch’ Tune (Race Secretary) and Wendy Holmes (Scrutineer)!

It was a double win for the ladies, with Melissa Rogers, along with rider Steve Rees, getting the gold in the 2021 Diener/Holmes Sidecar Trophy, the 3rd time the team have won the event (Steve’s 4th overall), with it pleasing to also see 3 sidecars in the Sidecar 2 Class this year.

Above left; 2021 SA Women’s Cup field, with the officials; (Rear from left) Lillie Yiatrou, Ella Peacock, Jasmine Tarrant, Anna Rogers, Tanya Harry, Melissa Rogers, Charlotte Cowan, Wendy Holmes, Tyler Hogan, Crouch Tune, Jesse Nourse, (Front from left) Verlaine Bell, Hayley Stephen, Alisha Harry, Chelsea Long, Cadance Long, Lucinda Cowan, Ashley Barwick.

Also great to see that the discipline of Trial is still the family sport – with three generations from one family all having a ride together (below) – and for the first time at an event, when David Long ended a 23 year retirement to ride along side his son, Aaron, and granddaughters Chelsea and Cadance, with the girls also having their first ever SA Women’s Cup ride – fantastic to see!

Also, on the Saturday there was a Come & Try Day for Girls and Women, with a few newbies coming out for a ride – with a huge thanks to Kieran Hill for taking the time to put them all through their paces – the improvement through the day was there for all to see!

SA WOMEN’S CUP & DIENER/HOLMES SIDECAR TROPHY HEAD UP A HUGE WEEKEND!

SA WOMEN’S CUP & DIENER/HOLMES SIDECAR TROPHY HEAD UP A HUGE WEEKEND!

The first event in SA motorcycling history to have the girls and women headline the event, the Rockhopping SA 2021 SA Women’s Cup & Diener/Holmes Sidecar Trophy for Trial, hosted by the Keyneton MCC headline a huge weekend of action, across many disciplines of the sport.

Being run on Long Gully Road at Angaston from 9.00am Sunday, this event also features free entry for spectators, who will be able to wander around between the sections and watch some of SA’s awesome trials talent.

Leading the way is current Australia #2 (2019) in Open Women and Junior Women U13, Lillie Yiatrou and Charlotte Cowan, with Lillie also a 2 time Australian representative, and the reigning MSA Rising Star. Also in the field is 2018 Australian U13 Champion, Alisha Harry and Under 11 #1 from 2019, Ashley Barwick, again showing how much SA leads the country in Junior Women.

And due to the nature of Trial, and only 1 bike on the course (section) at one time, juniors can compete in senior classes in direct competition, with the Sport Women (formally C Grade) Class being made up of all junior riders, Charlotte, Alisha and Hayley Stephen.

At the other end of the field, look for the Long sisters, Chelsea & Cadance, both riding in Junior B Girls in their first SA Women’s Cup in 2021, and with dad, Aaron, and grandfather, David, also in the field, it shows that Trial is very much a family affair!

The Diener/Holmes Sidecar Trophy will also feature a number of female passengers, led by 2016 Australian Champion, Melissa Rogers, onboard with Steve Rees, the very team that won the Australian Championship in 2016. Look out also for the husband & wife team of Adrian & Tanya Harry, and the father & daughter team of Greg & Anna Rogers (who are having their first ride together).

There will also be a full field of support classes in action, led by Trial 1 riders, and Australian Champions, Connor Hogan (and Trial2 World Championship competitor & multi time Australian representative) and Haydon Barwick, along with juniors Hayden Eardley (2018 U13 Australian Champion) and Carl Henschke taking it on in the senior classes, and a heap of junior riders in action as well – there will be something for everyone to watch!

Although there is free entry for spectators, there is no catering for this event, so bring a picnic lunch and sit under one of the many gum trees to watch the action.

The event will also be preceded by a Come & Try Day on the Saturday – at the same venue – from 10.00am to 4.00pm, mainly for the girls and women, but open to all.

ALSO ON – MOTOCROSS, SIDECAR-CROSS, ENDURO, ROAD RACE, ACUSA PARK, RIDE PARKS – IT’S ALL HAPPENING

Also on this weekend there are a number of Clubs around the state that have gates open – check out the list below, but a couple of highlights are;

  • The opening round of the ASA Sidecar-cross & Quads Series at Murray Bridge, and,
  • The opening round of Mud N Tars Club Series, which also features the Slur feature race, a 30 minute moto – with the Parawa Track looking awesome for this weekend’s event.

Entries for both of these events, and many others, are still open, so get around it and get out and support the clubs doing the hard yards preparing their venues – see the pics below of the awesome track prep at Parawa!!

For those who like sliding their knees around corners – head out to Mallala this Sunday for another great Ride Day – and you never know, you may like it so much, that a competition license becomes you and you get racing!

WHO TO WATCH OUT FOR

The 2021 Championship will once again feature most of the usual suspects from the last few years, but with a few new combatants that have just arrived out of juniors, so the action on the track should make for some great spectating through the year!

Riley Graham will once again be back to defend his #1 plate from 2020, with the likes of Cooper Sheidow, Jayden Rudd, Sean Throup and Luke Bunnik once again trying to knock him off the top step of the podium, but this year add into the mix the likes of 2020 juniors, Alex Krieg, Carl Nitschke, Alex Head, Chad Sparrow and, 2020 Junior Rider of the Year, Royden Harrold, who will all be out to mix it with the established guns!

In the senior age classes, again watch out for the ever improving Rowan Pumpa and Peter Rudd to perhaps dominate their classes, especially if their early AORC form is anything to go by, as both are right in the mix for National honours in 2021, while Chloe Barton will once again lead a strong field of women into battle, and if her AORC form is anything to go by, she may be hard to beat in 2021!

But, it might just be the junior classes will be the ones to watch in 2021, as the Rising Stars, or Tomorrow’s Champions, show just what talent SA has at the present time, so get around these fantastic kids and watch them in action at all of the rounds!

The Gear brothers have set the AORC radar to ‘alert’ after round 1, with Ollie leading the J2 Class after going 2 from 2 at round 1 to lead the Championship, with older brother Davey in a podium position on day 1 in J3, before a crash put him out for the weekend, so he will be itching to bounce back from that – and will also have Thomas Lambert and Wil Carpenter to deal with on the track!

Also keep an eye out for the J3 guns from 2020, Clay Burnett, Seth Carpenter, Oliver Pitchford and Max Midwinter (currently 7th in J4 at the AORC), as they look to try and grab the #1 plate for juniors here in SA in 2021.

The Junior Women’s Class is also on offer for 2021, with Emily Lambert and SAMX gun, Emma Haylock, keen to get some rounds in, and with some quality competition, so the challenge is there to all of the SA Motocross & Enduro girls – get those entries in and get around the 2021 Championship.

SO, it’s time to fire up – round 1 entries are open and Coonalpyn is only a short month away – and one of the best things about the 2021 Championship; no rounds will require registered or permitted bikes – SO – motorcycles in motocross trim will be allowed!
