WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS FOR BRIAN ANTHONY!

June 3, 2019 Filed Under: Motocross, News

Overnight in France, Brian Anthony ticked off 2 huge items on his personal bucket list when, after sneaking in as the final qualifier for the French Grand Prix of the Sidecarcross World Championship, heat 2 saw Brian, and his German Rider, Joachim Reimann, (bike #24) finish a solid 17th, which scored them 4 World Championship points – and all in his first World Championship ride!

Having only been in Europe for almost 2 weeks, and with a ride last weekend in the German Championship, which saw Brian suffer a few physical problems – possibly the result of jet lag – this weekend’s round of the World Championship was held in warm & sunny conditions at Plomion in the North East region of France, not far from the Belgium border.

A course of fast up and downhills, with big drop off and jumps waited for the riders, of which there was over 40 entries, of which 32 would qualify to race the round. Joachim & Brian just managed to sneak in as the 6th and final team through the repecharge – so bucket list item #1 ticked – qualified to ride a GP for the first time!

Race 1 saw the team well inside the top 20 until lap 10 (or 2/3 distance) when their bike lost all braking and they were forced to retire, being credited with a 24th place finish and out of the points!

Race 2 however, saw the team start well and hold a place within the bottom half of the top 20 for most of the race and held that right up until the end when they crossed the line in 17th, which gave the team 4 Championship points – so bucket list item #2 ticked – and a 20th place finish overall for the event.

Huge congratulations to Brian – to get that first Grand Prix under his belt, and come through with such a pleasing result bodes well for the rest of the Championship – stay tuned for updates in the following weeks!

SA’S MOTOCROSS WOMEN ROCK ROUND 1 IN THE RIVERLAND

May 13, 2019 Filed Under: Motocross, News, SAMX Championship

SA’S MOTOCROSS WOMEN ROCK ROUND 1 IN THE RIVERLAND

South Australia’s motocross girls & women put on a great show at round 1 of the Eagle Trailers & Campers 2019 SA Motocross Championships, held at the Renmark track, which was well prepared by the hard working members of the Riverland JMC.

15 girls & women competed at round 1, with the 2018 Women’s Champion, Amy Bartsch, taking up where she left off from last year by blitzing all 3 heats to lead home first year senior, Chloe Barton, with Teagan Hartwig winning the battle for the final spot on the podium from Tarja Morris.

In the juniors Emma Haylock rocketed out of the gates to lead the field away, but a crash in heat 1 left her behind the pack for the rest of the day, and even though she won heats 2 & 3, she has some work to do to catch Championship leader, Dakota Collins, who holds a 7 point lead over Ava Faulkhead, with Janis Richter holing 3rd after round 1.

1st & 2nd in Open Women after round 1, Amy Bartsch & Chloe Barton (above left), while Koby Kitchen (595) holeshots in one of her heats.

With a huge thanks to Butler’s Mechanical Services and Titanium Security Australia for partnering the Open Women & Junior Girls classes, here’s what a few of the girls thought after round 1, with round 2 to be held at Andy Caldecott Park at Keith on June 15 & 16!

AMY BARTSCH

Good say racing the SA state titles at Renmark. Couldn’t have gotten a better result in the women’s class going 1-1-1.
Thanks to everyone for the help and support.
Stratco, SK Designs Australia, Hoey Racing, NOW Construction & Property Maintenance

EMMA HAYLOCK

Had an okay day at Renmark today. Managed to get the hole shot in all three Moto’s which helped me a lot.

Race 1:
Had a good start but unfortunately I tucked the front in the first lap and came down hard and was unable to finish the race. End up with DNF

Race 2:
Had a great race battling with Dakota for most of the race. Both of us made some silly mistakes but was nice to get my first win.

Race 3:
Managed to get another good start and rode my own race. Had one moment a couple of corners from the finish line with a big tank slap but I was very lucky to save it. Came away with my second win for the day.
Due to my DNF in race one I finished off the day at the back points wise but enjoyed finishing the day off on a high.

A massive thank you to Ian and Tracy Butler for getting behind me this season and allowing me to join the BMS Racing team. I am over the moon and I will try my hardest to get good results for you guys.

BMS Racing, Moto Adelaide, Titanium Security Australia Pty Ltd, GAS Imports Pty Ltd

AIMEE BUTLER

Round 1 of the SA titles done! Didn’t ride as well as I know I should’ve, unfortunately making too many mistakes and horrible starts.
Massive thanks to Tracy & Ian Butler, Rylee Berry, Chloe Barton, Dale Barton & Jaxon Raynor, and to all my sponsors;
BMS Racing, Butlers Mechanical Service, Moto Adelaide, D&G Tyres
Wakefield Trucks, Ride Tribe, Castrol, Shock Treatment, Pirie Signs & Design, Go Girl Racing Australia, Mayhem Fitness

CHLOE BARTON

A very mixed day at Renmark for RND1 of the state titles.
Raced both woman’s and MX2 clubman
In the clubman (which was only for track time) I got 5,5,17, in race 2 I was leading with a 10-15 sec lead when I made a stupid mistake and tucked the front end then picked it up and couldn’t touch the ground so dropped it again, managed to hold onto 5th in that race, in the final MX2 another bad start worked my way back into 4th and was making a pass for 3rd when I high sided the bike in a fast section hitting the ground hard and winding myself, managed to get back up and finish the race.
Happy to be coming away in 8th position overall in MX2.
In the woman’s class I went 2, 2, 2 for 2nd overall, in the final woman’s race I literally just done what I had to do to hold onto 2nd place.
Have to say a massive thank you to everyone who came and checked up on me and made sure I was ok.
Big thanks to my sponsors;

BMS Racing, Butlers Mechanical Service, Castrol, Titanium Security Australia Pty Ltd, Painttech, Performance Moto, Get Displays, Emar Seats, Utilities Construction and a big thanks to Moto Adelaide for helping me out getting a new tyre fitted ready for the race.

KOBY KITCHEN

Day 1 of SA State Titles at Riverland Junior Motorcycle Club (RJMC) rode the 85cc class – had a few issues to work through, happy to finish the day with 20th overall.

Looking forward to tomorrow riding the Junior 250cc class.

Day 2 of SA State Titles at Riverland Junior Motorcycle Club (RJMC)
Today was always going to be hard a day, first time competing at states on the 250cc riding against best in the SA.
Track was rough & gnarly, due to having the seniors tear up the track, but glad to get through the day in one piece.
Thanks to my family, friends and sponsors for all their support;

Motorcyclists First Aid, Bridgeland Motorcycles, Brisk, Ride Tribe, FXR, Flow Vision Company, Emar seats, Hittin’ the Street, Hold It On Designs, PlusPrinting

Thanks to the riders for their pics – and watch out Thursday for a run down on how the guys went at round 1!

EAGLE TRAILERS & CAMPERS 2019 SA MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIPS TO LAUNCH OUT THE GATE THIS WEEKEND AT RENMARK!

May 10, 2019 Filed Under: Motocross, News, SAMX Championship, State Championship

EAGLE TRAILERS & CAMPERS 2019 SA MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIPS TO LAUNCH OUT THE GATE THIS WEEKEND AT RENMARK!

After whetting the appetite with the EP Series and the King of the Gulf meetings, this weekend sees round 1 of the 2019 SA Motocross Championships, partnered again by the brilliant crew from Eagle Trailers & Campers, with support from Butler’s Mechanical Services and Titanium Security Arena.

As in 2018, the Riverland JMC is hosting round 1 at their Renmark venue, which is located on the Sturt Highway at Renmark (Be aware turning off the highway it is in a 110kmh zone, so please take care!).

Almost 230 entries have been received for the opening round, and looking through the entry list, it is very much the cream of the crop when it comes to motocross in South Australia, so heading to Renmark will be a great way to see some fantastic racing across all classes, junior and senior.

One rider to watch this weekend will be SA’s outstanding junior rider, Alex Larwood (pictured below), current double Australian Champion and recently selected Australian team member to the 2019 World Junior Motocross Championships to be held in Russia later this year.

Being a 2 day event, with juniors on Saturday and seniors on Sunday (as well as Junior 250cc), camping is permitted at the venue with showers available (with a small donation that can be paid at the canteen).

Speaking of the canteen – hot and cold food and drinks will be available all weekend, with some prime viewing spots for all.

Admission for spectators is also aimed at being family friendly;

Saturday;   Adults $5.00       Juniors $2.00

Sunday       Adults $10.00     Juniors $5.00

Gates open at 6.00am both days with practice starting from 8.00am

Event programmes also available – get yours to follow the action!

Not a bad view of the great venue that opens the 2019 SA Motocross Championships, and just a few of the super talented female MX stars SA boasts at the moment (from left) Aimee Butler, Steph Cutler, Tarja Morris & Emma Haylock, along with Emma’s dad, Ian.

The junior action on Saturday will be full on, and worth getting to Renmark to watch the outstanding future of the sport here in SA!

SA’S BEST TO TAKE THE TEST AT MONARTO FOR THIS WEEKEND’S MX NATIONALS ROUND

May 2, 2019 Filed Under: Motocross, News, SAMX Championship

SA’S BEST TO TAKE THE TEST AT MONARTO FOR THIS WEEKEND’S MX NATIONALS ROUND

10 of South Australia’s best motocross riders will take on the best from around the country this weekend at Monarto for rounds 4 & 5 of the 2019 Pirelli MX Nationals, which also features rounds 1 & 2 of the YMF Women’s Championship.

The charge will be led in the Thor MX1 450 Class by factory Yamaha rider, Kirk Gibbs, who is now Queensland based and riding for the CDR Yamaha Monster Energy Team, with the current MX des Nations team rider looking to do well in front of his home crowd and family & friends.

At the moment Kirk is 3rd in the standings, only 7 points off of Haydon Mellross in the Championship lead and 5 points behind Luke Clout on the middle step of the podium, so it’s probably a guarantee that the racing is going to be full on this weekend!

Also looking to do well in the premier class of Australian MX will be the former international rider (AMA America), and one of SA’s all-time greats, Brett Metcalfe, who will be riding for the  Penrite Factory Honda Racing Team, along with one of SA’s premier coaches in Daniel Banks (Banks MX Coaching powered by KTM), along with 2018 King of the Gulf Mitch Norris (Hoey Suspension) and Izak Maule (Honda, SPMX, Pirelli, Fly Racing, SK Designs, M2R Helmets, Scott).

In the Pirelli MX2 Class, Jordan Waters (OatesMX, Yamaha, Thor, Spy, Maxima) will be the lone South Aussie in a hot class being led at the moment by the reigning Champion, Wilson Todd, with Jay Wilson & Aaron tanti already looking to be, perhaps, fighting over 2nd in the Championship!

In the Motul MXD Under 19’s Class, and like Jordan, Keith’s Jaxon Raynor (Keith Sand & Metal, Bridgeland Motorcycles, Performance Moto, Oakley) will be flying the SA flag on his own as he takes on the cream of Australia’s under 19 motocross stars!

The class is being led by Regan Duffy who has a slight 5 point lead over Rhys Budd with Maximus Purvis within striking distance in 3rd.

Kicking off this weekend will also be the YMF Australian Women’s Championship, with the SA trio of, newly crowned SA Women’s Cup Champion, Steph Cutler (Northern Motorcycles, SK Designs, BMS Racing), 2018 SA#1 Amy Bartch (Hoey Racing, Stratco, NOW Construction & Property Maintenance) and Charlotte Berrill (Bridgeland Motorcycles, RapidMX, Flow Vision Company, Funnelweb Filters) leading the home town charge.

All will be chasing the girl they call ‘Mad Meg’, Meghan Rutledge (Kawasaki Australia, Fox, Hitachi Power Tools Australia), with all eyes on Rutledge as she looks to continue the form she has so far shown in 2019, which included the opening round of the Women’s World MX Championship.

About the venue & the weekend’s action;

GATES OPEN: 7.30am
RIDING STARTS AT: 8.00am

Murray Bridge has been on the MX Nationals Calendar for many years now and for good reason – It’s highly regarded as being one of the best circuits in Australia. The flowing turns and red sand allow riders to be very aggressive and carry lots of corner speed. The massive roller section at the back of the circuit is one of the major keys to the race proving to be very technical, it’s also a fan favourite.

This year is a double header so get excited; you’ll be able to have double the fun with double the action.  You will need to buy your tickets at the gate, but the prices won’t break the bank! So, get down trackside to witness the top riders in Australia.

1-Day Pass – $30.00 for Adults, $20.00 for kids (6-15 years), Family Pass is $70.00

2-Day Pass – $50.00 for Adults, $30.00 for Kids (6-15 years), Family Pass $100.00

STEPH CUTLER WINS 6TH SA WOMEN’S CUP FOR MOTOCROSS!

April 24, 2019 Filed Under: Motocross, News

STEPH CUTLER WINS 6TH SA WOMEN’S CUP FOR MOTOCROSS!

SA Women’s Motocross ‘legend’, Steph Cutler added to her already impressive resume by winning the Hallett Concrete 2019 SA Women’s Cup over Easter at Port Pirie, winning 3 of the 4 heats to claim her 6th win in this event.

Held as part of the Port Pirie MCC’s annual ‘King of the Gulf’ event over the Easter weekend Cutler managed to keep the hard charging Amy Bartch at bay in 3 of the 4 heats, with Bartch winning the 2nd heat to keep her challenge alive right up to the final heat, making for some exciting racing for SA’s prestigious women’s MX event.

Unfortunately for Amy, the 2018 SA #1 in the SA MX Championship, this is the mirror image of the 2018 SA Women’s Cup, where she also finished runner-up to Steph in their long running rivalry in SA motocross events.

3rd and on the final step of the podium was the teenage Chloe Barton, an excellent result for the first year senior rider, to finish on the podium in her first senior event. Chloe was a model of consistency all event with 4 3rd placings to her name.

Kara Footner & Charlotte Berrill rounded out the top 5 mixing placings all event and just managing to keep Tarja Morris at bay.

SA Women’s Cup action about to get serious with Chloe Barton #28, Steph Cutler #24 & Tarja Morris #755 on the start line.

In the junior classes, there were some outstanding results by the SA girls!

In the ‘Prince of the Gulf’ event Aimee Butler was the lone girl and up against some of SA’s finest juniors Aimee came home with an awesome 9th, but such was the closeness of the competition, she was only 9 points of 5th in the overall, an outstanding effort that was noticed by many, and especially her starts where she was consistantly getting the holeshot!

Aimee also rode in the 125cc 13-16 years class and finished an excellent 5th overall over the 3 rounds of racing, and again getting a number of holeshots!

The ‘Master & the Student’, Steph Butler gives Aimee Butler some last second tips before the gate drops. Emma Haylock, who has started the 2019 season with a rush and has taken all before her so far!

Ride of the weekend though, according to many who were present, went to Emma Haylock, who rode in the 85cc 2 Stroke & 150cc 4 Stroke 12-16 Years class and finished 4th overall, which included an excellent podium finish in heat 2.

Such was Emma’s riding, she was only 1 point off an overall podium for the day in what has been an excellent start to the season by her.

Also in the class were the Collins sisters, Makayla & Dakota, who started off well until Makayla decided to part company with her bike in a big way, with her sister stopping to help. Luckily Makayla escaped with minor injuries and will be back on a bike soon.

Also having a ride were 2 newbies to the sport, Ava Sparrow and Ameila Gwiazda, who were riding in the 65cc 10-12 years Class, with them riding to 5th & 6th place respectively ovet the course of the event.

Well done to all and fantastic to see so many girls starting of the year so well in motocross.

A huge well done and thanks also to the Port Pirie MCC for continuing to support our SA Women in Motorcycling and in motocross in particular!

Now the girls will be all gearing up for round 1 of the ‘Eagle Campers & Trailers’ SA Motocross Championships to be held at Renmark on May 11 & 12, with the junior & senior classes for women and girls sponsored by Butler’s Mechanical Service and Titanium Security Australia.
