CONSISTENT RESULTS LAND WILL PRICE ON SAORC PODIUM FOR 2019

September 13, 2019 Filed Under: News

FROM WILL HIMSELF;

The Great Finale of the 2019 South Australian Off-Road Championship hit the unbeatable sandy terrain of Coonalpyn to close a successful 2019 series. Rounds 6&7 took place on 30th August and 1st September as the event was run in conjunction with rounds 8&9 of the AORC. A staggering field of over 200 competitors tackled the 2 day sprint format amongst the flowing sandy tracks. Following on from his successful 2019 SAORC season campaign so far, Kessner KTM Off-Road Team member Will Price sat a comfortable 3rd in the championship hunt coming into the final rounds. His consistency so far this season with a handful of 4th place finished has showcased his skill and ability as a result of his hard work and dedication to the sport.

Round 6 saw the senior Pro and Expert riders battle it out on a short 5km loop consisting of flowing, winding sand tracks amongst the shrubbery of the Coonalpyn property. The track was FAST, making racing exhilarating for both riders and spectators as they put it all on the line throughout their 10 sprint tests. Competition was fierce with reigning champ Andrew Wilksch and his main rival Riley Graham battling it out for top South Australian honours whilst young guns Will Price, Cooper Sheidow and Nathan Howe all gave it their best crack just shy of the heavy weights.

“Saturday I felt a little uncomfortable, the track was wide open and almost like a motocross circuit. It definitely didn’t suit my riding style as I prefer the more technical tracks however I gave it my best shot and still maintained consistent times throughout the day. It was pretty wild, and the track didn’t take long to become flogged out, but it made for good, enjoyable racing. I made a few small mistakes but the goal was just to finish in one piece and gather some healthy points heading into the final round.”

 Day 2, the Pro and Expert classes swapped to the junior track for the final round for 2019. After 6ml of rain overnight the competitors couldn’t have asked for better conditions as they tackled the motocross and malley shrub test. The track started in the pine forest winding its way through the sand as it reached spectator heaven on the epic motocross track before going full speed across the paddock into the malley trees. The test was much more diverse than the opening day, throwing everything at the riders from deep sand jumps to tight rocky sections and logs. Young Price took a steady start to the day however found his groove and placed some quick times against the high class national field.

“Today I was much happier with the track and my riding. I did make a small mistake on the first lap but put it behind me and just focused on the job, which was to finish the day in order to secure 3rd in the SAORC championship. There was definitely some wild moments today but it was great seeing so many spectators out on the track and I loved how the Gawler club used a great mix of terrain. It was a good track a definitely showed everyone’s strengths and weaknesses. Overall I was happy with the day and narrowly missed out on the podium by 4 seconds. But that’s how racing goes.”

Will, once again secured consistent results placing 4th Saturday and Sunday respectively to credit him 3rd Outright and in the Pro Class for the 2019 state championship. Throughout the season he has used his true grit and determination to battle through the highs and lows of the motorcycling sport and his commitment and passion shone through. It was a great end to the 2019 season as young Price retained his number 3 position for the second consecutive year.

“I was stoked Sunday afternoon to land on the podium again this season. It has been a long year and I couldn’t be more grateful to my family, friends and team who supports me and allows me to follow my passion. The series this year has been predominantly sand, making it challenging. It would be nice to see some diversity in terrain for 2020 and I am already looking forward to next season. I would like to give a special mention to my family for the countless hours of preparation and time that goes into my racing and also Scott Billing and Roger Kessner for their support, wisdom and guidance, giving me the best possible opportunity to succeed.”

Will would like to give a massive thank you to his friends, family, sponsors and everyone else who makes his racing possible.

DALLAS SKEER’S ASBK ROUND 5 WINTON RACE REPORT

September 13, 2019 Filed Under: News, Road Racing

2017 MSA Rising Star finalist, Dallas Skeer has sent through his latest report on season 2019 – here’s the lowdown!

Round 5 of ASBK at Winton Raceway in Victoria was a mixed weekend with some good results but also a gamble which didn’t pay off. With only three rounds of the ASBK championship left we needed to pull in some good points at Winton as I know the track and had confidence in my pace, the changing weather conditions did not help.

With no dry track time on Friday we were forced to go straight into qualifying. We did get two laps in when the track was wet just to get a feel for it. I usually enjoy the wet but not at Winton, because of the cars and that they just had a drift event the weekend before it was like riding on ice. I ran off coming into turn 1 because there was not enough grip for my slipper clutch to engage.

With only two 20 minute qualifying sessions on Saturday and the threat of rain we had to make the most of the first one in case it did rain later on in the day. The first few laps were just getting in the groove with the first dry track time we had all weekend. I then started pushing and was able to produce a lap time of 1min.26.279 which had me provisional 9th. My class was so close if I dropped 0.1 of a second I would move up 2 positions.

The second qualifying was dry just in time for my session and I knew I could improve on my time. Going out on the same tyres as the first session did make it a little harder as the tyres already had 15 laps on them. I was able to do take another 0.5 of a second off my time with a new PB of 1min.25.749.  I still remained 9th position on the grid as nearly everyone else went faster in the second session.

Sunday was a mixed day of racing and a lot of crashes due to the terrible track surface Winton has when there is only very light rain.

Race 1 saw me jump the start and I was right up the front in 5th thinking that I had to push so the ten second penalty doesn’t push me to far back in the field. Thankfully for me the race was red flagged on the first lap because of a big crash in turn 2 which involved a few riders. I narrowly avoided the incident and was able to restart with 12 laps to complete. I was a little more hesitant on the start line this time and didn’t get as good as start as I wanted. I knew because there was a four riders infront of that were out of the race I had a good chance at getting a good result. I was able to pull a gap on the rider behind me siting in 4th and put down some fast lap times trying to catch 3rd. I was having a lot of front slides and the rider ahead was too far gone to catch. On lap 10 I got passed by the rider that had caught up to me. I knew I had to beat him as I was 11 points behind him in the championship. We had a good fight for 4th place and on the last lap, second to last corner, he made a move but I got better drive into the last corner and got him back under brakes. Finishing in a strong 4th place was a good start to the racing. I got a new PB of 1min.25.201 and my best result in the 600  Supersport class yet.

Moving onto the final race of the day the weather was not looking good with the race before ours being cancelled due to rain. There was black clouds all around the track and I decided to go out on wet tyres. Unfortunately the rain that was expected did not arrive. I had to ride to finish the race on the wet tyres at a lot slower pace. It was a gamble that would have paid off with me and two other being the only ones on wets out of the 18 riders. Coming in at 13th was not what we planned after such a strong race 1. But we have learned some valuable information about what to do in a situation like that again.

The last race really pushed me back in the overall points finishing 8th for the round. With only 2 rounds now left in the championship it is going to make it difficult to move up from 7th in championship but we will try everything to gain as much points as possible. A massive thanks to everyone associated in our small team and making this possible. We now turn to Phillip Island in October where he have some serious testing to do so we can be really competitive.

With a huge thanks to my 2019 partners;

Here is an update from the Hutchy Racing Team – after day 2;

Hey all
Sorry been a lack of updates since the rally kicked off yesterday morning. Things have been fairly busy!
Day 1 was a total of 629k’s and about 10hrs in the saddle. Both teams made it back in one piece not without some mechanical issues. We had an oil transfer issue between the engine and gearbox oils which resulted in stopping mid stages to top up oil levels. We managed it ok during the day and it didn’t seem to get much worse. A busy evening prepping the bike and also some repairs on the Trtion as well!
Day 2 today was 552k’s. We battled with the same issue as yesterday but it was getting increasingly worse as the day went on. We thankfully got it home in one piece and got to work trying to fix the issue. After robbing some parts of our spare engine hopefully the problem is now solved and it will behave tomorrow. Another big day coming up – 750kms. Hit the road at 6.22am for a nice 170km transport stage to the first section.

EOI’s FOR SPORTS MANAGER POSITIONS NOW OPEN

September 6, 2019 Filed Under: All disciplines, News

Motorcycling SA is seeking nominations for the following Sports Manager’s positions;

  • Trial
  • Enduro
  • Dirt Track
  • Motocross
  • and the newly created position of ‘Classic Motocross & Classic Dirt Track’.

Sports Managers are Board appointed individuals who are chartered with the responsibility to assist the growth, development and operation of each discipline. In general they are assisted by a committee or advisory group.

The MSA Board is excited to announce the forming of the position of Classic Motocross & Classic Dirt Track Sports Manager, which has been formed due to such large numbers in, predominately motocross, meaning that it is too much for one Sports Manager and his/her team to properly look after the needs of both. The position is named as per Chapter 11 of the MoMS.

The term of contract for all Sports Managers will be 2 years.

The positions of Road Race, Reliability Trial, Speedway and Quads will be up for renewal in 12 months’ time.

The Sports Manager’s Guidelines and nomination form are attached.

Nominations will close on at 5.00pm Friday, October 5th 2019.

The next Sports Managers meeting will be at 7.00pm, Thursday, 5th of December at MSA Hall, where the above appointments will be made official for 2020/21.

ROUND 3 OF TROY Series SA 2019 – THIS SUNDAY @ MOCULTA

August 23, 2019 Filed Under: News, Trials

Round 3 of the TROY Series SA 2019 for Trial will be held this Sunday along the pipeline at Moculta, north east of Angaston and the Barossa Valley, run by the Keyneton MCC, with action kicking off around 9.30am.

With a number of riders absent this weekend due to riding the New South Wales Championships at Pacific Park, the spotlight will well and truly be on SA’s amazing junior talent – including some who have just been selected to represent SA at the 2019 Australian trial Championships in Tasmania.

This is the 46th running of the Keyneton MCC’s Mountain Man Trial, named so by Bob Petts after thinking Geoff ‘Wack’ Barratt was a ‘mountain of a man’, with this the KMCC’s 2nd longest running event after the Mike Connors Reliability Trial.

Spectators are free to wander among the sections as riders try and do the impossible in this unique discipline where speed is not a factor – and the ideal spot for new junior riders to learn bike control!

As always – Greg Knight from Rockhopping SA will be on hand with a number of bikes for sale!
