INTERNATIONAL UPDATE FROM 4 TALENTED SOUTH AUSSIES!

INTERNATIONAL UPDATE FROM 4 TALENTED SOUTH AUSSIES!

Connor Hogan at the Trial GP 2019 Japan
After qualifying well inside the top 15 for round 2 of the Trial2 World Championship, Connor Hogan had a tough weekend at Motegi in Japan;
“A tough weekend for me here in Japan, with nothing really going right. Very muddy and slippery conditions across the two days. My riding wasn’t great on Saturday but I felt much more comfortable Sunday. However, I simply did not have luck on my side, I had many 5’s due to unforeseen problems inside the sections. Ended up 28th two days in a row which is very frustrating. Thanks to Dad for filling in as minder for the weekend.”

Brian Anthony at the Sidecar-cross World Championship, Estonia
After scoring points in his first GP last weekend in France, this weekend was a bit tougher for Brian Anthony in Estonia;
“Kivioli GP was a tough one, in the qualification race I tweaked my leg/knee, which got was sore and I had a dead leg so struggled quite a lot with it.
Race one; we had a pretty good start from second row but got hit by another bike in the back which was no problem, but then in the next right turn we came together again, causing us to crash and Joe hit his hand on a post, but we kept on but with no googles and long way back, but in the end we decided to pull in to the pits to save ourselves for race 2.
In race 2 we had a good start again, but I had a lot of trouble with the leg/knee, I knew what I needed to do but had no power in my leg at all giving us bad stability on the bike. Then, to top off a tough weekend, with only few laps to go the engine started cutting out after quarter throttle, so we had to pull out unfortunately.
No excuses, races don’t stop for things like this, but we/I take positives out of it, as I learnt lots and my physical condition felt OK except for the leg/knee. So, will work on sorting that and keep working to do what I feel I can do, its certainly not easy but I wouldn’t be here if it was, I’d have stayed at home. And I finally got to go to the Kivioli GP, one I’d wanted to go to for so long! Week off next week then come back stronger at next German championship.”

Liam May in Germany
“Unfortunately I had to pull out of last night’s meeting in Gustrow due to a serious crash in race 2 resulting in a head and shoulder injury, also have withdrawn from the meeting in Herning Monday.
Hopefully I’ll be fit for next week in Czech Republic and Poland.
Thank you to all the medics and people who helped out!”

Brayden McGuiness in Europe!
Brayden had a busy weekend travelling around the north of Europe, taking in multiple countries, with some mixed results.
Friday night in Germany 6 points finishing 9th, 1 point short of a semi birth, with the meeting having 2 semis as per the Speedway GP format
After driving through the night to get to his Saturday Night Division 1 Teams Meeting, it was, unfortunately, rained off
And to finish the weekend off, Sunday night he scored 9 points in an open meeting at in Herning, Denmark

3 SOUTH AUSSIES IN TOP 10 OF THE 2019 WOMEN’S AUSTRALIAN MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIPS

3 SOUTH AUSSIES IN TOP 10 OF THE 2019 WOMEN’S AUSTRALIAN MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIPS

With the 2019 Women’s Australian Motocross Championships now done & dusted, the final points table has now come to light – and 3 South Aussie girls finished in the top 10, with Amy Bartsch also grabbing a top 5 finish in 5th, followed by Steph Cutler in 7th and Charlotte Berrill in 9th.

All 3 were consistent in their results, with Steph the only rider to have a problem in any of the races, with a flat tyre during the Monarto round. Other than that, top 10 finishes were the order of the day!

And while the top 3 of Rutledge, Moore & Brown were just that bit far in front in all the races, 4th to 10th was a close affair in most, giving our SA girls a challenge to look forward to in future years!

From Amy; “Massive weekend at Manjimup in WA racing the final round of the Australian Women’s Nationals. Coming out of MB I was sitting tied in 7th and desperately wanted to improve on that position. Went out for practice on Friday and took every session to gel with the track, thankfully I got myself sorted for the first race on Saturday finishing 6th. Sunday I was better for me as I got my head around the track and how it would form going 6,5,5 and finishing up the series in 5th in Australia.
Now I can honestly say that Manjimup is hands down the best track I have ridden and I will definitely be heading back in the future!”

From Steph; “Manjimup 15,000 is an event I have always wanted to ride and I finally got to cross it off my bucket list. And it sure as hell didn’t disappoint. Probably the most fun I’ve had on my bike, even when I was struggling I was still smiling. Started the 3rd round of the Women’s Championship in 11th. Went 5, 7, 6, 6 for the weekend and finished 7th in the Championship overall. Pretty stoked on the results after coming off a whole year not riding and lack of fitness.”

From Charlotte; “Overall final results for the Australian Women’s Championship 2019 published today – 9th overall in Australia!! My aim was to manage a better finish than my 24th finish last year and it’s a definite improvement! Thank you so much to everyone who makes this racing dream possible for me.”

With 2 rounds on home soil at Monarto (Murray Bridge) followed by the 3rd and final round at the famous Manjimup track in WA, it made for a long trek across the Nullabor for all of the riders, and especially those from the Eastern states.

Huge congratulations to all of the MX women for making the commitment to ride the 2109 Championship, which had a total of 25 women ride at least one of the rounds, so great numbers going forward.

With thanks to JF Photography for the photos from Manjimup – awesome!

80+ SOUTH AUSSIES TO TACKLE FINKE THIS WEEKEND!

June 3, 2019 Filed Under: Enduro, Motocross, News, Reliability

Over 80 South Australian riders, including a couple expat Croweaters, on 2 & 4 wheels will tackle one of Australia’s most iconic events, the Finke Desert Race, starting & finishing this weekend in Alice Springs.

For those who don’t know what ‘Finke’ is;
The Tatts Finke Desert Race is an off road, multi terrain two-day race for bikes, cars, buggies and quads through desert country from Alice Springs to the small Aputula (Finke) community. The race is held each year on the Queen’s Birthday long weekend in June.

“Finke” as it is commonly known, is one of the biggest annual sporting events in the Northern Territory and has the reputation of being one of the most difficult offroad courses in one of the most remote places in the world. Finke is unique and the most fun you can have with a helmet on!

The above is straight off their website – and says it all in a nutshell really!
For all of the information – including the rider list – so you can see who from SA is having a crack – head to; www.finkedesertrace.com.au

Their website also includes all the details for spectators and where you can and can’t go, or camp along the track, as well as what is happening in and around Alice Springs during the week long event.

Leading the SA Charge will be Kent Collins (#4) and Daniel Banks (#13), with Kent keen to get onto the podium after finishing 4th outright last year, with Dan keen to crack the top 10 after finishing 13th in 2018!

Good luck to all of our South Australian contingent in the ‘Red Centre’ this weekend
