COMPETITION – IT’S SLOWLY GETTING BACK UP TO SPEED!

In the past couple of weeks, competition has slowly started to get back into gear – and over the next couple of weekends it starts to heat up even more!

It all kicked off with a round of the Tri-Series Enduro on July 5th near Brownlow, with 93 total entries braving the extremely dry conditions (it is winter, right?) at the Keyneton MCC event, with the general chat being, we don’t care if it’s dry, we are just glad to be back racing!

Young gun, Nathan Howe, showed the senior field how to ride in the dust, with a 6 minute win over the returning Nick Throup after 2 ½ hours of chewing dust!

A week later, the Keyneton MCC went back to back when they kicked off the 2020 Trials SA season with their Keyneton 2 Day Trial, run as the 47th Mountain Man Trial on Saturday and the Rockhopping SA 2020 SA Women’s Cup & Diener/Holmes Sidecar Trophy on the Sunday, with 41 total entries received – a bit down, but the Women’s Cup did miss its annual influx of riders from the east due to border restrictions!

Big winners there were Lillie Yiatrou in the SA Women’s Cup and Chris Schultz & Stuart Gerhardy in the Diener/Holmes.

This weekend it heats up even more – with rounds 1 & 2 of the 2020 South Australian Off Road Championship to take place around the township of Clare, with the senior Championship being supported by WSB Distributors and the junior Championship supported by Husqvarna and KTM.

To be held on property owned by the Mitchell family (with thanks) at Farrell Flat, the Clare MCC will run Saturday as a Cross Country, while Sunday will run as a Sprint for the 175 strong field

In the 175 entries, 67 are junior riders, spread over 5 classes for riders aged 8 years to 16 years, with some of South Australia’s brightest future stars to be in action – seriously worth the trip to Clare just to watch them.

In the seniors, defending SA#1, Riley Graham will have a gaggle of Youth (under 21) riders chasing him and his #1 plate, including the likes of Nathan Howe, Jayden Rudd, Charlie Milton, Jordan Simpson, Jaxon Raynor, Jay Simister and Max Price, along with the ‘old stagers’ like Sean & Nick Throup and Olly Simpson – so it’s a safe bet that the action on the track will be hot to trot!

Kick off both days from 8.00am, with catering also available each day, and free entry for spectators!

Over in the Wild Wild West this weekend (Sunday) will also be a round of the EP Series for Motocross, this time at the Kimba Motocross Track. Canteen available and camping allowed at the track.

It has been a while since there has been racing at Kimba and they are looking forward to having a good roll up of the motocross crew at Kimba – entries are still open through Ridernet!

While talking motocross, the Morgan MCC kick back into gear this weekend (Sunday) with their first Club round for the year – juniors, seniors, canteen and free entry for spectators!

AND – IT ONLY GETS HOTTER THE WEEK AFTER TO END JULY!

The final weekend of July 2020 is shaping up to be just as busy as this weekend will be, with the action to be just as hot!

Kicking off on Saturday 25th will be one of only three reliability trials for 2020 – the Keyneton MCC’s 60th Annual Road Trial, starting from the Keyneton Park (oval) at 9.00am. First run in 1961, the event is now known as the Mike Connors Reliability Trial, with an entry list for 2020 already nudging 150 starters!

Free entry for spectators and fully catered ALL DAY at Keyneton Oval by the Keyneton Progress Association, this will, arguably, be one of the events of the year – and the KMCC’s 3rd event in 4 weeks!

Also on the weekend of July 25 & 26 will be the opening round of the three round 2020 South Australian Motocross Championships, to be run by the Riverland JMC at their Renmark track.

Juniors on Saturday and Seniors on Sunday, with entries still open until Tuesday July 21st for the Championship opener for MX – enter through your Ridernet profile – and with only three rounds, as a rider, you won’t want to miss a round.

TROY Series SA 2020 round 2 (for Trial) will also run, on Sunday 26th, at Tungkillo with the Gawler MCC’s Max Graetz Trial, kicking off from 9.00am – with entries open until Thursday 23rd of July – through your Ridernet profile.

Riders aged 4 to +74 will be in action, including Australian representatives, Connor Hogan and Lillie Yiatrou, with free entry for spectators.

Also on next weekend will be a couple of ride days on Sunday for those not looking to race, but still want to throw a leg over.

Mac Park at Mount Gambier will host a track day for road racing, hosted by the Mt Gambier MCC, while ACUSA Park in the Adelaide Hills will have their 2nd Ride Day for 2020 from 10.00am.

Info for all of these events, and more, are available on the MSA website – check out the calendar and supp regs pages, as well as the ACUSA Park page as well!

All who attend these events are reminded that SOCIAL DISTANCING still applies – now 1 metre apart and 2 square metres around – so no grouping together – and remember to especially keep that bike length apart when is ques for food and drinks at events!

MA’S LICENCE REACTIVATION TIMELINE & OPEN EVENT ENTRIES REACTIVATED!

June 15, 2020 Filed Under: Enduro, Motocross, News, Reliability, SAMX Championship, State Championship, Trials

MA’S LICENCE REACTIVATION TIMELINE

Dear Members,

With the May 24 announcement of Sport Australia’s Return to Sport Toolkit, Motorcycling Australia (MA) have outlined the following timeline for the reactivation of licence sales and a return to competitive activity.

  • June 15, 2020 – License sales will be reactivated to renew or apply for your license;
  • July 1, 2020 – Competition activity may resume on a state by state basis in compliance with state and national guidelines and regulations.

Considering the pandemic and the impact that it has had on the restriction of sporting activities, MA in consultation with the State Controlling Bodies (SCBs) is pleased to confirm an extension of active annual licenses for members affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. All annual licenses purchased in the period between April 1, 2019 to March 31, 2020 will automatically receive a 3 month extension.

MA has considered numerous options to support annual license holders and believes this is the fairest outcome. Extensions for eligible licenses will added automatically prior to the reactivation of license sales on June 15.

We recommend members download the MA license app which will update with your license extension automatically.

OPEN EVENT ENTRIES HAVE ALSO BEEN REACTIVATED!

2020 SA MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP DATES HAVE BEEN RESCHEDULED – AND NOW RELEASED!

Coming out of the COVID-19 lockdown the 2020 SA Motocross Championship dates and venues have now been confirmed, with it now being a 3 round Series for 2020, which in itself is a great thing to have only lost 1 round due to the pandemic!

The 2020 SA Motocross Championship will now be made up of the following rounds;

Round 1               July 25th & 26th                   Remark                 Riverland JMC

Round 2               August 8th & 9th                 Monarto              South Coast MXC

Round 3               August 29th & 30th             Gillman                 Motocross Riders Assoc.

As in previous years, juniors will race on Saturday, with seniors on Sunday, and classes and race formats to be released in the coming days, with round 1 entries to open before the end of June.

With the AJMX now proposed to be running in the school holidays in September, it made it almost impossible to stay with the original dates.

#WHATSONWEDNESDAY THE ACTION FOR THIS WEEKEND, March 7 – 9

This weekend sees 4 great events to sink your teeth into, covering 2 disciplines of our sport and 2 of them are extra special as they remember a great figure in the sport who passed way too early – so it will be yet another great weekend’s spectating on offer!

The 2 big events for this weekend are the 2020 Bob White SA Junior Sidecar Championship on Friday, and then the Bob White Cup on Saturday for speedway sidecars!

On Sunday there will be the first of the ‘Women’s Days’ for 2020 with the Women’s Only Come & Try / Practise Day at South Coast’s track at Monarto, and with 30+ taking part last year, it’s hoped to break through the 50 rider barrier this year – get around it!

And also on Sunday there is the Morgan MCC’s 2nd Club Day of the year as well – so another busy weekend ahead!

Nothing like a blast from the past to help promote the future racing at a Friday night speedway meeting!

FRIDAY MARCH 6TH @ SIDEWINDERS SPEEDWAY.

Bob White 2020 South Australian Junior Sidecar Championship

Friday night is Speedway Night at Sidewinders on March 6th, with the running of the prestigious Bob White 2020 SA Junior Sidecar Championship.

Can Jake Treloar/Isaac Mitchell make it two in row, or will we see a new Champ on top of the podium??

Jackson Milner/Adam Niesche are well favoured after taking out the NSW Championship but there is no doubt we are all in for a very entertaining night of racing from the very best junior sidecars in Australia.

No matter which combination takes out the Championship, we know every sidecar team will put their skills to best use, and there will be close racing throughout the night.

The sidecars are supported by the Solo and Novice Solo riders, who will also bring some excitement to the track.

Thanks to our sponsors of this Meeting, without whom we couldn’t run the event.

LAURIE FOX MEMORIAL SA SIDECAR CHAMPIONSHIP & CLASSIC MASTER OF MAC PARK

March 2, 2020 Filed Under: News, Road Racing, State Championship

Winners are grinners, and there were no shortage of grinners at Mac Park over the weekend.

Around 100 historic bikes and 30 sidecars battled it out on track over the weekend at Mount Gambier, a weekend of perfect weather, large crowds, plenty of food and drinks and a great atmosphere all round.

As always, a huge thanks to all the volunteers who work tirelessly to make such great events happen – you know who you are, and your work is appreciated!

All those that won a race, entered a race, watched a race, or in some way helped make the races happen (including the awesome kitchen staff/brekky crew/office admin/gate/everyone else…) deserve their grins, but there were some extra special grinners…

The Isle of Man TT raffle was drawn at 4.00pm Sunday, and Charlie Adams, is the lucky person off the the Isle of Man in September; Peter McDonough is $1000.00 richer and John Cummings is $500 richer, with thanks to all who bought tickets.

Many thanks to the City of Mount Gambier Mayor Lynette Martin who came, drew the raffle and acted as official. The council is an important supporter of the club and it’s great to be recognised for the contribution we make to the region. But at the end of the day, the real winners/grinners were those that bought a ticket, didn’t win, but supported such an awesome and unique place.

Full results of the weekend can be found here; http://www.computime.com.au/meetings/index?MeetID=2020/CLAS_MMP_20/

And the kid on the swing? Smiles for all at Mac Park, that’s for sure!

And after a Classic weekend, what better way to sign off than with a classic Mac Park pic!

VICTORIA’S RILEY PLUM TAKES OUT THE SA JUNIOR SOLO SPEEDWAY CHAMPIONSHIP

December 19, 2019 Filed Under: News, Speedway, State Championship

Victoria’s Riley Plum takes out the SA Junior Solo Speedway Championship

Sidewinders Under 16 Speedway Club Inc hosted the South Australian Championship meeting last Saturday night, the 14th of December under cool but clear skies.

Originally they had 12 riders so the 13 rider race format was used, with one gap, however Lucius Payne and Jake Fleet scratched from the meeting during the week to bring it back to an 11 rider field to decide the Championship.

The format didn’t change however, and they stuck with the 13 rider format because it was the only fair way to do it for all riders.

It was Riley Plum’s second visit to the Sidewinders track at Wingfield, and the last time he was here he won the ANZAC Meeting, so he is now striking at 100% as he took out the final after being the top pointscorer in the heats.

Riley led home 2019 MSA Rising Star nominee, Ashley Jansen-Batchelor in the final, with Harry Sadler 3rd and Riley McCarthy rounding out the top 4 who made the final.

Looking down the field just a bit, there were also some encouraging performances, like;

Noah Grabham had his first Sidewinders experience and did very well in making the semi-final, and,

Allegra Laanekorb, who only joined the race class at the second meeting of the season, this was her 5th meeting, and scored a 2nd and two 3rd’s from her four heat rides.

At the other end though, a shout out must go to Lewis Monaghan, who, try as he might, had a night from hell, but no doubt will bounce back next time out.

It was a good night’s racing, with a very good crowd, and no major incidents.

Semi Final; 43.58 seconds

  1. R)   Harry Sadler   1st
  2. B)   Noah Grabham    2nd
  3. W)  Nicholas Possingham   3rd
  4. Y)   Travis Clarke    4th

Solo Final; 43.15 seconds

  1. R)   Riley Plum    1st
  2. W)  Ashley Jansen-Batchelor   2nd
  3. Y)   Harry Sadler    3rd
  4. B)   Riley McCarthy   4th

Sidewinders would like to thank and highlight;

Thank you to Monaghan Logistics for their support of the 2019 SA Junior Solo Championship, and to Tony & Karen from Mongrel Motorsport Accessories for their prizes for the riders.Congratulations to all riders who took part tonight, particularly those who traveled long distances to be there.

A few tears were shed on the night as we gave our “Gentle Giant” Nicholas Possingham a well-deserved send off on his final night of junior racing. We thank Nicholas for the great work he has done during his time at the club, and wish him the very best for his senior career.

And a huge thanks to David & Jack from PACC for the great shots from the SA Solo Title – photo credits to them indeed!!
